My Extension of Stay/Retirement Visa was due to expire on the 14th of this month, I let the period of seasoning in the bank run out hoping the Brexit situation would be sorted unfortunately it hasn’t.
My intention was too start again with a Non 0 Immigrant based on being in receipt of my UK State Pension at Hull which I got whilst in the UK. I went there on the 4th of December, they would only make the start date from then.
On arrival at Bangkok yesterday the IO appeared very confused because I had 2 Visas. She called a colleague over who took me too the side, no hassle really both were woman. I explained what my intentions were and she stamped everything and let me go saying I could have got the Non O in Thailand.
Hindsight is great but could I have got a Non O based on me being in receipt of my UK State Pension here ?

As the title suggests what is the criteria for the money in the Bank, Days or Months, 60 days/90 days or 2/3 full months ?
-
I have opened a Thai Bank Account which allows 2 withdrawals a month and 50 baht for further withdrawals.
Will the Account be ok to convert my Non O Immigrant Visa to an Extension of Stay after seasoning for 2 months ?

A bit surprised by this comment. Frequent solution to get interests at Kasikornbank is to put your 800k on a Fixed Deposit Interest account. But if you have no penalties, for sure you lost your interest if you remove money before term.
So, curious to know what type of account you are talking about...??
Search the forums like I did or google it to find a account that pays interest without penalties.

Even if thousand people on retirement visa walk into that bank, how is it going to affect your life? Nothing is going to happen to you. May be the said bank will open thousand accounts and it is going to benefit the banks.
Most retirees, I guess have at least one account, including me. But to give an impression that it is easy if you just walk around into all banks in one square mile area of Pattaya, you can open an account, even if you have a tourist visa is false. Tomorrow I am going to Kasiorn bank and check out how easy it is. May be they will open an account for me because I can show them I have a Bangkok bank account.I have a Bangkok Bank Account, I told my new bank verbally but they never asked me to provide any proof I had one.
I didn’t walk round Pattaya, I did research on the internet on a bank that provided an account suitable for my Extension which paid interest and I had access too with out losing the interest if I withdrew money.
BTW it wasn’t Kasikorn,

This person does not even say which country he is from. That makes ALL the difference. If he's a Yank , then he is a liar. If he is from any other country, I would tend to believe him.
I am from the U.K, I was asked to sign a form to ask if I was from the States but that was for tax purposes.

Wow. This forum is about helping each other and express our opinions - good or bad. It is not about collecting statistics (fake or real). Can you at least list the legwork you did? May be that's also a secret. You just opened an account in an unknown bank (in your dream?). The statement means nothing, otherwise.

No I won’t name the bank, I don’t want everyman and his dog going there asking to open an account possibly be refused and then say why did you open one for such and such person.
I read loads of stuff on Thai Visa, formulated the best way forward, had a walk round a few banks, get off your butt and do the same as I did.

Please post the bank name and branch location. And also various documents you had to provide. Your passport country. These thing should not be a secret sauce.
No chance I did all the legwork, sort it out yourself more so I have no idea who you are.

I can definitely relate. The idea that you can just walk into a bank and open an account if you are a foreigner is incredibly naive. I tried at three different banks after I had already opening a Direct Deposit account at Bangkok Bank. They ALL wanted "work permit". Telling them that I was retired and forbidden to work under the terms of my visa was not understood or accepted. What kind of strange system is this??
I opened a new Bank Account yesterday all they asked was I on a Retirement Visa and opened one in minutes here in Pattaya.

Some of the comments are funny.
Reminds me of a thread where people claimed you can walk into any bank in Bangkok and get an account with a passport only here on visa exempt.
It was always: I heard, my friend, I read blah blah. Not one person could provide an true accurate information as to where to get such an account.
I know some agents here also no one is going to do an extension that requires seasoning for 13k. Maybe for a friend of theirs if you have all your ducks in a row and bank or income documents already and just too lazy to do it yourself. But then add on the fees and multiple entries and you are at about 20k.
But if so; it is a well used, accepted and advertised service even on TV. So, lets hear from those who have personally (names, location dealt with an agent who will do extensions for 13,000 b or less as claimed......
I enquired at one in Pattaya recently out of curiously just after Big Jock was appointmed, 12900 baht although they won’t open a Bank account for you now.

This is a new revelation to me. Using a VISA AGENT puts you in danger of a five year prison sentence, when some of the visa services advertise that you can see their "agent" at immigration? Is this an exaggeration or a true danger for those who use visa services? If so, it's no wonder that many end up in prison here.
Too many snouts in the trough, the Agent pays the Bank for the letter, he takes a cut and the IO take the rest.
1900 baht to renew, say Agent charges 15000 baht, 13100 baht left, nice little earner.

Use visa agent. 25000 baht. Easy peasy.
25000 baht, rip off, 13000 here in Pattaya when a colleague enquired at an Agent.
He was using the Income letter before but obviously after next year he can’t and doesn’t have 800000 baht.

Will Jomtien accept a joint Bank Account for the 800000 baht, it would be in mine and my G/F ?

if you cannot verify the documents 100% they are not acceptable.
So the embassy letters were just fine for the last 18 years and now they are not ok for 4 countries but they are still fine for all other countries?....?.....?
A colleague has told me he has a joint account with his Thai ‘wife’ it was only a blessing for the 800000 and Immigration at Hua Hin accepted that, I thought it had to be a sloe Account ?

In view of the aboveI I do not understand why documentary proof would not be enough to satisfy Thai Immigration because at the end the day a statement made by an individual even if stamped by a Consular Official does not amount to proof of anything.
Please tell me if I am missing something.
Yes what hat you are missing is the Embassy have no way of checking if your documents are genuine. They as far as I know are not linked too the Pension Centre to verify them and don’t have the manpower or want to pay for the manpower to check each individuals documents from their homeland,
Immigration have said if you cannot verify the documents 100% they are not acceptable.

You could open a Foreign currency account and change monies when the rates are more favourable rather than have it all in Thai baht.
Is a foreign Currency Account providing it has the equivalent of 800000 baht in it and instant access acceptable for funds for Extension of Stay ?

And, off topic but relevant, I was told I needed a Yellow Book to re-new D Licence, and that I had to bemarried to get Yellow Book. Do not believe everything you are told. Ask Ubon Joe first. lol
Whilst Ubon Joe is very informative I don’t think he can comment on individual/local Banks policies.
The rep would I assume be on a commission for new customers and possibly the more the deposit the more commission.
i have no problem as I would be depositing a substantial amount, one thing she didn’t request was a Residence Letter from Immigration.

You do not need 100K to open a Krungsri MTD account or regular savings account....you just need to deposit the typical Bt500 standard for most Thai bank savings accounts The Krungsri rep probably said you start earning 1.3% at 100K....below 100K it's 0.6%....and didn't say you must deposit 100K to open.
Thai banks will always ask for a home country address since they know you are here on a short or long stay visa/extension of stay.
See below snapshot/partial quote from the Krungsri 1 Oct 18 Deposit Interest Rate sheet. Krungsri rate sheets also describe their various products.
https://www.krungsri.com/bank/en/Other/Interestratesfees/Depositinterestrate.html
I am only repeating what the I was told by the Bank Rep, 100k baht to open the account, next time I will record the conversation as you don’t appear to believe me.

How often do you do withdrawals? (from your bank, cheeky)
I enquired at Krungsri today, 1.3% per annum, 2 withdrawals permitted each month, any additional withdrawals in a month 50 baht.
To open an account you need a U.K. Address, address here, 100k baht.

Friend of mine went to extend his visa, the IO said he had not made a deposit into his account for a while, the 800 000 baht was already there and for 3 months.
So he had to go to the bank, deposit 500 baht, then the amount did not tally with the bank letter, so he had to get a new letter, and go back the following day to extend his visa.
I do like you, I just deposit 500 baht when go for the letter.
Which IO was this, I will be using Jomtien so just trying to get some clarity or is it down to the individual IO ?
