  1. Along canal road I see kids jumping all the time.

This spot is just south Huay Tung Thao and North of 700 year complex.

That water will probably boost the immune system if it doesn't pummel you first.

Probably good to practice shallow water landings for those future motorbike crashes into canals, moats or just big puddles.

Or who can forget the ever popular Chiang Mai Grand Canyon for cliff diving.

  2. ^^^ I was interested to hear from mindscrubber because seemed to know about IPM

I have heard of some of the arguments that designing a plant that soaks up pesticide early inside it's tissues allows for less pesticide waste and the pesticides being largely cleared by the time the plant is ready to harvest.

Lower use of phosphates and phosphate runoff.

There are some interesting arguments but wanted to hear from someone who is not just parroting the anti monsanto/cargill/gmo side.

  3. A lot of people think Magnesium Sulphate is just to make your muscles feel better but its really important to get transdermal sources of magnesium because dietary magnesium is hard to absorb.

Even if a person is eating tons of green vegetables magnesium is often running low. Most studies show it is the number one/two deficiency in humans.

The other choice for transdermal magnesium is Magnesium Chloride. It costs a bit more than Magnesium Sulphate.

Thailand is so far behind when it comes to health management and knowledge.

e.g. consider how many people are walking around with rotten dental health. That just hammers a persons mineral/vitamin status.

  4. Sounds like they are selling funky stuff these days

Amazing Thailand. Can't even get Epsom salts right

    Fortunately its not big money.

I guess another reason I am leaning toward moving back to US.

You can buy a 5 pound tub at Walmart for $4

In Thailand its an odyssey to find it and then it's junk

    Yeesh

  5. I have been buying Epsom salts at Union Science for 3 months using 1 KG a week. Several days ago, we put our usual 2 cups in our tub of hot water and it quickly turned to a diarrhea brown. We returned the open bag and a glass jar of the water which we saved. The "helpful" staff with typical Thai logic said they couldn't refund or exchange the bag because we had opened it. Never mind the fact that only by opening and using the contents did we find that the product appeared to be tainted.

Test some of the suspected Epsom salt in some other known clean water such as drinking water

I have heard of impure epsom salts doing that in clean water but have only experienced when my water quality got funky.

Also look for dark particles in the salts. If they are all white then quite a mystery.

  6. You could probably hitchhike for a pickup truck by holding up a willing to pay x baht to Samoeng sign.

    Written in Thai of course.

There might be some mini van's that travel to resorts etc to get part/most of the way.

I can't recall seeing song thaews on the southern part of the loop.

  7. best deal I have found is at

Union Science on Suthep road near the Nimmanhemin intersection

45 baht per kilo. It's located in the second row.

There is a more expensive choice on the first aisle

Probably similar deals at other medical/chemical supply places around town.

  8. I would be there are quite a few younger farang tourists who steal...

I doubt it's a very high percentage. Especially at Tops.

Let's guess that 10% of Tops shoppers are Farangs and a whopping 20% of them steal. That's 2% of the total.

They have to be farm dumb to key on Farangs.

If they were catching Farangs shoplifting for sure it would be on CM108 etc because the locals would eat it up.

Lots of videos of thai/burmese stealing motorbikes. Where are all the videos of Farangs stealing?

But foreigners stealing does fit the Thai narrative of Thailands problems are caused by foreigners.

Okay maybe middle eastern, eastern european and Russian's in parts of Thailand.

Kind of depends on how Farang is defined.

  9. I would bet serious money most of the shoplifters are Thai/burmese

But they seem to be most interested in foreigners.

How many expats do you suppose shoplift? Gee I think I will leave my rich country and travel to a poor country with world class horror quality prisons and steal stuff at the Tops.

One time I was at the checkout and there is that little pharmacy opposite and a naive young girl was at the counter while this thai guy that I think she knew was pushing a few bottles of supplements into his jacket.

I kind of glared at him and he got irate.

I thought oh well. Not for me to get involved.

  10. I've had it with Tops KSK.

The security guards are creepy and had one of them bearing down on me at the check out like I stole something. These guards are farm dumb.

I like KSK but you are right about the farm dumb guards. What do you say to them to get them off your case or do you talk with the manager?

I figure what's the point of talking to the manager. It's their job to not scare people away.

I have had some fun with them staring them down but mostly just shifted my business over to the Rimping and the other Tops.

  11. ^^^^ why are you going on about what's wrong with postings and threads on ThaiVisa ???????????????

It's something about human nature to go criticize other posters to get some passive aggressive points.

How would you like it if someone came into a thread you were interested in and said

Hey big dong's are so overrated. They feel like sandpaper in your muffler?

  12. I've had it with Tops KSK.

The security guards are creepy and had one of them bearing down on me at the check out like I stole something. These guards are farm dumb.

I have been going there for maybe 10 years and dropping lots of bahts almost everyday.

Rimping at Maya or the Tops Chotana are much more friendly and they appreciate the business.

Hopefully this doesn't fall under the C-ship stuff because I still really like the other Tops stores and the issue I have with that branch is correctable with slightly better management.

The fundamental problem with a lot of businesses in Thailand is that they don't actively seek input for ideas of how to improve their businesses.

If KSK mgmt. had any sense they would send girls out with clipboards to ask visitors for feedback on services they like and want and find out what they dislike.

  13. These Thai reporters are such collossal hacks.

Let's see. Not qualified to sell BBQ chicken? I know be a reporter.

Look at this picture at the Bangkok post.

The guy wasn't very decomposed. Didn't appear to be African and I seriously doubt was unidentifiable.

<link removed - Forum Rule 26) The Bangkok Post and Phuketwan do not allow quotes from their news articles or other material to appear on Thaivisa.com. Neither do they allow links to their publications. Posts from members containing quotes from or links to Bangkok Post or Phuketwan publications will be deleted from the forum.>[/size]

  14. kind of illustrates how amateur the Thai press can be.

You can look at the picture and the fellow is not that decomposed or African

    Dummies

check the bangkok post. I guess cannot post their links.

What does it take to be a reporter in Thailand?

Fail the Song Taew drivers exam and have an active imagination?

  15. ^^ It's speculated fruit bats can carry ebola as a carrier without being affected. Where the virus mutates is a bit unclear. A mutation might take a while to reemerge if ever. Some viruses just die out or go dormant.

Let's not forget less than 100 years ago the Spanish Flu killed like 50 million.

I ran across this sobering quote

"A new paper in the journal Science has analyzed viral DNA from 78 Ebola patients in Sierra Leone and found 300 genetic changes in the virus that are specific to this outbreak. It also traced the strain’s divergence from the central African type of Ebola to around 2004. (Tragically, five of the paper’s authors have since died of the disease)."

    http://www.macleans.ca/society/health/ebola-what-you-need-to-know-ii/

Also it does not have to be a biblical amount of death caused directly by the virus.

The outbreaks might cause a secondary effect like economic dislocation that in turns causes a conflict.

For example currently oil prices are falling. Russia is again really vulnerable to default if the price falls below certain levels/duration.

An outbreak could just tip the scales for a world power to act out for purposes of survival and create a chaos which could in turn allow the virus to grow unchecked.

Similiar to what happened in WW 1 and the Spanish Flu

  16. I see what your saying but I have seen dogs and cats that are dead in the road and they just don't seem to break down to unidentifiable that quickly.

    Maybe they have different bacteria.

Even when maggots infest road kill it still takes a while to not be able to identify them.

Maybe they don't have the timeline correct.

    Maybe it was longer.
