  2. I don't recommend this Sunrise, waste of money with those European prices.

You may not like our food. It can happen as everybody has different taste buds. We have a large repeat business which we are happy to have. We wish we could make everybofy happy, thats our goal because people have expecations we want to exceed.

However I wonder where you can get a enchilada plate for 3.50 euros or 3 tacos for three euros at a restaurant in Europe? Guy tonight from Norway stated " that it was 5 times more expensive there in Europe and our quality was the best he ever had. " The other 4 people in his group agreed with him. I don't know what the prices are in Europe but would say the odds are high we are cheaper.

If you think our prices were high for the enchilada which is 159 Baht then guess you might think Coyotes will be real high at the price of 360 Baht or the 275 Baht they charge for two tacos that we charge 98 Baht for. Then again you might like the taste. Others say they like ours better.

Taste is one thing that is open to debate but saying we have European prices is a different matter.

  3. Well, not trying to be rude, but for me the online delivery system it's not working for Subway. It shows a big
    Sorry,

    Delivery is not available.

, even though I can order over the phone. What's that all about?

They just started the online delivery with Subway so still some kinks. :o

The problem with the online delivery is someone has to be there to take the order as the computer is on a different floor than where the delivery people are. The girls that handles the online delivery does not work on Sat or Sun, so the computer then says” no online delivery” They are working on getting the computer moved and the line to where the delivery station is with bells going off when a delivery comes in via printer. Everything in Thailand takes time to get a simple computer moved with the bells as well.

  4. That's good news, but mostly, I for one, order late at night. I think you guys should have your own web form where people can order online, hassle free.

    We do appreciate your business.

Big hassle getting a proper web guy for the on-line ordering program. I know at Subway we had to go with 4 different companies before it was done and it added up to be an expensive project.

Might be best in the meantime to get a ordering form that just can be faxed in. That we are working on.

  5. That is good news, i stopped ordering from there cos of the borderlin

e rude/abrupt lady on the phone saying she wont deliver to my area (silom/sathorn) - with ChefXP i will order from Sunrise thro them!

Sorry for the lady. One of the reasons we are going with ChefsXp as its hard on my staff taking the phone order and take care of customers. Now we'll let the pros take the order.

We now deliver most of the time to Silom but with ChefsXP, it will be all the time.

  6. .... However next week during 10:30 a.m till 10:30 p.m......

Ok, I will stop being lazy and get in a Taxi

    CHIPS AND GUACAMOLE 99 Baht

NACHOS (Melted cheese over tortilla chips) 89 Baht

I know what I am going to eat

I met the guy this morning and we are expected to sign next week. We are talking about phasing in as he needs to hire more drivers with the amount of deliveries we do now and will be doing. Hopefully everything should be up 100% soon in the meantime just please call our store at 02-229-4851

  7. Hi does any of you nice people have any tips, i have a fully VAT registered Co.Ltd company and we submit tax on the 15th of every month as required BUT, as the company is inactive because we must wait for 12+ months for the US/UK side of the wholesale business to kick in we need to get the thai side of the companies cost down?

Is any1 using a virtual office now and if so is it really expensive and how many directors do you have?

Thanks folks hope you all had a great new year in the Kingdom of smile or where ever you were.

May 2008 be a productive and safe year for this lovely country

    regards

    Kelvin

If you are in the VAT system or have a work permit, you can't have a "virtual office". You could have had a virtual office two or three years ago but times have changed. At the bare minimum, you must have a office address that is registered with the Thai government that has a space earmarked with only for your company. You cannot even have a a "Hot" desk that you share with other companies. (We have a “Hot Desk” as a branch office in the UAE that we pay $400.00 a month for, we get only two hours a day with the desk! That works there because we have not opened yet. )

Thai authorities do visit from the Labor Dept, to the VAT people to the withholding tax people to the Department of Business Development. All checking if companies paperwork is current or just a shell company. Once you start exporting and want the Vat credit, they will visit the office every month!

We do offer office rental to these companies from a private office for companies to a executive desk. On the lease your space in a office has to be registered so when they visit, they want to see as an example "space 24A." This space cannot be air such as a virtual office. If you work from there or not, it must have a exclusive work station with your companies name at “24A”. The professional fee we charge is 3,900 Baht per month for the large Executive Desk, with two months free if you pay a year in advance. You get free use of five hours high speed Internet and unlimited use of conference rooms throughout the city as well. Private Suites for up to 5 people range from 8,000 Baht a month to 19,000 Baht per month.

If your company is just registered with the Department of Business Development and it never was registered with the Labor Dept or VAT Revenue Dept then you possibly could have a "virtual office." Even this is debatable as Government staff from the Department of Business Development and the Tax ID officials do visit from time to time on new formed companies checking to make sure everything is in order. The virtual office in this case would be 2,500 Baht per month or two months free if you paid a year in advance. If it was a "virtual office" the Revenue Dept has been known to revisit around six months to make sure the company is on the up and up. The Department of Business Development will want to to see a sign with your name on the dooor and your company paperwork.

The government has much more staff these days to check.

If you never registered a company, you just need use of a conference room ( based on availability) or you want use of the Internet service for 5 hours with a “ Hot desk”. Then service is 1,900 baht per month.

  8. I like Sunrise Tacos because they deliver 24/7, otherwise, nothing fancy, I'd better go for Coyote, the food is much better as far as mexican food goes. Sunrise Tacos is pretty fairly priced, but the delivery service sux. The operators have no idea about what they're selling, the delivery fare is way too expensive and it takes ages to arrive.

By the way, we now deliver 24 hours a day and do around 35 deliveries a day.

However next week during 10:30 a.m till 10:30 p.m. we'll be outsourcing this to chefsxpress http://www.chefsxp.com/restaurants.php This will be easier for customers to get our food with no mark up like some other services.

They will have unlimited Thai/English speaking call-center staff with unlimited well-groomed riders with ChefsXP uniform (white chef outfit with white/red cap) and all delivery in Bangkok will be made with hotbag technology.

  9. I had three soft corn tacos for 139B, with chicken, pork and pulled beef.

That translates to about $4.20. I am sorry but that is just too expensive for a semi fast food joint. About $1 cheaper would be appropriate...especially for Thailand. As an American, I am guilty of converting everything to U.S dollars. Since I live here, I just don't go around paying American prices for everything or I would go broke. Geez...this is Thailand..remember?? I really like Sunrise Taco, but I'm not a tourist so I cannot spend like one. I am willing to go there for "special cravings". I also don't want to single them out, as most tourist area places have inflated prices.

My prices were lower when we first opened. But since then chicken and pork have gone up 50%. Cheese and sour cream prices has gone up over 50%. Jalapenos, beans, avocados, tomatoes, lettuce, bell peppers have all gone up as well. Ziploc bags, paper bags and aluminum foil have gone up.

When it comes down to it, almost everything we use has gone up in the last 6 months. We are still cheaper than any other Mexican place in Bangkok. I wish we could be lower but with the cost of items, sorry we can’t be.

  10. Thai food is great, but sometimes a girl just craves some cheese!

I gave Sunrise Tacos a try a few days ago, in the Nana location.

I had three soft corn tacos for 139B, with chicken, pork and pulled beef.

The soft tortillas were delicious, but even two layers of tortilla wasn't enough to keep my tacos from disintegrating, and i had to eat most of them with a fork.

    Thanks for stopping by.

You had the soft corn tortillas which we make by hand. Sorry they didn’t stay together and were not up to my standards. The key to not having them fall apart is the tortilla maker who has to cook them exactly the right way. This is a craft that a Mexican learns as a child but gringos find harder. We continue to train our staff. Most get it but if it only takes one not to do it the right way. Some know but "forget".Overall the freshness comes thru and why we do it this way rather than buying from the store. If the right person is making the soft corn tortilla, its pure delight. Its 100 % ground corn, lime and a pinch of salt. That’s it.

The tacos were bland, but in a comfort food sort of way that is not necessarily bad. I tried the different salsas, and being used to som tam, didn't find any of them very spicy. The chicken and pork were very tasty, I didn't like the beef as much.

Try the Johns Super Hot Salsa. We use a good amount of habaneros chilies in it. Most habaneros will rate between 200,000 and 300,000 Scoville units compared to jalapenos which are 2,500 to 10,000 scoville units of hot.

The portions were *huge* and I couldn't finish it all. One taco would probably have been enough for me.

    Thanks

The restaurant is cheerful, even though the parking lot view isn't the best.

I surmise you ate at the old original location which has the seats facing the parking lot. We have outgrown this location and did build a new location across the parking lot with 50 more seats. This is what a number of people complained before about was the parking lot view which we have rectified by expanding.

The staff seemed a bit harassed, and some members of the staff were chewing out the younger waitresses. One drawback of the Nana location is the other patrons: there was a group of really loud, fat, rude Americans, hired company in tow, yelling at the waitress, but that's a problem with other restaurants in the area too. I might avoid the Nana location and go to Emporium in the future.

They were very shorthanded that weekend. a number of staff called in sick and with me being in the States for the holidays does not help any. The Emporium location is good but does not have the soft corn option. Only soft flour or crispy tortillas for tacos.

We will be opening the third location at the Siam Paragon on Jan 15th 2008. It will be near the check out counters of the supermarket at the ground floor. Walk straight back from the Subway/ Starbucks area and you'll find it. I hope to have soft corn tacos here as well.

Overall, Sunrise isn't perfect, but I think it's good value for money, and I'll be back when I have another taco craving! :-)

Perfect.... I agree it isn't. Not sure if we'll ever be perfect unless I bring in a bunch of Mexicans that can speak English a well. For Asia in a number of peoples eyes, were considered one of the best Mexican restaurants but compared to the service and quality ( of course the prices are higher) in the States, we have a ways to go. Some things though we are top shelf like our guacamole. We are the cats meow on this. Also you are correct, our portions are very good for tacos. Bigger than anything I've been served in 13 restaurants the last 10 days. I will continue to try to improve for 2008.

Please say “Hi” the next time you visit.

  11. By the way, just checked out the new Sunrise Tacos web site - is it still in mid-development right now? It certainly looks like it needs some work doing on it. In my opinion, for what it's worth, the site looks pretty ropey and does not match up to the excellent standards of the Sunrise Tacos food.

The old site, while still not exactly cutting edge and wouldn't be anywhere on the Google rankings, at least looked a bit cleaner and more professional than this new version.

    I agree.

This is what I get, when having my graphic designer try to be a web designer. :o The site needs work but iin fact he does well on Google in some areas such as top listing on the name "Sunrise Tacos" and " Mexican Grill" but needs help on phrases such as Mexican food in Bangkok, Mexican restaurant Bangkok, Taco Bangkok, Burrito Bangkok.

Will just hire someone else to do work on this website along with a couple others.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

  12. I hope they deliver soon and it better be with chefsXP (dot com) cos they are the best!!! All restaurant prices. . . no rip-offs

We are delivering 24 hours with 7 staff but yes we are in talks with Chefsxp. They do charge 20- 25% to the restaurant but we are working on this. The owner seems like a nice guy and looks like we'll be hooking up.

  13. It certainly dont look like no O'brians is happening inside that Villa that I can see

The last I saw, it was still behind a big wall curtain. ( If you enter in from the first door off Suk Soi 11, it would be all the way to the right once you enter into the main section of the store) This was a couple weeks ago the wall curtain was still there.

  14. Had my first opportunity to try your place at lunch today. The food was up to my expectations, service was good, food served quickly and hot. Only negative was the air con seemed to be either not working or less than required for the room. We ate at the location next to Times Square across from the DHL shop. Seemed staff was getting food from the other side of the soi, so perhaps there was a problem that day with the electrics, anyway that's just a nit pick detail, will definitely be back again. This place is a good example of what can be done using quality ingredients, staying with a basic menu selection and focusing on quality. Can't believe its taken this many years to find a place (outside my own kitchen) to get a decent taco, or burro. I would highly suggest you take this idea to the next level, a full mexican resto with complete dinner menu. This city needs one.

Thanks for stopping by. The counter is now up since 10 p.m. the night you visited so no more getting the food from the other side.

I will be doing full service in the future.

Just ate at a good Mexican restaurant tonight in NYC. Bout fell over on the $21.25 ++ charge for 5 cokes. So much for free refills. :-) But they did have some items that we also can carry in the future with a full service restaurant ( at a new location)

    www.sunrisetacos.com

  15. I see membership as a financial proposition. From this angle, it makes some sense. For 1 million baht (US$ 30,000) a member receives a renewable 5-year "Thai Elite" visa. The visa is renewable in perpetuity (as long as the scheme is in existence) at no additional charge. It can be extended IN-COUNTRY every 3 months [for the standard extension charge of B 1,900]. So no need for any further "visa runs" for members who chose to use their membership as a way to reside in-country.

We've been told Monday is the deadline to still get the million Baht price ( you need to fill out the application.) It goes up on Jan 1st 2008 to 1.5 million Baht and to get the lower price, you need to be approved and funds in the bank by that time. It seems they are seriously going to enforce this cutoff ( this is the stance at this time.) In fact if you call the membership hotline, as I did this morning, they are saying" it's already now 1.5 million Baht."

    http://www.thailandelite.com/contactus.php

Couple changes... The card is limited to 24 golf greens and 24 spa visits per year. Also the card is good only for one person in the family. Used to be you could piggyback off one family member who has a card. Now each family member needs to have a card if you want this visa option.

Money is now transferred to Thailand and is no longer sent to Singapore.

No annual fee at this point but could change for new applicants in January.

Sunbelt Asia as a sub agent will give a 20,000 Baht rebate if you mention you are a Thaivisa member and we get credit for the introduction.

  16. Had an opportunity to see the new improved SUNRISE TACO restaurant last nite.

Located in the Leader Drug Plaza adjacent to Suk Soi 12 and Times Square.

    Beautifully outfitted.

    Well done Khun Greg.

Thanks for your comments and thank you for stopping by at Sunrise Tacos. I must give credit to my wife for her vision on the decoration.

Ah, I see. Shame the original location had to close though, I quite enjoyed the food. Hope you get the new one open soon!

I hope so to. A number of people have commented they miss the meatballs and hamburgers.

  17. OK, I'll bite, hopefully, where to buy Apple or Pumpkin Pie around Bangkok?

    Even good apple turnovers.

Used to be could get great turnovers down at that mini mall on the corner of Soi 41 Sukumbvit but they stopped making them long ago.  Also fairly decent ones at Yazaki shops, also stopped.

    ????

    Mac

We started offering Pumpkin Pie for Thanksgiving and have had many people in love with it. We have not stop making the pumkin pies everyday. The pumpkin pie is homemade fresh including the fresh pumpkin we use.

We then introduced Apple Pie a week ago and this has been a big hit as well with rave reviews. We make the apple pie homemade fresh every afternoon with Granny Smith apples imported from Washington and we make the pie crust from scratch.

Its 69 Baht a slice and 499 Baht for the whole 9 inch pie at the Sukhumvit Soi 12 location

We also have imported premium Mexican Coffee Beans and roasted them. We offer a unlimted " bottomless" mug of premium cofffee while you at the restaurant for 59 Baht.

  18. You forgot O-Brian's on Sukhumvit Road near Soi 5.

It has been sold three months ago. Its now a Dim Sum Place. My wife wanted to relocate O'Brians as the building may be demolish in three years to make room for a hotel. In addition, they were increasing the rent, She no longer had the corner exposure as they let a tailor build a shop next to the ex-Obrians, No airconditioning after midnight or on weekends. The Dim Sum restaurant wanted exposure for three years and was ok with the changes.

O'Brian's is suppose to reopen inside The Villa at Soi 11. If you look behind the big curtain inside the Villa, you won't see the Wizard of Oz but a unfinished project as a dispute has continued till today between the Ambassador Hotel the Landlord and the Villa about construction. O'Brians has been caught in the middle as a tenant who needs to construct in order to open the restaurant.

  19. I have a start-up company, now two year's old. Like most start-ups, I invested my own capital on development costs. But it turns out that I need to show sufficient income (or is profit?) to be able to pay myself and my Thai staff one whole year in advance.

Otherwise my request for a visa renewal (/work permit) is refused. My recent application was rejected on these grounds.

Using minimum salary guidelines (50,000/foreigner, 5,600/staff per month) this effectively means just under 1 million baht for each foreigner.

Does anyone have any idea about what I can do now? I suppose it hardly matters that I (my company) developed methods to teach Thai to foreigners, or improve English communication for Thais, or even to improve management skills in Thai companies.

Maybe if my company was 3-4 years in business then I could understand this requirement, but as a start-up I didn't expect to make any money in the first year and expect only to break sometime in year 3.

How many other small (expat) businesses are affected by these new regulations and what happens to these businesses and the people (including the 4 Thai staff per foreigner)?

Simply get a multi entry visa at a Consulate/ Embassy and then revalidate your work permit every 90 days when you cross the border and get a fresh 90 days to stay in Thailand. Your work permit will then be stamped for another 90 days.

No connection with the Silom branch. Only with six Subways and yes the Siam Paragon Subway is one that I'm connected with.

The quality is superb... personal favorite is a toss up between "Santa Anita - enchilada" and "Texas - steak Fajitas". Good food, good price, well done...

    Thanks ! Great to hear.

    See you at Sunrise Tacos.
