  1. 1. Submit in morning and returned next workday afternoon I believe is still the routine.

    2. Tourist visa should be free until June 4.

    3. Hotels have changed since I was last there and always spent a bit more. Believe there is still a well respected Indian run newsstand that does visas in the middle of the tourist area if hotel does not offer the service.

hmm I found in maps.google.com that there is a Thai embassy AND a Thai consulate which are close together. To which should I go for faster access?

  2. I gonna make a Visa trip to Penang on 22.April.

    Following questions I have:

1)How many days does it take for the embassy to give the visa from the day of submission?

2)Is the Visa still free? (according to Thai governments new policy)

3)Does anyone know a cheap but good hotel with Visa service? (around 500 baht per night?)

I went for years to Penang to the 'Golden City Hotel'. That guy there always fixed my visa and he received a few bucks for it. I want to change the hotel. I saw last time when I was flying AirAsia in a magazine/brochure that there are new hotels in Penang very cheap and good. I made some pictures with my mobile but I lost the pictures somehow and can't remember what name/area it was.

Appreciate any input about people who made the Penang Visa trip.

    Thanks

  4. 10th April 2009. No weapon as per the law. Otherwise they would have been cleared by tear gas.

Molotov coctails, Slingshorts with bolts no weapons? Blocking PM's of other nations not a crime? I wonder what would happen to me if I go with some people to a hotel where Barrack Bbama has his quaters and block him from leaving. WHAT would the americans do you think?

Just look and say: Nice we don't intefere, they fix it themselve?

  5. "For online users, both VISA and MasterCard use an online verification procedure based on '3-D Secure' that you should register your card(s) with. "Verified by VISA" and "SecureCode by MasterCard" are free services provided by the primary card issuers and supported by a growing amount of online vendors. Your bank that issued the VISA or MasterCard may not have pointed out this feature but you should go online and do it anyway."

I tried this yesterday with AirAsia and my Mastercard. I had virtually completed the while transaction when the "Verified by MC" pop-up told me 3 times I had incorrectly filled out the online form - I hadn't, obviously. So the system barred my credit card from using AirAsia. So Nok Air gets my business...

When will banks learn that they have to inform the customer before they do security checks, as they just louse up their own business and lose customers!

I totaly agree. I also tried to buy a Airasia ticket and the 'Verified by Visa" popup came. It came without warning. When I buy outside thailand -online- something there is nothing about 'Verified by Visa...". So in thailand it might be better protected then outside the country.

Many banks already have a one-time-pad system. I wonder why they not use it for online-credit card transactions?

  6. As the title says. How would you stop a run of bad luck. This run has been going on for almost 6 months now.

From car problems initially through a leak in the ceiling dripping onto the tv to 2 car accidents and a whole host of bad Karma that seems to be there on a weekly basis.

And, no leaving Thailand is not an option :o

I had the same experience. Many things went wrong and I was getting desperate. From motorbike accident, robbery and theft. After consulting with my (thai)wife she told me to go to 'wat' (temple) with her. I received 'sdog kro'. Its a 'dispel' of bad things (I was explained).

Its already about a year ago and I can't complain. Not that I won a lot in lottery but it seems -for me at least- to take the pressure off and with that maybe the 'worrying attitude', which helped me to go on. Nothing really bad happened.

I had a good experience with it.

  7. I had a contract with ToT (1mb/512k) and after 3 month I had to contract CAT (2mb/1mb) to ensure that I have 'some' stable

internet access. ToT is comparable with African Internet Service Provider which gets interrupted every hour for 5-7min. My Contract with ToT

will cease in 3 month and I can only emphasize not to use ToT at all.

I had to pay over 700 baht in phonecalls to ToT for 2 weeks to get a result. They always told me that my PC has the problem. I am a system administrator and I told them that their switch is broken, which they actively refused. It wasn't until the last day (of the 14 days) I was getting so angry that I drove up to them with 4 of my friends with me who had exactly the same problem and threaten them with a civil lawsuit, that they were looking into the problem themselves.

    The result:

    Switch was broken.

    R.I.P. ToT

  8. I and many others, stopped using Thai airways when they ruined their frequent flyer program. I will never fly with them again unless they are the cheapest on the market.

Exactly my opinion. What do they think to charge 50% or more AND charge then again a fuel surcharge!

I think we have to thank Thaksin for Airasia

  9. When all else fails call Sunbelt Asia. They are not inexpensive but they can solve most any visa related problem. They advertise on this site

funny, my wife called a few weeks back sunbelt asia to enquire about 1 year visa

and all they did was to tell her that she should go to the immigration and get the information herrself.

We called twice because we couldn't believe it. Different person, same story.

Sunbelt Asia is a NO NO to us

    EDIT: Typo
