  1. 33 degrees in Thawi Wattana right now. A little overcast but there is a slight breeze. Feels quite comfortable. More rain scheduled for this afternoon--I hope. Makes for quite a difference from the 41 degree days just a couple of weeks ago. This time of year and October provide many nice days in Thailand.
  2. I used to think this, too. But, Hawaii, like a lot of the US has become stressful. My life in Thailand is not stressful. I feel okay walking anywhere I want, going where I want. I've never felt threatened or in danger. In the US and even in Hawaii, I'm always looking over my shoulder. The absence of stress and fear is priceless. I do admit that in a perfect imagined world, life would be great on the Robin Masters estate.
  3. I would still be here, in the same house, doing the same things, except I would probably run the a/c more often during the early evening. Would probably also order some more rare books from overseas. Fundamentally, I'm happy here and just want things that affect me to stay the way they are.
  4. Meanwhile, for US expatriates in Thailand using the monthly income method for their retirement extensions this could be a problem if social security payments are cancelled during the first two days. With the 3rd of June on a Saturday, payments should be going out on Friday. So no wiggle room. Just two days at the beginning of the month to get things. settled.
  5. Please, please don't crackdown on the Russians. They're all in a few spots right now, and it would be a pity to see this operation cause them to spread out.
  6. Then there would no longer need to be an English language option on immigration websites.
  7. How do you know "the foreigner" isn't a Thai citizen? There is at least one constant poster to this forum, originally from Scotland, who is always reminding us he is a Thai citizen. Looks like a lot in this story is completely unknown: an out of context video with a guy mostly just standing over another guy on the sidewalk. The rest is hearsay and conjecture.
  8. So this isn't about a Boeing 747?
  9. The quote says, "Chinese man." I'm not a mind reader. It's the newspaper's job to say if they're making an ethnic comment rather than nationality status.
  10. Why isn't the Chinese identified as a foreigner as well?
  11. What people want, as indicated by their support for the Thai political parties who all agree, is to shut it down.
  12. In western Bangkok suburbs, I've seen forecasts for rain since last Sunday. Then, every day or so they move the forecast for rain down a day or two. Still waiting. And no damn rain at all.
  13. If you're talking about the US, the "jacking" will occur when you get your bill for the ambulance and the trip to the emergency room.
  14. I see the Fresno police are investigating the occurrence as a hate crime. I guess that now is the US equivalence of Thai defamation law.
  15. All original cutting edge material of an avant-garde European stopping to buy food at markets, eating street food, and riding scooters. GoFundMe account is already in place, I hope.
  16. For sure, don't try to control anyone. Let it be like my country, where people are pushed off subway platforms in front of trains, where it is accepted to be able to walk into stores and steal things right off the shelves, to walk around putting your backside into people's faces, to beat them up, steal their cars, and then have the police and district attorneys simply dismiss it all. Yeah, let's make Thailand like that.
  17. Probably right. But that then means a surplus of immigration employees, too. Don't doubt it. Immigration is a jobs program for Thais. Reduce the number of foreigners needing paper work, and you'll reduce the number of Thais working for immigration. So I say, keep everything as it is. Keep everybody happy and employed.
  18. Hospitals? Aren't they already wallowing in the cash?
  19. Wonder if a new government will be stuck with buying those submarines or if they can be cancelled?
  20. I don't know how well that will work out for Thailand. But I would love to see it in the USA.
