  1. I was told that for their service they ask between 1,500 and 2,000 baht.

    CEC asked 200 baht.

If I was told incorrectly, please, accept my apologies and tell me/us what is the correct fee for a 90-day report service.

Neinke, more and more people are getting 90 days done by post for around 35-80baht depending on whether you use reg or ems, it would have saved you 2 trips. Unless of course there is no PO near your place?

I can understand the CEC helping those doing visa renewals or possibly even re-entry but seems that 90 days with online and postal options is unnecessary.

    But simply my opinion.

    I know, thanks. :)

I was too late ... as usual. ;)

  2. Okay, so I went to the CLL office last Sep. 23 to give the paperwork and my passport, and the service fee.
Before I went I had read the threads here on Thaivisa, including there where it says you need to be a CEC member, and following what was written in these threads, I downloaded, filled in and copied the documents needed for a 90-day stamp. Still, Nancy advised me to copy one more page in my passport. No problem, as there was a copy-machine right next to us. And better too many documents then one missing.
I was a bit early, and there were already 3 people before me. This, and that it was the first time for CEC's Nancy and Bob, I was helped and on my way home within the hour. Fast, efficient, very friendly, and helpful.

Yesterday, again I was early. Immigration started on time at 1pm and I was out of there within half an hour with a new 90-day stamp in my passport. Actually I do not know exactly how long it took, maybe 20 minutes maybe 40, because I always bring something to study and my phone with internet. Talk or read about dogs and I forget the time.

I would like to say a BIG Thank You to Nancy, Bob and the CEC team and immigration for setting up this service to the CEC members. Considering that the other options were either paying an agency almost 10 times as much (which I would have done, btw), or waking up at 4am in order to be at immigration at 5am. I for one really appreciate this new service.
    Thank you!

As for the Promenada: allowing goats and sheep there the whole day in a tiny space, even with nice straw food and water there, is plain disgusting and says a lot about the no-sense of and/or interest in the welfare of the animals. Why not providing them with a larger space (partly) on one of the grassy area's?

  3. A vet once told me that the muscles around the hip support the hip joint for about 60%. So, well developed muscles is a must. Swimming will be the best, cause the water supports the body so that there will be a lot less weight on the joints while exercising.

Then reviewing her diet. What do you give? What dog brand? Is there a lot of grain in her diet. Grains are inflammatory.

Personally, I would take all grains out of her diet and switch to a raw food diet.

And you can look into supplements. Many vets sell products that contain glucosamin and chondroitin.
Turmeric is a fantastic herb that works as a powerful anti-inflammatory and has been used for hip problems in dogs: https://www.google.co.th/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1AISC_enTH529TH529&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=dogs%20turmeric%20hips

The Thai word for turmeric is Ka-min chan.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid in combination with Sodium ascorbate or Calcium ascorbate) can also have an smoothing effect on the cartilage in the joints.
I usually use Hi-Cee (for humans) available in every pharmacy.

  4. Oh my goodness, I sure hope it isn't a fake one.Too expensive for just throwing it into the bin and buy another that works.
I bought it at the LG shop on the 2nd floor of Central Festival, and the shop-guy pointed this one out to me.

I'm going to read and watch the info you, so kindly, provided first.
Thank you very much for your help Tywais.

Fingers crossed it will do the trick. smile.png

  5. You can try checking with Dog2Boy.com They are based in Udon Thani, and have many breeds both with and without pedigree available.

If they don't have it, most likely they know who does. However, you need a Thai speaker, as the lady owner speaks very limited English.

Also it would serve you well to aid her with photo of the breed you are looking for lest she's unfamiliar with the breed name.

In Bangkok, please beware of the dogs on sale at Chatuchak Weekend Market, as most are from puppy farms that disregards even the basics of breeding standards. Even pedigree papers were subjected to forgery as experienced by a colleague.

Most of the puppies are inbred and susceptible to health and temperaments issues.

Check out a groomer at the PTT station along Prachachuen Road. The owners are a couple that both speaks excellent English, and have many contacts which they would readily recommend for free.

    Cheerios

They have 20!!!! different breeds? And that is not considered a puppy farm?

The amount of stress and appeasement signals the GSD gives on the training vdo is painful to watch. Training a dog into obedience can be done with much nicer for the dog training techniques. No need for a tiny choking rope around the neck of the dog.

  6. Dunno.
    I just tried again.

Put sticky in laptop. window pops up indicating formatting. So I say 'yes'. Another window opens:
    Files system:exFAT (default) or NTFS
    I choose now NTFS

Then: "windows cannot complete formatting" and second try: "disk is write protected"

  7. Hi. Please, your advise.

I recently bought a Kingston DataTraveler 100G3 64GB usb sticky for all my vdo's and pictures.

I started copying the first map and that went fine till the last bit. Then I got a notice that is was 'read only'. Most of the map has been copied, just not the last sub-map.

From then on I can't do anything anymore. No copying, no formatting, nothing.

I get the same 'read only' message each time.

    What did I do incorrect?

And how to solve the problem so I can normally use the USB-stick again.

    Thank you in advance.

  8. I proposed the photo idea last week to the friend who's kinda taken the lead.

He himself has suggested Scooby gets castrated.

I myself had Jack the friend dog castrated years ago as he was getting serious injuries taking on packs of dogs outside, and it didn't seem to have any bad effects he is still lively and healthy and vigorous.

But Back to Scooby I've heard that if a habit is already formed castration doesn't work.

    Can anyone comment on that?

(So Sappersrest fact is he is still living there but fact also is something still needs to be done......thanks for your kind interest)

    Definitely have Scooby neutered.

    It will:

    1. stop unwanted puppies and the chain of misery that they, and their puppies etc etc, can face, such as: illness, injury, disability and/or slow death from infectious diseases, road accidents, malnutrition, horrible skin diseases, poisoning, venereal diseases, etc.

    2. stop the high chance on TVT (sexual disease, that unbelievably and horrifically can disfigure Scooby and all the others Scooby mates with),

    3. reduces his testosterone level considerably, and with that his interest in the females, his need to roam, his need to fight for his turn to mate, and the chance on getting involved in a road accident

So, have first his blood tested and, when all is in normal range, have him neutered as soon as possible!

  9. Okay, look at it this way:
a person, who is very confident, will not be bothered by the minor stuff, the screaming yelling scolding of others, by strangers entering his property, talking to his loved ones, etc. . He (quicker he than a she) will give a quick look, check out the situation, shrug the shoulders and let the screamer scream, and continue with whatever he was doing. In case of doubt, he will get up and check it out closer.
A very confident person, walks calm, talks calm, is calm. A very confident person will rather avoid confrontation and prefers to keep the peace.
You can FEEL when a very confident person walks into a room. You KNOW not to confront a person like this.
    Very confident persons are rare.

Now, take an anxious, insecure person. They either talk fast, walk fast, move fast, make themselves obviously bigger, show conflicting signals, react quicker, are quicker insecure about their own 'safety', that of their loved ones and property/territory. They are much quicker in confronting.
Or, they are shy, quiet, and hide quicker. (There is, of course, a lot more to it, but I hope you understand what I am aiming at)

Humans and dogs do not differ much in this.

Dogs checking out strangers suspiciously isn't abnormal behavior, but attacking/biting every foe and friend encountered is not normal.
Abnormal behavior can be a result of several factors: inheritance, prenatal experiences, imprinting, early learning/socialization or lack of it, lack of guidance and boundaries provided by the owners, misunderstanding by the owners of dog behavior development, -cognition and -language, and illness.

Thai Ridgeback dogs have originally been bred to guard, next to hunting and as a companion dog, so it is not surprising that this breed is naturally rather suspicious of strangers. Therefore, proper socialization is an absolute must. Socialization window closes around 3 - 3 1/2 months of age.
The op's dog was given to him when he was several months old. Any idea about the socialization of this dog?
Any idea about the parent dogs? What was/is their physical and mental health? How is the mother dog towards strangers, to familiar people, to other dogs? Where and how was she kept?

When the dog as pup came to the OP's house, how was the behavior? How did the OP and wife dealt with this behavior?
What kind of training did the dog receive from the owners? What kind of training methods used?
How did the owners react when the dog showed suspicion towards strangers before and now?
When the dog did/does something naughty, how did/does the owner dealt/deals with it?

Where was the dog kept? How often did the dog go outside? And how, accompanied or alone?
How much aerobic exercise does the dog receive? How much mental exercise does the dog receive? How often do the owners play with the dog? What kind of games?

What kind of food (dog food brand) is given to the dog?
Any health history of the dog.

How much basic understanding does the OP have on dog behavior development and dog language?
How much understanding does the OP has of classical conditioning and operant conditioning and the 4 quadrants of the operant conditioning? Of desensitization and counter-conditioning?

Trying to 'solve' the problem The Dog Whisperer's way will not chance the dog's worries about strangers. It may suppress the behavior but won't chance it. Also, the dog may 'behave' and look under control, as long as the 'threat' (that will be the owner then) is there. But when the threat is out of sight ... it's free game.
So, this way of training has a high chance of changing the dog in a ticking time-bomb, plus there is an increased chance the dog (who never bit the owner before) will now snap at or, worse, bite the owner out of self-defense.

My first impression is, based on what ecline writes in his Opening post (upon more indebt information, it is possible that this impression chances), there is a chance to modify this dog's behavior. But it will not be the quick fix which always seems to be the case on television. It will need investment, lots of time, lots of patience, willingness to learn to understand the dog and his motivations, that means willingness to learn about the basics of dog behavior development -language learning principles, training techniques. And it involves careful environmental management and designing a carefully planned step-by-little-step training program that can be (and will be) modified whenever necessary.

Euthanizing him now, without having tried to rehab him will not be humane. The vet who is willing to put this dog down now should be ashamed of him or herself and study the oath, that each vet has to make, again.

  10. Dog is just imported so has all necessary jabs and he travel crate with water bottle and tray.

For exporting the dog needs an export permit and health certificate from Animal Quarantine Station, either in Chiang Mai (if the dog checks out of the country in Chiang Mai) or Bangkok (if the dog checks out of the country in Bangkok).

If the dog goes as cargo, your friends can contact a cargo agency for help.
If as accompanied luggage better to pass by the Korean Airline office.
Only know of one family who took their dog back to the US with Korean Air. The dog was alright upon arrival, but they were not completely happy with KA 's service, such as the dog did not have water.

It is also advisable to check if airlines in the US accept pets. During certain months f the year they don't due to hot weather conditions.

  11. Yeah Nienke

I don't know that he will ever lose this habit with strangers making fast approaches.

The good thing is that in the proper environment he doesn't need to.

If he is only living with a limited number of people who all know about him there is no problem.

If he lives only with say one or two or three people who he really knows and no doubt comes to love (same as three or four of us where he lives now, except he cannot be penned into one property so may meet and be approached by strangers), things should be absolutely fine.

He will give a lot of love and appreciation.

e.g. I am happy for him to lick my face.

Oh, but 'm absolutely completely not talking about your dog. Based on what you have written here, I still think with proper desensitization and counter-conditioning, for short DS&CC (which includes love, patience and understanding of dog cognition and language) your dog can learn to trust again.

Your dog has been living on the streets, and actually still is. No wonder he has lost trust in those he doesn't know. You can bet on it he has had his fair share of strangers throwing rocks//stones at him, (threatening to) hitting him, and being in other ways nasty to him. So, he has learned to be quicker than the fast-hand approaching him. Holy crap, how many tv-readers, and people in general, wouldn't do a similar thing? If threatened or attacked you either freeze, flee or fight back! .

Because of you, cheeryble, and a few others this dog has learned that not all humans are bad, but that there can be nice ones as well.

He can learn to generalize this trust in humans.

The only thing he needs is someone who has thrown the outdated and damaging 'leader of the pack/alpha/dominance' theory out of the window, will not correct this self-defense by means of intimidation and punishment, but through DS&CC, and is willing and capable to give this dog the patience, love and understanding he needs. Not difficult at all!

  12. All dogs are rehabilitable - just needs to put into correct environment....

I'm sorry but I do not agree.

Even/Also the popular tv-personality does not have an 100% success-rate.

Some dogs have behavioral changes due medical issues, which sometimes cannot be treated.

Some dogs are mentally so incredibly messed up, it's more humane to them to end their suffering.

And some dogs are too confident, too independent, and plain too dangerous to live in human society. Of course, one can choose to keep a dog like that locked up, muzzled, and only under professional super-vision. But what if that management fails?

  13. Thank you for the suggestions. :)

I passed the Dairy Goat Cafe ( https://www.facebook.com/DairyGoatCafe?fref=ts ) next to Locanda delicious Italian food ( https://www.facebook.com/pages/Locanda-Doi-Saket/482222021818980?fref=ts ) in Doi Saket, hoping they could help.

Turns out the Dairy Goat Cafe, which nowadays is unfortunately only open on Saturdays, and their Dairy Goat Farm are run by 2 vets, husband and wife. So, I got their number. Yippie.

And Oink? He is his usual always hungry self again. Love him to bits. :)

  14. Well, thank goodness, Oink is on the meant again. Doc did come in the end. Couldn't tell what may have caused Oink's tummy pain, though.

I think it may have been too many krathong. That fruit is in season at the moment.

It was nice to see and hear my staff cheering when they saw the otherwise always-hungry-and-happy Pig running towards them for food again. Obviously they were quite worried as well. :)

Still, suggestions and contact details of more life-stock vets in the Doi Saket area are very welcome.

  15. So, my Oink got sick. Yesterday morning still ate, afternoon meal ate half (my staff told me later) and refused to eat his evening meal.
Today same, did not want to eat AND did not want to drink.
Since yesterday morning did not poop. Yesterday evening vomited a little.
Seems to me he has belly pain and walking hurts. He preferred to lie down.
Squirted with syringe water and coconut oil in his mouth.

So, this morning I called the passoosath vet, who seems to live in the next village. He said would come in the early afternoon. At three called again. He said he would come just after 5pm. Called again, and now it's 'in an hour' and 'Chai yin yin'.

Thank God Oink indicated he wanted to eat something about an hour ago, so I gave a bit of piggy dryfood with lots of water, and he ate and drank all. Half an hour later he ate and drank again. Still no poop, though.

So, for the pig-experts two questions:

    1. Any advise what I can do next? (I don't want to give him just any laxative, cause I do not know what is okay for pigs and what not)

    2. Any recommendations for a piggy-veterinarian, preferable in the Doi Saket area, who is a 'tad' faster when you ask for his help (especially when dealing with a non-drinking animal)?

  16. So I tried, so I failed. sad.png

All fields properly filled in except for the middle name cause I have none.

Get message: "for further info go to Imm Branche Office"

Used IE; Chrome does not work.

I guess Bloody Tiger was Bloody Lucky.

Does only seem to be a very low percentage getting through to completion.

Hhm, in that case I can always try later this evening, tomorrow early morning, mid-morning, end-morning, and early afternoon again.

    Fingers crossed! wink.png

Good luck with your online application.

Edit: Oh. Think I got it: "submit application within 15 days and not less than 7 days before due date"

Bummer! Tomorrow is due date. Ah well, have to pass by cargo terminal anyway. So, can combine. smile.png

Didn't see you! Er indoors in and out in 20 minutes, good for Monday afternoon.

I was nr 626, and came in when 602 or 603 was on. Must have been around 2.30pm. :)

Got a nice coffee, a delicious cinnamon roll and a good chat in Dutch. In the meantime my car got cleaned.

I'm allowed to stay for another 90 days, and mini-dog can be send by cargo to her loving owners in the UK from CNX.

So, all in all this afternoon wasn't too bad at all. Supah! :D
