  1. Could anyone recommend a reliable lawyer in Buriram, or somewhere nearby, to write up a simple will. My Thai wife and I only have a few bank accounts, a house, and a Thai equity fund. It shouldn't  take more than 20 minutes to write one up. The local Amphur is unwilling to do it. Some of the lawyers we approached wanted up to 6,000-8000 Baht which I thought was ridiculous. I know there are law firms in Pattaya and Bangkok that do wills for about 1,500 Baht but we would like someone local.

Yes, as it is a Multi-Entry Visa you can exit/re-enter as much as you like/need and at any time during the Visa validity period.  After the 1-year Visa validity period you need a Re-Entry Permit to keep the remaining permission to stay alive.

As mentioned by Gregsmithy it's best to check whether the land-border you are considering for your border-hop does allow same-day exit/entry.  A simple query on the Forum would provide you with the answer.

I'm planning to use the Chong Chom border crossing in Surin. I believe they allow same day exit entry.

  3. I received my first Non-0 multiple entry based on marriage from Laos last November and my first portion or visa is about to run out so I will have to make a quick border crossing, turn around and come back  to Thailand with another 90 day entry. . I am planning to do it all in one afternoon. Does it matter if you leave a few days before the first 90-day visa runs out. What I mean is suppose my first 90 days is up on March 5th. Is there any problem leaving on March 2nd and coming back on March 3rd instead of waiting until March 5th which is the last day of the first 90 day visa. I can't imagine there would be but I just want to be sure.

  4. Once one crosses the border at Chong Chom, I am wondering what the travel options are to Siam Reap. I did a google search and most travel options imply that you are leaving from Surin, meaning the amphur murang, which seems to add a lot of time to the trip. Once I cross the border, I was hoping I'd be able to hop on a minibus or share a taxi for not too much money and get to Siam reap in about 3 hours. Some of the websites claim the trip buy bus from Surin will take more than 10 hours. How could this be I wonder.

  5. I recently got a non-0 multiple entry based on marriage in Laos and will be doing a border crossing, probably in Surin or Ubon, and I am wondering what the requirements are since I have never done this type of border crossing and re-entry with this type of visa. Suppose I go to Chong Chom in Surin. First, I find out when the immigration services on both sides of the border are open. When I get there, I go through Thai Immigration, cross the border, pay a fee for the visa into Cambodia, turn around and come back into Thailand. Is that it?

What if I decide to stay in Cambodia for 3-4 days (or longer). When I go back through Thai immigration, does the next 90 day visa period start when I get back after my 3-4 days or the day I left from Chong Chom.

Instead of going through a border town, I might fly to Vietnam or Penaeng, Malaysia. Just show my passport in and out. No questions asked. And I can stay 2-3 weeks in either country is if want?

What are some border crossing options for a quick, same day in and out?

Chong Chom, Poipet, Chong Mek, Mukdahan. Can you do a border crossing out of Trat? Are some more user friendly than others? Thanks.

He is not saying that. He was referring to applying for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry at immigration based upon qualifying for an extension based upon marriage. It can only be applied for with a tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

The only way you can stay longer is to get a one year extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration. You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 2 months or proof of 40k baht income.

You could of gotten a multiple entry non-o visa that allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date it is issued in Savannakhet Laos.

I am presently married to a Thai national and  last entered Thailand on a 30-day visa exempt entry. I extended that 30 more days. Are you saying that if I go to a Thai immigration office I can apply for and get a 90 day extension based on marriage? I don.t think I am reading this correctly.

  7. As I will soon be returning to Thailand to my wife's village with a recently acquired Non 0 multiple entry based on marriage a heated and ongoing debate has begun in the village where she lives with the local expats giving me a wide variety of options as to what the TM 30 requirements are ranging from  "you don't have to do anything. I've been here for 2 years and have never gone to immigration with a TH 30 nor have I ever done a 90 day" to " your wife better get her butt to immigration with a completed TM 30 as soon as you get back to Thailand or you will both accumulate daily fines." Actually, I had been working and living in Thailand in a distant province (no longer employed)for a number of years and never resided in my wife's house. I rented an apartment and this is the address I used for my 90 day reporting and, more recently, a couple of TH 30's. My wife would come and stay with me once or twice a month for a few weeks and go back to her house, unaccompanied by me. So when I get back to Thailand with my Non 0 my guess is that my wife  should go to the nearby immigration office with a completed TM 30. Should I go with her I wonder? Could I go with the TM 30 instead of her? Should we take marriage certificates and house registration forms as well. Since my previous visas and extensions will have been cancelled, I don't think I will have to do a 90-day report until, well, 90 days after I arrive. Also, I will be needing  to renew my Thai drivers  license within a few weeks and will need proof of address. I am hoping that the local immigration people will be happy to provide me with the necessary documentation. Do I dare ask them for it the same day my wife submits the TM 30?

  8. I can't meet the financial requirements since the 400,000 Baht has to be in the bank for two months prior to applying. I am aware of the single entry or multiple entry non-o visa visa based upon marriage to a Thai  and I am seriously considering that option. Regarding  my questions  about staying in Thailand on tourist visa my question must not have been clear since I am not exactly sure of the names of the various types of visas or extensions. What I meant was that I am presently here on a visa that I never applied  for in advance. I got it stamped in my passport after arriving at the airport. It's good for 30 days. Just before the last day of this visa ( visa exempt entry?) I thought I might try to get a SETV in a neighboring country. But the the non o based on marriage sounds like the most viable and sensible option. Thanks for your info and suggestions.

  9. I am presently in Thailand on a 30-day upon arrival tourist visa. ( I was previously on a Non-B for work). Would I still qualify for a SETV if applying for the visa in a neighboring country (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia). Actually, I want to hang out on a tourist visa in Thailand until I get the correct amount of money in the bank and for the correct duration for either marriage extension or a retirement extension. And if I applied for another 30-day extension in country after my initial 30-day upon arrival expires ( I am assuming that I would get a 30 day extension in Thailand) would I still qualify for a SETV? Even after two 30-day tourist visas? Thanks.

  10. I already have government insurance. A fee is deducted from my bank account every month for the coverage. I wonder if this insurance is adequate or meets the requirements for the compulsory insurance for O-A applicants and what evidence I would need to show that I am covered. The social services office no longer renew one's insurance card. Instead, I was told that you just show your passport when going to the hospital and your passport number is in the system. Of course, this insurance only applies to the province you live in although you are covered for emergency situations in other provinces. I would like to know how I could find out or what evidence I would need to show that I have legitimate health insurance.

  11. I am planning to ask for an extension of a 30-day visa upon arrival (my first) at CW or Jomthien. ( I am assuming I can get another 30-day extension )I read on this forum that Jomthien, when applying for an extension,  have asked for a TM 30 if you have not been registered in a hotel. Is that possible? TM 30's required for tourists? I've been wondering around the countryside and a few of the places I have stayed at did not ask for my passport.

  12. I will need to renew my drivers licence and will need proof of address for that. If I go to immigration asking for proof of address for my drivers licence renewal I suspect they will notice that I have never filed a TM 30 or initiated 90-day reporting. Of course, I can probably get proof of address from my embassy and that would be valid for the drivers licence renewal.

  13. I am planning to do a Non-0 based on marriage in Suwanakhet, Laos. I recently completed a 1-year contract with a Non-B. On the 3rd last day of the contract, I went to Panaeng and came back to Thailand and got a 30-day tourist visa at the airport (not sure what it is called but they just stamped my passport with no questions asked). At the end of my 30-day tourist visa, I am going to Suwanakhaet to apply for a Non-O based on marriage (I think I have all of the required documents). When I arrive back in Thailand, my guess is that I have to high tail it to the local immigartion office with a TM 30. I am wondering if my wife has to go with me because we will be living in her house. Additionally, should I or must I start the 90-day reporting then. I am also wondring if they will ask me about where I was staying while I was here on my 30-day  tourist visa. If I must do  TM 30 as soon as I get back, what docements should i tak with me. Copies of my wife's blue book, ID. Thanks

Before giving you firm advice, we need to know what you really have that you are describing as a "Non B visa". People can mean

    • A multiple entry Non B visa that is expiring shortly. In that case, your best bet could be to do a border bounce, immediately returning to get a final 90-day permission to stay allowed by your visa.
    • A single entry Non B visa, with the 90-day permission to stay ending shortly. In that case, your current plan is fine without modification.
    • An extension of your original permission to stay based on working that ends shortly. In that case, as @ubonjoe tried to warn you, a visit to immigration with a letter from your employer in hand to formally end your permission to stay based on working as of your last day of employment is advisable. At land crossings, they will sometimes refuse to stamp you out without either a terminated extension or a re-entry permit.
    • A work permit that is expiring. If you are in Thailand on an entry from a visa, this is irrelevant. If you are on an extension based on working, the extended permission to stay should be terminated as outlined above.

Well,  my Non-B was for work. I got my first one three years ago and it was extended every year for one year,  it it has been extended every year for one year for the last 3 years. But I am not going to continue with my job. I am not sure what you mean by a '90-day permission to stay'. My extensions were all for one year. I had to go to immigration every year with a pile of documents to have the Non-B extended for one year because my contract was for one year. Sorry if I am not clarifying my situation very well. I will be exiting the country on my last day of employment. There is no more time left because my visa and contract will expire on the same day that I want to exit the country. If I stayed another day it would be an overstay. My boss doesn't seem to know what I am talking about when I asked her for a letter to present to immigration.

They will not ask for ticket out of the country at that crossing. It is seldom asked for at other crossings.

Same for showing 10k baht in cash (visa exempt entry requirement).

If you actually have a extension of stay issued by immigration and not a 90 day entry from a non-b visa they may asked to see a termination letter a the Mukdahan crossing before you leave the country.

Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure I follow. I will be leaving Thailand (probably at Muktahan) on the last day of the Non-B visa.  It expires that day. My contract finishes that day. I don't know why I would need a termination letter. Under these circumstances do you think they will still ask me for a termination letter. Do I get that from my employer or from immigration. Does the termination letter need official stamps? Otherwise anyone could write one. I suspect the termination letter should be in Thai. Thanks for your time.

  16. I am not sure I follow despite your fine replies. I might not have explained my self very well. My Non-B( for work) expires  in 2 days. On the last day, the day it expires, I am going to exit Thailand at one of many border crossings. I might stay in Laos or Cambodia for a few days. I then plan to come back to Thailand at a border crossing and, since I am an American, I am assuming I will get a visa stamped upon arrival. I believe you can get 30 days for this visa upon arrival. I am wondering if they will deny me entry if I don't show an ongoing air ticket. Then I thought they might ask me to show that I have 20,000 Baht with me. I thought the 20,000 might be substituted for an air ticket. I don't want to buy an ongoing ticket because I don't know where I am going to next. Thanks for your replies.

  17. I am leaving Thailand for Laos for a few days and hope to return to Thailand on a tourist visa (30-day) at Muktahan border crossing Would Thai Immigration need to see an ongoing air ticket? Would having 20,000 Baht in my wallet be OK instead of a ticket. Actually, I am leaving on the last day of my Non-B visa which will expire the day I leave. But just want  a few weeks to figure out what i want to do.
