Sorry if this has been already been dealt with at length. If I went to Suwanakhaet, Laos to apply for a Non O based on marriage on Monday Oct. 28th, and was able to pick my passport up on Tuesday and cross the border into Thailand on Tuesday Oct 29th, I would not need insurance. Is that a correct assumption. I have heard otherwise.

What exactly is needed to apply for this extension. Marriage certificate (original?), wife's house registration, wife's ID card, all signed by her. Any exisiting visa requirements? Must she accompany me to immigration? Thanks.

I can't meet the financial requirements since the 400,000 Baht has to be in the bank for two months prior to applying. I am aware of the single entry or multiple entry non-o visa visa based upon marriage to a Thai and I am seriously considering that option. Regarding my questions about staying in Thailand on tourist visa my question must not have been clear since I am not exactly sure of the names of the various types of visas or extensions. What I meant was that I am presently here on a visa that I never applied for in advance. I got it stamped in my passport after arriving at the airport. It's good for 30 days. Just before the last day of this visa ( visa exempt entry?) I thought I might try to get a SETV in a neighboring country. But the the non o based on marriage sounds like the most viable and sensible option. Thanks for your info and suggestions.

I am presently in Thailand on a 30-day upon arrival tourist visa. ( I was previously on a Non-B for work). Would I still qualify for a SETV if applying for the visa in a neighboring country (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia). Actually, I want to hang out on a tourist visa in Thailand until I get the correct amount of money in the bank and for the correct duration for either marriage extension or a retirement extension. And if I applied for another 30-day extension in country after my initial 30-day upon arrival expires ( I am assuming that I would get a 30 day extension in Thailand) would I still qualify for a SETV? Even after two 30-day tourist visas? Thanks.

I might be going to Savannakhet for a Non-O based on marriage. If I submit my application Thur. morning would it definitely be ready for pick up Fri. afternoon? The Wed. before is a Thai holiday and I believe the Thai Consulate will be closed. Otherwise, I would submit the application on that Wed.

This is a great way to encourage tourism.

I already have government insurance. A fee is deducted from my bank account every month for the coverage. I wonder if this insurance is adequate or meets the requirements for the compulsory insurance for O-A applicants and what evidence I would need to show that I am covered. The social services office no longer renew one's insurance card. Instead, I was told that you just show your passport when going to the hospital and your passport number is in the system. Of course, this insurance only applies to the province you live in although you are covered for emergency situations in other provinces. I would like to know how I could find out or what evidence I would need to show that I have legitimate health insurance.

I am planning to ask for an extension of a 30-day visa upon arrival (my first) at CW or Jomthien. ( I am assuming I can get another 30-day extension )I read on this forum that Jomthien, when applying for an extension, have asked for a TM 30 if you have not been registered in a hotel. Is that possible? TM 30's required for tourists? I've been wondering around the countryside and a few of the places I have stayed at did not ask for my passport.

I will need to renew my drivers licence and will need proof of address for that. If I go to immigration asking for proof of address for my drivers licence renewal I suspect they will notice that I have never filed a TM 30 or initiated 90-day reporting. Of course, I can probably get proof of address from my embassy and that would be valid for the drivers licence renewal.

Wouldn't my wife have to go to immigration with a TM 30 since it her house where I will be staying and she is the owner of the house?

I am planning to do a Non-0 based on marriage in Suwanakhet, Laos. I recently completed a 1-year contract with a Non-B. On the 3rd last day of the contract, I went to Panaeng and came back to Thailand and got a 30-day tourist visa at the airport (not sure what it is called but they just stamped my passport with no questions asked). At the end of my 30-day tourist visa, I am going to Suwanakhaet to apply for a Non-O based on marriage (I think I have all of the required documents). When I arrive back in Thailand, my guess is that I have to high tail it to the local immigartion office with a TM 30. I am wondering if my wife has to go with me because we will be living in her house. Additionally, should I or must I start the 90-day reporting then. I am also wondring if they will ask me about where I was staying while I was here on my 30-day tourist visa. If I must do TM 30 as soon as I get back, what docements should i tak with me. Copies of my wife's blue book, ID. Thanks

No sound on my laptop. It is driving me crazy. I had it repaired yesterday because I couldn't connect to my wi-fi but my cell phone could. The repair shop saved all my data, downloads etc and then downloaded new windows I think. When I got home the wi-fi connection is excellent but absolutely no sound for any of my audio downloads or you tube. Actually, I got sound last night after I made I fooled around and made VLC media player my default player. I don't know what I did but the sound worked on everything but this morning after I turned on my laptop absolutely no sound for anything. I have checked the obvious tool bar sound and it is not mute. I have no idea how I got the sound to work last night and can't understand why it stopped working after I turned off my computer last night. Obviously I am a complete novice with any computer tech stuff. Thanks.

If I fly into Bangkok hoping to get a tourist stamp on arrival will I definitely need to show an on going air ticket. Would the 20,000 baht suffice in lieu of a ticket. Endless questions these days with immigration they way it has become.

Before giving you firm advice, we need to know what you really have that you are describing as a "Non B visa". People can mean
- A multiple entry Non B visa that is expiring shortly. In that case, your best bet could be to do a border bounce, immediately returning to get a final 90-day permission to stay allowed by your visa.
- A single entry Non B visa, with the 90-day permission to stay ending shortly. In that case, your current plan is fine without modification.
- An extension of your original permission to stay based on working that ends shortly. In that case, as @ubonjoe tried to warn you, a visit to immigration with a letter from your employer in hand to formally end your permission to stay based on working as of your last day of employment is advisable. At land crossings, they will sometimes refuse to stamp you out without either a terminated extension or a re-entry permit.
- A work permit that is expiring. If you are in Thailand on an entry from a visa, this is irrelevant. If you are on an extension based on working, the extended permission to stay should be terminated as outlined above.
Well, my Non-B was for work. I got my first one three years ago and it was extended every year for one year, it it has been extended every year for one year for the last 3 years. But I am not going to continue with my job. I am not sure what you mean by a '90-day permission to stay'. My extensions were all for one year. I had to go to immigration every year with a pile of documents to have the Non-B extended for one year because my contract was for one year. Sorry if I am not clarifying my situation very well. I will be exiting the country on my last day of employment. There is no more time left because my visa and contract will expire on the same day that I want to exit the country. If I stayed another day it would be an overstay. My boss doesn't seem to know what I am talking about when I asked her for a letter to present to immigration.

They will not ask for ticket out of the country at that crossing. It is seldom asked for at other crossings.
Same for showing 10k baht in cash (visa exempt entry requirement).
If you actually have a extension of stay issued by immigration and not a 90 day entry from a non-b visa they may asked to see a termination letter a the Mukdahan crossing before you leave the country.
Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure I follow. I will be leaving Thailand (probably at Muktahan) on the last day of the Non-B visa. It expires that day. My contract finishes that day. I don't know why I would need a termination letter. Under these circumstances do you think they will still ask me for a termination letter. Do I get that from my employer or from immigration. Does the termination letter need official stamps? Otherwise anyone could write one. I suspect the termination letter should be in Thai. Thanks for your time.

I am not sure I follow despite your fine replies. I might not have explained my self very well. My Non-B( for work) expires in 2 days. On the last day, the day it expires, I am going to exit Thailand at one of many border crossings. I might stay in Laos or Cambodia for a few days. I then plan to come back to Thailand at a border crossing and, since I am an American, I am assuming I will get a visa stamped upon arrival. I believe you can get 30 days for this visa upon arrival. I am wondering if they will deny me entry if I don't show an ongoing air ticket. Then I thought they might ask me to show that I have 20,000 Baht with me. I thought the 20,000 might be substituted for an air ticket. I don't want to buy an ongoing ticket because I don't know where I am going to next. Thanks for your replies.

I am leaving Thailand for Laos for a few days and hope to return to Thailand on a tourist visa (30-day) at Muktahan border crossing Would Thai Immigration need to see an ongoing air ticket? Would having 20,000 Baht in my wallet be OK instead of a ticket. Actually, I am leaving on the last day of my Non-B visa which will expire the day I leave. But just want a few weeks to figure out what i want to do.

So if my wife files a TM 30 showing that I am staying at her house, anytime I go to another province for more than 24 hours she will have to take the 70 kilometer trip to the immigration office and give them the TM 30. But I don't have to do any reporting myself because I'll have to leave the country every 90 days in which case I'll be leaving few days early. So I will not have been here the full 90 days. This all sounds a little bit problematic or fishy. I can't help but think that eventually immigration are going to want to know why I haven't been filing a 90-day report.

I have just completed a contract in Thailand and will be going to Laos to get a Non-O visa based on marriage. I lived near the company I worked for and rented a small house . I did my 90-day reporting in the province where I worked using the address of the house I rented. My Thai wife (we are legally married) would sometimes stay with me but usually stayed in her own house in a nearby province. When I come back into Thailand with my Non-0 based on marriage, I am going to move into my wife's house on a permanent basis. Since it is my wife's house I will be living in, I am wondering if I have up to 90 days before I have to submit my first 90- report and would my wife have to accompany me with her blue book and other ID? Or would I be required to get to the immigration office as soon as I get back into Thailand with my newly acquired Non-0 . And could I just take signed copies of my wife's ID and blue book as proof of address without her accompanying me?

Our house was built many years ago upcountry. It's quite old now but land value has risen significantly since we built the house 20 years ago. I am semi-retired now and we are both living in the house. She told me no one would bother me if I wanted continue to live there in the event that she passes away before me. I was told (and don't necessarily believe it) that since we are legally married I have a right to live in the house if she should pass before me. But I cannot sell it or leave it to anyone when I die. I am not all that bothered about who gets it when I die. I guess the best thing is to update the will. When I ask my wife who she would like to leave the house to when she dies she seems totally non committed. ( we have no kids) She said possibly one of her nieces but her relatives all live in other parts of the country and we rarely see them.

In the event of my Thai wife's death (we are legally married) I was wondering what I can do with the house. I know I have a legal right to live in the house after her death but who gets it when I pass. I don't think I am allowed to sell it if I don't want to live there and I have been told I have no right to leave it to anyone. My wife isn't too eager to leave it to anyone in her family (both parents are dead). We have a will but the house isn't included.

Why do you think I should stop seeding? It is part of the deal. I'm on 'torrentday' and you have to seed or you get kicked off.
-
I am wondering if my torrents are still seeding after I have put the PC in the 'When plugged in, computer goes to sleep after 2 hours etc.' mode. And if I put the PC in the
'When plugged in (screen) will turn off after ten minutes, etc' Still seeding? Thanks.

So what will this insurance cost the average expat per year? Any estimates. I wonder if those expats who already have government insurance and pay monthly for the privilege (which covers everything until death)will be exempt.

Does the wife have to be with you when you initially submit your first TM 30 or 90 day report I wonder?
