  2. Third world politics and police and infrastructure.. (except first world shopping Malls)  life threatening pavements , so few pedestrian crossings ,  bad food... yes... for the majority eating throwaway offal and momma soup daily... This country is a living lie ! Wonderful street food with zero hygiene and luck of the draw will you ,won’t you , get sick from whatever be it food or dirt that’s everywhere.  No prostitution officially and vast numbers of tourists coming to it for sex holidays . 7000 deaths on the roads so far-this year  and yet no enforcement of safety laws .. except smoking on the beach in Pattaya and no vaping as it’s much more dangerous .. to the economy ... than tobacco. And they dare to question your presence in the place... they should be handing out garlands a la Hawaii to the brave travelers who grace the country with their presence and money.

As you can gather , I’ve had enough. Gonna find somewhere more dare I say it , civilised to visit .

  3. I misread the headline and thought it said first and last visit to Pattaya. That’s why I read it because I have just left Pattaya after too many visits and have vowed never to return because of the dirt and pollution and explosion of visitors of certain ethnicity who are contributing to the negative effect Pattaya is having on me. When I’m confronted with signs in a moderately expensive hotel telling me not to spit I realised that the end was nigh ... for me...

Hahaha the photo reminds me of a bust back in the day of a pub that used to show blue movies on a Sunday lunchtime after stop tap ( remember those days 12:00 till 14:00 ) .. As Plod were piling in thru the front half the patrons escaped out the back thru' a fire door the old bill had failed to notice at the rear of the building ..

My local in Dublin got strippers in for the Sunday morning session. The word spread and the place was suddenly jammed on Sunday mornings . Where was this pub located ? Next door to the Garda Station ! The Strip Sunday lasted a month !

I think you will see an increase in

Chinese, Spitting and pooping on the side walks.

The rest will be much the same.

    Is Pattaya dead.

    No.

I have just returned from Pattaya and I visit 4 times a year ,but I’m finished now . It’s in bits, despite fireworks and the likes , it was exciting but the dirt and pollution are so noticeable now and dare I say it the older less attractive ladies hanging out of every bar scaring the punters away rather

than attracting them in. Always eating , getting fatter and still expecting to get a customer .. bless them all . And yes, the Chinese and Indians get on my nerves with their behavior . It’s a disgrace to be confronted with signs everywhere in the hotel telling me not to spit. This is most assuredly aimed ,no pun intended , at one nationality that seem to like this hotel ,unfortunately for me and my lady.

Foreign nations ought to charge a 400% tariff on Thai rice, shrimp, beer, and auto parts.

It’s about time some countries started to reciprocate the taxes charged on imported goods to Thailand. Of course as usual Thai powers that be do not think of or calculate the number of “ never come back” visitors they lose by way of overpriced and crap tasting wines. Thai wine is disgusting... and cheap.. my brother , my son, and their families have never returned even though they are well off.. the selection and prices of wines and the ban on vaping were the first things they quoted as deciding factors . I do not drink alcohol these days, so I’m not concerned but if, as in the old days, I was a wine lover, I would stay away. As it is the high prices being charged for substandard Farang Food is making me think that maybe this country is past its sell by date for me.

  7. After too many substandard overpriced trips , up to 4 or 5 months a year for 5 years now, and with the ladies getting less enticing and more demanding and somehow less pretty , the best way to spend my money now is anywhere else except LOS. Totally lost faith and interest and now see it for what it really is , sadly. It’s not a vindictive post and I regret coming to this realistic decision.

    Stomach turning

Yes indeed .. 5 mins 200 bht.. I used to annoy them by asking the fares to.. wherever.. and laughing at them and walking away.. no intention of going anywhere , just for the craic. Especially as you say while they are just standing around with no business because they will not reduce the stress excessive fares .

  9. I have given up going to Samui because of the overcharging for everything but the taxis and Bangkok Air are the worst offenders and rip off artists. Of course it’s a mafia and there is no desire to interfere with it. It could all be changed overnight but it will not happen. I hope the deep pocket visitors continue to be taken for the eejits they are. Hasta La Vista Samui.

As was and still is the case in London or Dublin , not to omit my own country, the Grenfell Tower tragedy was woefully dealt with by London Fire Brigade and quote " contributed to the many deaths" . Sympathies to the families of the bereaved .

people burning their trash right next to the street.

I have visited Udon Thani twice this year and as a Regular Tourist in Thailand was curious about the "witches pots" outside a lot of premises on the pavement that looked like they were for burning rubbish . Is this what they are for , as I actually never saw anyone burning anything in them ? It struck me as odd that this would be allowed, but it's Thailand of course

Jeez, how pathetic if you can't manage 24 hours without alcohol....

Much more to it than that... I haven't drank in 20 years but I love watching sport in a bar ... including the sport of mongering ... all I saw last Saturday night were dark empty streets.. Soi's without any life going on and people who sell food on the Soi making no income .. girls without customers, and Farang with money and no where to spend it .. I missed seeing the 6 nations rugby matches and the premiership games ... nothing to do with alcohol for me but a major let down on a Saturday night in Pattaya ...

or can't plan ahead if you cannot manage 24 hours without alcohol...

Last weekend I was amused by the tourists wondering why all the bars were closed and the Soi's empty and dark. I was amused because the powers that be should know that any Thai who wanted to drink would be drinking and any tourist encountering this situation would be saying " never again" , or at least considering a different destination next time . The authorities are footless... the feet have long been amputated from all the shooting oneself in the foot that goes on in the LOS . I do not drink so I couldn't care less ... oh... wait ... the bars are closed ... no sports bars ... and my team is playing ... what the hell am I gonna do... .. Nanny State. ... except it's not ...

  14. All you judges and jurors and experts must be waiting excitedly for every new tragedy. Taking a story from any Thai media source is dodgy at the best of times , but layering it with the instant judgements some of you lot carelessly toss out makes it appalling . Half the exPats I meet in my frequent visits to Thailand are nuts anyway from living in Thailand and it's easy to understand why,  but giving a platform to some of them to cast judgment and become instant experts on everything is unadvisable.

May those young ladies Rest In Peace .. their suffering is over , but for their families the pain of loss is beyond bearing.

I think Vietnam or Cambo WiFi speed is not up to par Thailand for digital nomad to work efficiently. Portugal or Spain would be the best.

Ah now hold on ... there's a massive difference between living in the Iberian Penninsula and South East Asia... cost of living,  and climate being the obvious ones. It's cold in Spain and colder in Portugal in the winter time. Go out and eat in those countries as see what you pay as against Thailand,Vietnam or Cambodia... and as for the ladies ... well we won't discuss that here.

i assume you don't have a thai wife ?  did you mention a thai GF ?  i've always thought it was best to say no wife, no GF.  just a tourist coming to see the sites, enjoy the warm weather, food, etc...

did the IO suggest getting tourist visa's in the future, even though your trips are less than 30 days ?

I don't have a GF or a Thai Wife.. I'm an old Butterfy.. well that's what a Thai girl told me a long time ago when she tried to put me in a Velvet Cage and train me to bark and wag my tail when she spoke ! ... lol ...
