Somewhat incorrect. I (and my Thai wife) lived and worked....me, not her... In Hong Kong for 15 years. After 7 years we could, and did, apply for PERMANENT HONG KONG RESIDENCE. (1 x A4 application form and 5 minutes interview ) Although we have a house and (me) yearly marriage extensions in northern Bangkok, we are able to come and live/work forever in Hong Kong, enjoying the near free medical facilities and services etc. No money in the bank required, or 90 day reports. No annual (or ever) visits to /from Immigration dep So, there are SOME places where you can do it!!

Thailand Immigration
orchidfan replied to KayDeeDee's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I'm on marriage extension. My Thai wife is away working as a chef 9/10ths of the year.... B100,000 per month. She does NOT have to be living with you. Just comes back to do the annual extension and home visit (mandatory in Pathum Thani). Of course I do the 2hr flight to visit her on a regular basis. She has permanent Residence there so no financial requirements, medical virtually free, polite English speaking people, no Immigration bs (I'm PR there too,) trains buses ferries etc run exactly on time, traffic obeys all the road rules etc etc . As she says, "why would I work in crazy Bangkok for?) -
Same as there and their and they're. All sound similar but TOTALLY different meanings. I guess it comes down to early education ????

Thai PM pledges “heart-to-heart” cooperation with the US
orchidfan replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes exactly. That how my Thai wife and I both have Permanent HKID....just 7 years living there, apply and you've got it.(oh you have to declare that you plan to make Hong Kong your home etc) . But NO monetary requirements or future reporting or visits to / immigration. Virtually free medical. The way it should be ! -
I recall a cross border visit on the close Cambodian border.....back in the day before 12 month extensions... My wife being Thai was an avid gambler and so off we went to a Blackjack table at the "very available" nearby legal Cambodian casino. Luckily we were accompanied by a Thai copper (friend ) who worked at the border (Imm). She kept winning......I couldn't believe it! (She a Macao addict ) At 20,000 baht up, our "friend" politely suggested we should "leave now" ..... wife protesting of course, but I told her, "we're out of here" ..... and we did with the 20k and still alive.

Dr Jack, I like, and appreciate most of your helpful comments and advice.. But my imm office (PT) do NOT require the 400k to still be in the bank during the " under consideration period " (marriage ext). So with great respec, I would suggest that you qualify this that "certain" IO may demand it. It is NOT a written requirement. But perhaps CW is one of those (as you often refer to) as a rogue outfit. Cheers

New Australian Passport
orchidfan replied to brianthainess's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
My past experience setting up an Oz bank account for my Thai wife required all the same certified "proof of identity" . Basically notarised copy of her password done by the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. So don't think changing banks would help. So I'll just do the same with my passport and EMS it to Oz. Funny thing is the mailing address given is a "Reply paid *******, Adelaide, Australia 5001" I hope EMS can understand that address ??? -
New Australian Passport
orchidfan replied to brianthainess's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Thanks, I'll try the mail in option 2 or so months before expiry. My 2023 extension of stay (marriage) will also terminate same day as my passport expires....from what I understand. So I need to have the new one.in hand to transfer the stamps and/submit everything for the next extension. -

This Oz bank made it quite clear in their email.that IF I didn't provide the requested "proof of ID", but Oct 20th, all services (internet, mobile app, ATM etc) would be suspended (except inward deposits and loan repayments !). My fortnightly pension goes into this account and I transfer it via WISE to my thai bank. I gave them a call this morning to point out that I couldn't "pop in" to my local branch, and that of the list of acceptable persons they list for overseas customers, basically ONLY the Embassy /Consulate notorial would work. Also getting this done (let alone the costs) and sending to them by EMS or Registered mail by Oct 20th was probably impossible. They have kindly given me an extension until Nov. 5th. Big of them! No form of electronic submissions are accepted ((email attachments etc). -

Thanks for that link Will. It means saving 2 long trips to the Embassy for the new passport later this year and more urgently, a certified copy of my (current) passport now being required by my Australian bank to "confirm my ID" (after having and operated the account for over 17 years !) -
I agree entirely. My immigration office at Pathum Thani never ask about the 400K when I go for the stamp after 1 month "under consideration " period. But I do get the bank to print out 3 months of prior statements at application time. As Dr Jack says (often) it is probably wise to just keep it there until you get the 1yr extension stamp. As always, it depends on the office you're dealing.g with.

New Australian Passport

Thanks for the post. I need to renew mine due mid December 2023. So, from what you've said @brianthainess I should download and fill in the application form and submit in person to Oz Embassy (consulate ?) In Bangkok greater than 8 weeks prior to expiry date. I stopped my scooter for a woman gingerly crossing a newly installed zebra crossing on my way home yesterday. The car behind nearly ran into me and gave me good blast of his horn. The lady gave me a bow and a wei. After she crossed, the car behind pulled out and tore past me only after to have to stop at the next crossroad 50mtrs down the road! Where I passed him. Idiot !

90 day report blues....or maybe not?
orchidfan replied to Toolong's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, this is the email address I use to contact Pathum Thani immigration. From memory it's at the top of the application form online. It certainly works for me, but accept that every office is different ! -
90 day report blues....or maybe not?
orchidfan replied to Toolong's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I'm pretty sure it has to be received, checked and replied to by the Immigration office you deal with. In my case Pathum Thani. So it's up to someone there to process it (ie. Not done by a robot computer ). But as mentioned, when it gets close to deadline, I shoot them off a polite email enquiring about its progress. Usually get the Approved email in a couple of hours. PT office is only a 15 minute drive (in normal traffic) but that office and the roads can be crowded and busy. No thanks, I'll stick with Online, but as DrJack has suggested, do it immediately after receiving the reminder email. Hope your approval has come through ? -
90 day report blues....or maybe not?
orchidfan replied to Toolong's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As I've mentioned in a previous post recently. I waited 4 days (including weekend) to get the final Approved email. BUT, this was only after emailing (not calling) to my local IO in Pathum Thani, quoting the Reference number and date of submission (copied and pasted from their Receipt of Submission email) yesterday on Monday requesting confirmation that it WAS accepted. About an hour after this email came through the Accepted email and new 90days report date. Seems I have to do this "request email" almost every time after an online 90day report. -
90 day report timeframe question
orchidfan replied to keysersoze276's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
When I first registered for the "new" online system, they sent a password by email. This worked for the first report but not for the second, therein starting the chain of new passwords every new login. Wierd! But it's quick and easy to change the password. Mind you, the latest new password user last Wednesday DID work for logging on, on Monday to check the progress. We'll see what happens next this coming December ! -
90 day report timeframe question
orchidfan replied to keysersoze276's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just a couple of quick observations re Online reporting, which I have been using successfully for over a year. 1. Every time I try to log on for a new report (roughly 80 to 90 days after last report) the site comes up with "incorrect password" and I have to reset it. Simple enough to do, but don't understand this glitch (I use a desktop computer for this task and passwords/logins.are saved to Google ) 2. After submitting last Wednesday I received the acknowledgment of receipt email. But then until mid Monday, it was still "Pending". So shot off an email to Pathum Thani immigration with a cut and paste from their email of transaction number etc etc. About an hour later I got the Approval email and attachments (PDFs.....one click to open) I've had to send this "Dear Sir/Madam" email every time for the past 3 reports! They seem to need to be jogged into processing my online submissions. (I have a saved proforma email to them for this purpose, only changing the specific details each time) Clearly, the members who report getting a very quick Approved email are dealing with a different IO to mine ! The deadline date was tomorrow Wednesday, so I was getting twitchy. I think I'll follow your advice in future and send it off as soon as I get the reminder email. Less worry about their slow response time! -
More than 4,900 households in Pathum Thani flooded
orchidfan replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Here in Rangsit, Thanyaburi... Many places about 30cm odd deep for the last 2 days but today subsiding gradually. Was the same as poster above under 1m+ stinking leech infested water for 3 months. Had to eventually give up a.d retreat by boat to condo in On Nut.
