  1. Slightly off topic, but was waiting for a return flight from Isaan to DMK...think it was Thai airways, but low and behold in rolls a Royal Bhutan A320. We made it ok. Guess it was borrowed or wet leased. Made me wonder why in earth they had to do that ???
  2. I just love the way you write perfect English ... not many Americans can. Great story, well written and with a Thai wife for over 20yrs, I fully understand how it goes. RULES: Don't admire another lady (especially one she's brought to climax in a previous playtime ) or bring up her losing thousands gambling. (It's all in the past, don't talk about it ) Good luck mate.
  3. My local favorite 711 was out of Tappers beer for a week or two. Manager said it was supply chain,or something. So it was Cheers Extra. Then, low and behold today, the chiller fridge is full of Tappers. There is a God ????. Otherwise no local shortages around here (Rangsit ). Locals seem happy with streetside fish balls, bbq chicken and sausages on sticks! 10B a stick. Cheaper than KFC or McCrap
  4. Thanks, I did wonder, having taken a couple of expensive years to earn mine???? . And the coppers and immigration officers ?how did they earn theirs ? (Rhetorical question )
  5. Once I was a week or so late waiting for the Approved status on an online submission. Luckily I had printed out the Pending statement. The slightly bitchy IO officer gave me a full on lecture about Pending not means Approved. Then said "I could fine you 2000" ...but didn't. "I let you off this time" Now always have the 90 day date in my phone's calendar with a warning notification set a week before.
  6. Although I have an atm card for Local BB and overseas account, which the Mrs could use, I recently took her to the local branch (now closed and outside machines "out of service " due to covid) to get her as a registered signatory to the savings account which holds my immigration money...because, being over 70, unvaccinated etc, I wanted her to be able to access it if i kick the bucket. However she knows very well the importance of keeping the required money in there for annual extensions. Btw, she provides the 400k from her business to leap through that hoop annually.
  7. Just saw a live video from the Shinjuku nightlife area of Tokyo. Everyone wearing masks, but everything open.....restaurants, bars, nightclubs, entertainment centers etc. Literally hundreds of people on the streets, the girls in their fairy maids uniforms or school outfits soliciting customers. Knowing Shinjuku, it was probably 50% "full", but still bustling. People working and others out enjoying themselves. Japan's population about 126mill, and latest I read around 14000 new infections per day (new peak), 40+% of population vaccinated. Yes, I know this discussion is about Thailand not Japan, but was an interesting insight into opening up and minimizing lockdowns.....at least for the time being there.
  8. I recall asking a Philippino maid in HK why she and her mates loved (then) president Marcos so much as he was so obviously corrupt (and rich)? She replied that ALL Philippine politicians and government officials were corrupt, but He helped the people and better than most !
  9. And don't forget that it was during his time as PM the 11 to 2pm and after 5pm rule came in for alcohol sales. But that directive may have come from up higher.?? In most other countries stopping alcohol sales to underage people is handled by using their ID card. Every Thai carries and ID card.
  10. As I recall, the back view of her was as cute as the front view ????. A far cry from the current mob.
  11. Yes, you're right. Thailand is still classed in group B (medium risk). How that is I don't know, but fully vaccinated and positive antibody test might only be quarantined for 7 days. They keep changing the rules, like everywhere, weekly. I want to go back for a short visit at least....but need 2 jabs first. Still waiting !
  12. As a Permanent HK Resident, am pretty sure that they were /are only offering Sinovac or Pfizer. So he probably got Sinovac ? My wife who's working there (also permanent HKID status ) got Pfizer. Free and easy. Problem will be returning to HK, which lists Thailand in the Highly Dangerous category. As another poster mentioned...2 or 3 weeks quarantine on return.
  13. Hong Kong has announced that they will again start taking in "domestic helpers" from Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. But thitk they ha5 to e vaccinated , tested and quarantined. Also ability to speak some Cantonese or mandarin is an advantage. The local and expat ladies with money just HAVE to have someone to do that pesky cleaning, shopping, cooking and looking after their kids.
  14. Hope you're right. I've done the MFA Registration and was really hoping NOT to have to go to Bangsue 45 minutes away by taxi. Not to mention the crowds there.
  15. Yes agreed. How come the "Free Trade agreement " still results in huge duty/tariffs being imposed on imports of wine from Australia ???
  16. Can one of you financial wizards explain to me the difference between "cashflow" (referred to in the article ) and "revenue"? Or are they the same thing from an accounting point of view ?
