Exploration of the Virgin Birth That Maybe Wasn’t
Unify replied to Social Media's topic in Off the beaten track
If the virgin birth means placing sperm but no penetration, it's not much of a miracle, is it? -
Are retirees moving to the new DTV visa - anybody done it?
Unify replied to Scouse123's topic in General Topics
I suspect immigration will want you to prove you are still engaged in the activity you signed up for, in order to extend. So, a two- week cooking class, or a couple of medical appointments might not do. We'll see. If you travel in and out of Thailand regularly, or semi-regularly, the DTV would seem to be a good option. If you stay in Thailand most of the time, you're just making yourself take more trips -- either to immigration, or out of the country. Also, the DTV does not require you to apply from your country of origin. You can apply from any number of nearby countries. -
Some advice/opinions please on moving to Hua Hin
Unify replied to delgarcon's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
How far south do you have to go to get out of the air pollution zone? -
Air pollution is a risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and dementia, as well as the obvious lung cancer and emphysema. Just because someone isn't experiencing obvious symptoms now, or it doesn't bother them now, doesn't mean it's safe.

Problem with Dee Money
Unify replied to fusion58's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'm still waiting for a transfer from August 1st. According to Dee, the money has been released to their partner, and they're waiting for them to get the funds to me. I will avoid them in the future. I have no knowledge of their solvency, at all -- so the following is complete conjecture. If they were robbing Peter to pay Paul, this is how it would look. They are regulated by the bank of Thailand. -

Thai herbs: Nature’s secret weapon against deadly PM2.5 dust
Unify replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I read a long thread in a fb expat group the other day. Someone was asking about cough remedies. A few others chimed in and complained they had coughs lately. Nobody connected it to the rising level of pollution these last few weeks. I suspect it's largely the same demographic that says sit pollution doesn't bother them. Lung cancer, heart disease, stroke and dementia are increased by air pollution, and you don't always have advance warning. I do what I can to warn people. I too have an air filter, live in one of the better areas in Thailand for air quality, and sometimes wear an n95 if it's bad out. And I do my best to make others aware of the danger. It's possible things will change if there's public awareness and the will to change things. -
Something similar happened to me when I was staying at a resort with a bunch of the same TV models installed in nearby bungalows. I was just minding my own business when suddenly my TV turned on and started showing porn. The fella next door had managed to pair his remote with my TV and the bungalows were close enough together that his remote worked my TV, via Bluetooth. No hacking was involved. I never said anything to him when I saw him, but let's just say his tastes were interesting. I unplugged my TV after that.

I used an agent for my first extension. I met the financial requirements, but I wanted someone who knew what they were doing to help me through. I also paid for the year's 90-day reports, since it was cheap. But what did it get me? I filled out forms in the agent's office rather than the immigration office. And I still had to deliver my passport to the agent for the 90-day reports. I didn't even save a trip. I've done it myself since. If I have a gf she might help. If not, that's ok.

Too many different ways a woman can cause trouble for you. Yes, sometimes you can get away by moving and cutting off all ties, but what do you get out of it except sex with someone you don't like?

I love Chiang Mai and would live there if not fit the air pollution.
-
In Phuket there are often a few bad weeks out of the year, but most of the rest of the year isn't bad. The same is true of much of the area well south of Bangkok. For those saying the smoke doesn't bother them, some of the problems the pollution causes have nothing to do with whether your eyes sting or you cough. Air pollution carries an increase of stroke, for instance. You probably wouldn't be 'bothered' until it was too late.

Air pollution is a risk factor for not only lung diseases such as emphysema and lung cancer, but for heart disease, stroke, and dementia.
-
I wouldn't use 'being sensitive to it' as a big factor in a decision as to where to live related to air pollution. Some of the risk factors related to air pollution, such as stroke may not have any discernable symptoms beforehand. Heart disease, stroke, emphysema, lung cancer, and dementia all correlate positively to pollution levels.

'Nothing really matters' is not necessarily a realization that causes despair. I find it very freeing. Although I would rephrase it. I'd say we make our own meaning in life. In the end, it doesn't matter, but it feels like it does.
