  1. I would be surprised if he got a royal pardon as they are usually given to those who have at least spent some time in prison. Could happen as a special case I suppose. More likely home detention would be easier to accomplish for a white-collar crime.
  2. Reducing pay is a no-no with the labor department. Go there for advice.
  3. 22 years ago it was George W. Bush -enomics. ????
  4. I don't see a goodwill or trade visit by Russian as making Thailand anti-western or immoral suddenly. Mai Lai, anyone? Most people are unaware that Thailand joined the non-aligned movement in 1993. After the United Nations, it is the largest grouping of states (120) worldwide. Membership requires NOT being aligned with or against any major power bloc. It is a way of balancing the polarization of regions. Thailand is a small country, economically and politically, that does not want all its eggs in one basket. Don't forget, it has been more reliant (regrettably, I feel) on foreign tourists from China and Russia, both enemies of the west, or so I am told. Nevertheless, European and American tourists are also welcome. It is their country, and the attitude of my enemy should be Thailand's enemy doesn't make sense for them.
  5. Does anyone know if he appealed any cases against him? Will he be allowed house arrest? All this and more coming next on Soap.
  6. The answer is simple. Just stop visiting places with double pricing until they lose enough money to reconsider. Just don't visit parks and museums if you can't afford them or feel cheated.
  7. British prisons are notoriously hard on child molesters. The inmates don't take such things lightly and he can expect a regular beating.
  8. I find it hard to understand why people believe in alien visits. Yes, there are probably aliens living on other worlds but how they fly here and elsewhere without breaking the speed of light is anyone's guess.
  9. Talk is cheap. If there is any real evidence I am sure they would have gone for impeachment by now.
  10. Just change the word Chinese for British or English and the case is the same. How many western expats speak Thai (no need to sound offended if you do), and how many go for an English breakfast still? Moreover, Thais sometimes don't know which of their dishes are originally Chinese, or Chinese influenced, like Ba Mii (บะหมี่) clear egg noodle soup, Khanom Jiin (ขนมจีน) fermented rice noodles with curry sauce accompaniments, Guay Chap (ก๋วยจั๊บ) a pork flavoured soup and Guay Tiaw (ก๋วยเตี๋ยว), Jok (โจ๊ก), a rice porridge called congee sometimes, Salapao (ซาลาเปา), steamed buns and Khao Kha Moo (ข้าวขาหมู), fragrant stewed pork with rice.
  11. How can Parliament wait until May 2024 without a prime minister? Announce an interim PM maybe? Maybe possible as Belgium went 592 days without a government at all so I guess it could happen. But the entire period will see more cases against MF that may lead to its dissolution.
  12. Look at the profits oil companies made and the profits of a Line motorcycle messenger I guess. ????
  13. Shell, Exxon and BP are all backing away from the goals to reduce carbon they once trumpeted as they made record profits last year. It is all about money, so tax them more for not driving the switch to alternative energy.
  14. I think the actual removal procedure took like ten minutes. The rest of the time they were screaming with laughter.
  15. I'm sure many will say it is all fake news.
  16. Thailand is becoming a place where diabetes skyrocketed and people don't know they should test for it. The habit of putting sugar in all foods and drinks is one cause. It is really hard to find food in supermarkets without sugar or salt. I doubt whether the meeting will solve this - note the emphasis on money, not results.
  17. A lot of Thais are useless with money. I assume she thought she could return it. Use an agent as suggested by others.
  18. I doubt anyone cares except for the people whose job it is to help immigrants.
  19. Most get a minimum 6 days of paid vacation in Thailand. The government holidays compensate for that.
  20. Are you sure the senate will change its mind? Can't win without them.
  21. Hard to raise tax-to-GDP rates when many don't pay the tax in place at the moment.
  22. The tanks are fueled, the guns are loaded. Just waiting for an excuse.
  23. Renominated but rejected by the Senate. What's changed?
  24. If I remember correctly, Britain also embargoed Germany in WWII. The U.S. has called them sanctions ever since. Just surprised the Russians hadn't done this earlier.
  25. Credit card companies can cancel credit and debit cards, but they won't. What happens if they keep allowing people to use the cards who can't afford to repay? Are they looking at the interest rates they charge and think they can make a bundle? Not if people default and they get zero.
