  1. Don't arm the British Bobby. So what if they can't shoot a bad guy dead with 60 bullets? Most bobbies are trained to avoid conflict not act like cowboys.
  2. I'm sure Thais buy stuff from abroad more than westerners here. Will they tax books? Of course. Hardly anyone here reads.
  3. Must admit that with temperatures into the 40s I would not like to force the ordinary policeman to wander up and down the side of the Central World. Maybe make the fines large enough to make taxi and tuktuk drivers think twice.
  4. In this heat the incident could have led to some dead passengers. Lucky they were rescued in time
  5. Coincidentally, I visited Ban Khun Thiam yesterday and enjoyed cycling there. Expanding it will provide people with exercise and fresh air. The number of restaurants had gotten out of hand, but further inland.
  6. As they say, the Orange One will get his day in court and the prosecution will lay its evidence out for the jury to decide. Innocent until proven guilty!
  7. Agree. Everyone here knows that the will of the people is meaningless and doesn't count in the presidential election. My main point simply being that 3m (2.5%) more people voted for Hilary than Trump. This just goes to show that she was more popular than him. (A little known fact is that in every single case where someone won the electoral college vote but lost the popular vote, he was a Republican.) But yes, I totally agree, the electoral college system does mean those 3m voters were a bunch of losers and don't count.
  8. Just read an article that Blinken is in China asking the Chinese to treat American companies fairly. Oh the irony.
  9. The data doesn't prove much about why people take drugs. That is why catching dealers never results in the end of drug taking.
  10. Is the National Enquirer so respected that it can influence news?
  11. Weird. Competition is the best form of economic system. Until it isn't. And government interference in business is then tolerated.
  12. Wonder what would happen if interest rates rose just after the government borrowed the money?
  13. Perhaps someone can confirm - didn't Hilary actually get 3 million more votes than Trump in the so-called popular vote?
  14. I remember that Thaksin didn't personally take charge of the killing, though it happened on his watch. Knowing the Thai army's habit of killing civilians, I tend to believe Thaksin didn't directly order the army to kill people but of course, as the country's PM, he was ultimately responsible.. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2423190/thaksin-prawit-trade-blame-for-tak-bai-massacre
  15. Thais vary, just as they do elsewhere in the world. Some are trustworthy (I have even met some nice, honest policemen here), some should be part of someone else's life, not mine. I the wife signed the usufruct without batting an eye, a good sign. While prenups may be legal, I doubt whether a Thai family would have heard of it and would surely be suspicious (as in, are you trying to cheat my daughter?).
  16. Not sure but I now assume that Sretta has run out of ideas and is scraping the bottom of the barrel. How is the worlds tallest building going to grow the economy in the next five years? Why isn't he planning to improve the education of the majority of people here so that they can all participate in the economy (again, down the road)? It is so disappointing to see a real estate tycoon as PM thinking of projects that concern real estate tycoons only.
  17. Can't blame her for respecting ancient Thai culture. Even the Ministry of Culture used to have two topless angels on its front page (since removed).
  18. How much revenue will come off this? Seems expensive to put on. Can't compare with Singapore, which plans everything well. I expect people will come for the horrific crashes.
  19. Just waiting for the Vietnamese government to cry "cultural appropriation."
  20. Had no idea Sretta was a military strategist. So, he views people who have crossed the border and... Did what?
  21. I had to take a subject called religious studies at school. However, no one gave us a clue about satanism. I felt ever so marginalized.
