This might have opened up a loophole, If the embassy told you that is all you need to apply for an STV then go ahead and apply, the insurance you have already taken out will cover you for COE, don't listen to what AXA tells you, I think I will throw an email my embassy's way and see what they say, if they respond identically to you then I will submit a $100,000 covid insurance with my application and nothing else.

Embassy got back to me and said yes that is fine for COE but you still need health insurance to apply for visa,

    so no go.

So an update on this this afternoon,

I contacted the thai embassy in London Regarding this and they told me the following after i explained what Axa told me.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for your email.

As long as your insurance policy covers COVID and no less than 100,000 USD medical coverage, it should be acceptable.

    Warmest regards,
    The Visa Team

I replied back to them attaching my insurance policy and they said this to me

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for your email.

Please apply using what you have. If we need more information, we will be in touch.

    Warmest regards,
    The Visa Team

I then got back to Axa and explained to Axa that the insurance policy i purchased was ok according to the thai embassy in London

Axa then got back to me and stated this

In London Thai Embassy website also mention for insurance coverage  IPD 400K and OPD 40K require for STV. You may check with them again. Along with this link from the london embassy https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/119247-requirements-for-certificate-of-entry-during-travel-restriction

on the website link it does mention what the insurance company was refering to regarding the stv

    • Copy of health insurance policy which covers medical expenses in Thailand for outpatient not less than 40,000 Baht and for inpatient not less than 400,000 Baht, and COVID-19 related medical expenses no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand --  Please check http://longstay.tgia.org> for more information regarding the insurance requirement.

So i have got Axa telling me i do need to purchase an extra insurance policy, the thai embassy in London telling me i do not but then on the thai embassys London website its telling me i do need to purchase it.

This has only added to my confusion and i have no idea what to make out of it.

    Chinese and millionaires are welcome.

Chinese are already flocking to Hainan, spending big on fake gucci bags etc, where once they would be shooting wedding photos in phuket they are now doing them there, the place is packed apparently, shoulder to shoulder in all the shops, spending their millions in country, think they have lost interest in thai.

  4. Instead of opening up the country to tourists they should shut it down like they did in March, the outbrak they have up north is only the tip of the iceberg, until they have it under control why risk it?, scenario...a fella comes over and quarantines for a fortnight, he is then free to mingle and catch the virus before heading back to his country, what a great holiday, he will never forget ☺

UJ already responded, but just to confirm/clarify for you.

1 - Anybody can now apply for a 60-day SingleEntry TouristVisa at any Thai Embassy/Consulate abroad.

2- When you enter Thailand on that SETV you will be stamped in with a permission to stay for 60 days  The first 14 days of those 60 days you will have to spend in the ASQ Hotel you opted for when you applied for the CoE (Certificate of Entry) like anybody currently entering Thailand.

3 - When coming out of quarantaine, you then need to open a personal Thai bank-account and transfer +800K THB to that bank-account with foreign origins of the funds proven.  When that is done you can then apply for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement at the local IO of the province where you intend to stay long-term in Thailand.

4 - You need to apply for that 90-day Non Imm O Visa when you have still at least 15 days (some IOs require 23 days) left on the permission to stay stamped into your passport when having entered Thailand on your 60-day SETV, and you can do it from the moment you still have 30 days left on your permission to stay.  The funds (see #3) only need to be on that bank-account at the moment of application, so you have between 2 weeks and 1 month to open the account and ensure the funds are transferred at the moment you want to apply for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa.

5 - Once you have the 90-day permission to stay in your passport from that 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement, you need to keep the +800K funds on that account.  In the last month of those 90 days you can then apply for the 1-year extension of stay based on that Non Imm O-Visa, and this has to be done at the SAME IO where you applied for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa.  Doing so the funds will have been more than two months on your bank-account and thereby meeting the 2-months seasoning requirement.

6 - Once you have the 1-year extension of stay stamp in your passport, you still need to maintain the +800K funds on that personal Thai bank-account.  The +800K needs to be for 3 months on that account, for the next 6-7 months the amount can be lowered to +400K, only to top up again to +800K in the two months preceding your NEXT application for a 1-year extension of stay application based on that Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement.

    >> I did PM you a comprehensive guideline document for long-stay in Thailand on a Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement.  That document outlines in far more detail the options you have.

    Success!

Well said Peter, This should be put up as a sticky in the tutorials section, If there is a tutorials section, you could also suggest what the best way is to transfer funds and obtain proof that it came from out of country, Tips on opening a bank account, all under the heading " How to Obtain a Non O in country for dummies", no pun Intended.

See my earlier response and UJ's confirmation of it being correct.

But the question is WHY would you do a border-hop at the end of the 3-months the 90-day Non Imm O Visa will provide after you successfully applied for it from the SingleEntry 60-day Tourist Visa?  To apply for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa you would need to meet the financial requirements for that application, and subsequently applying for the 1-year extension of that Non Imm O Visa only requires you to maintain the financial proof you provided for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa application.

My bad, I was assuming that to obtain a 90 day non o you did not need funds, and only needed funds 2 months prior to applying for a one year extension.

The OP is in the U.S. and although someone in the U.S. can sign up for a Revolut account, and funds in the account are FDIC insured, the account may not offer the “Overseas Insurance”.

I’m in the U.S. and when I go to the Revolut website and look at “Features”, the insurance is grayed out and says “coming soon”.

I’ve deleted cookies and reset my VPN to different locations throughout the U.S. and get the same result. If I change to a server outside the U.S. the insurance is listed in the features of the account.

(Actually I get the same “coming soon” when using a server in Australia).

I wanted to contact Revolut to find out more info about this, but unfortunately I can find no way to contact Revolut unless I first download and create an account, and I don't want to create an account if it does not offer the insurance.

Looks to be a dud, many people complaining they cannot get hold of them, app is locking them out of their acc, no insurance listed for au, it is listed for us but without being able to verify I think i would stay clear.

To be 100% certain I used an agent. She only charges me 30,000 baht per month. For that I also get benefits in kind and her house to live in. It was also a money back guarantee for the retirement extension as I told her she only gets the 30k a month if I'm here.

Seriously, it depends how many boxes the op can't tick.

Not making much sense of the above comment, If she is your gf she  might be taking advantage.

Just took my 3 sets of documents (original and 2 copies) to a JP. He would only sign the 2 copies, refused to sign the original set as it would "deface" the original. I assume the Thai Embassy in Canberra will want all 3 sets signed? If so, how the <deleted> do I get a JP to do it?

Couple of years ago I only had one set signed and stamped, they did not complain.
