I have trouble reconciling the encouraging of Chinese tourists with Thailand's 'no smoking in public' stance.
As a non smoker I am happy with that, but pretty much every Chinese guest that we have had is a smoker.
Somewhat relevant: I was looking at coastal resorts in Japan and the ones I opened all allowed smoking. One site read: "We do not have no-smoking rooms. Please do not ask." I love Japan. Too bad it's so expensive.

OK so how about the barber in Bangkok that was infected by a customer?
The idea of quarantine and social distancing was to get the caseload to a manageable level. I think they can manage one case for every 69 million people per week.

You ever watched Olympic opening ceremonies? Military parades? University marching bands? Las Vegas showgirls? The Rockettes? It's hyptomizing. The government officials can't take their eyes away from so many people prancing to their orders.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to Tik Tok?

Exactly.
Open them up to no customers.
Expats?

A stadium where one infected person could infect dozens is far more if a risk than a massage shop where a worker might have two or three customers a day.
The better test would be to keep large gatherings banned, keep social distancing in place, but dump the masks and see if there is any adverse result. If not, then drop social distancing. No spike? Open everything.

Yea! you are right! let the scum loot, kill, attack innocent people - burn churches! why stop them? this is not the first time this has happened remember LA riots? what if YOU were a shop owner that was looted? but no you sit in your arm chair and say 'let the mob rule' unbelievable
restore law and order
You don't do it when you still have options including local and state law enforcement and that state's national guard, which all have been upgraded following 9/11. To give Trump that power at this date means he could call out the military to quell protests when he loses the election but refuses to leave office. A real possibility. "The election was rigged!"

As any business knows, it's the repeat customer that provides the base income, and then you spread out from there. Now what does Thailand have that brings repeat business? Shopping for shoes in a mall? Pad Thai? Must be Wat Po. The 20th time IS the charm. It certainly couldn't be anything that happens after dark.

The point is Thais missed out on official days off. It only makes sense to mandate multiple days off for people who haven't had an income for three months or more.

City leaders will use tax money to spruce up the area so landlords can hike rents. What they need is a day/night makeover. Those Walking Street clubs sit empty all day when they could be used for traditional dance shows (@300b a head; please forgive the chrome poles) for all those Chinese groups uselessly marching through the area when all the lights are off. Then flip the switch and bring on the go-go girls after dark.
Happy hour could be go-go girls doing Thai dance. Quite sexy and the girls actually dance.

Southern hillbilly of a girl, age 12 and built the way girls used to flaunt. She was my neighbor chum's girl. He took me to show her off. We were 13. She suggested spin the bottle. It pointed at me again and again. I was in heaven and could hardly walk home. She moved back south. Four years later she returned to visit. A stunning blond. My first touch of bare breast. I lost my virginity.

The press never informs us of any really fun places or happenings until the day of lockdown. Been here 22 years and feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

Boy was I wrong. I assumed, from news reports, that the most frightening things in Thailand were:
- Someone lighting up within 100 meters of them;
- Someone lighting up within 200 meters of them;
- Someone buying a beer not approved by the vote of four seperate government agencies within the previous 24 hours;
- Someone seeing the uncovered face of a female who is not a family member;
- Someone seen enjoying life which, obviously, could lead to all sorts of wonton behavior.

You are on a business trip with no app. Do you really want to enter full contact details, especially in a country where COVID is so low you can't see any need for this?

It's easy to social distance. Just pretend every facility is the auditorium of an '80s adult theater. Nobody sat anywhere near anyone else and liked it that way.

U.S. stats show one in 10 diabetic COVID patients die of the disease. Raise taxes on food! Throw covers over fat people so children won't see them. Also, smoking reduces stress, one of the biggest killers in modern society.

Is Dongtan included in any of the beaches listed?

We are wading through molasses here. Be patient. Very very patient.

The whole idea of quarantine was to 'flatten the curve' to where hospitals could handle the outbreak. They have far exceeded that. It seems this app to trace every footstep is excessive when there are so few COVID-19 cases in Thailand. A thousand a day? Yes. This is like trying to stamp out the common cold. It ain't going to happen without a vaccine for everyone even if you assigned a medical professional to follow every person in Thailand around every day, all day.

And if no smartphone? Especially international visitors? Can you still sign in with a pen? Story doesn't say one way or the other.

Can you smoke in Thai jails?
Anti-smoking forces got lighting up in prison banned a few years back when they banned display of cigarettes for sale, hiked taxes, and a host of other restrictions. Maybe rising gun violence has to do with all these restrictions on stress relievers. Stress - the real health hazard.

Two-week tourists, when they return, won't in any great number have an international I-phone to unstall an app just to get a massage. You can sign in elsewhere with a pen, so why not at massage shops?

What could Trump do? Declare state of emergency prior to the election due to COVID, or protests, or possible street violence. He used the military last week to clear peaceful protesters so he could do a photo op. That was a practice run. He could shutter the postal service to stop voting by mail. He's been attacking the postal service to set this up. The military response is critical. They are sworn to follow orders. These former top officers speaking out at the same time know this. They know this isn't just politics with Trump.
