Nong Khai stopped being the "most friendly border crossing in all of thailand" a while back
Since the rule change back on July 15th, 2024 when they went from 30 day free entry (visa exempt) for 51 countries to 60 day free entry for 90+ countries that border has gradually tightened up.
It's to the point that they tell some people, "you can get out but you can't come back in by land", they tell other people, "if spend xxx number of days in Lao you can come back in here", and some people, "show proof that you're going back to where you come from by air in 60 days", etc
There just is no way to predict what the guard at the border is gonna tell you when you go to stamp out. For sure, they'll know you're only wanting to bounce out/back to milk a new 60 day free entry stamp, so you're not fooling them with the "we go to Lao for the day" story 😛 They'll let you know at the border how long you have to be out and if you can come right back in or not
If you don't have a crazy entry/stay history (as in you haven't been living here on free stamp entries) you should be able to get out/back without much fanfare. It's totally your previous entry/stay history that controls how they treat you when you wanna bounce out and back.Thank you Tod for your feedback.
I had retirement visas from marriage in the past.
From May 2023 I was working overseas until May 2025. During the 2 years I returned every 6 months for about 3 weeks each time.
It's the unpredictability when leaving that is my worry now on what the officer informs.
Thank you again.

Maybe even 2 nights.
Thank you DrJack, 2 nights is the minimum or the wiser choice?
Thank you again.

Hi all,
Hopefully someone can tell me if this is possible.
I arrived in Bangkok Thailand May 11 permitted until 9 July (British Passport) and am now near Sawang Deandin in the North East.
We were planning to apply for a 60 day extension based upon marriage in Sakhon Nakhon but I forgot my original Wedding Certificate in Bangkok - stupid mistake.
Question: Can l just leave via Nong Khai to Vientiane side and come back on the same day or do l need to stay 1 night?
Many thanks.

Same with Burger King & KFC.
Something else I find strange, locals do a better job at western food also, than the expat managed restaurants, especially if the expat is cooking. Italian & Brit food anyway, as don't do much of anything else, and actually rare to have Brit food, but couple places in Udon Thani were good.
Hi, where in Udon Thani is good for Brit food?
I've just got back from Haiti so a little tired of rice / spaghetti.
Thank you.

Hello all,
Mazda bt50 3.2 is very subtly lagging when on the highway. I can feel it and the rev counter sort of dips for a second.
Had the fuel, oil and air filters changed last year.
Any idea to ask the garage to check also when l take it into them.
I only feel it on the highway and not around town.
Thank you.

I recall Thai artesian foods use to stock some, l got the pink salt from them before.
Koh Samui I think but they do shipping.

Hi All,
I used Carpenter luggage repair (in Google maps) in Bangkok. Picked up my case, repaired and dropped it back at the house within 1 day. Paid 1600B in total for 4 wheels.
Excellent work. My wife used the Line App to talk to them.

Hello all,
I'm working overseas and looked for a user manual for a Mazda 3.2 liter BT-50 Pro 4WD 2012 without luck. Would anyone be kind enough to verify if a 63amp battery is an adequate replacement size and recommend any brands.
Many thanks,
James.

Thanks for the update.
However others note that TM30 is often required for 30 day extension.
Like many things at immigration it's luck of the draw.
Yes, next time I return l will do the TM30 asap just to be on the safe side.

Just an update: I went to IT Laski yesterday on the off chance without a TM30.
Was told TM30 was not necessary, nor were my wife's ID card and house book.
Got 30 days extension stamp for 1900B. Not an unpleasant experience at all.
Thank you for all the replies I received here.

Sorry for all the questions about the TM30.
The address was approved online, l filled in the name, passport and phone numbers and saved.
I just checked for approval and is showing an excel form to fill, but no way to type in it when l open it.
Any ideas please?

I thought it was her name but now doubting myself.
Thanks again.

Did a 30 extension last week up here in E-sarn last week.
No TM 30 required and in 40 years of coming to Thailand I've done a TM 30.
Thanks, l was up there for 3 weeks and now in BKK. As l said l just purely forgot about the TM30

Just file the TM30 notification online before you go there and take a printout of the receipt along.
Thank you for your reply.

Most likely the document check chicks will send you away without TM30.
Your wife does not need to be with you.
This thread lists other docs required. Photocopies etc
https://aseannow.com/topic/1324628-30-day-extension-to-visa-exempt-entry❓/
Thank you DrJack.
So if they send me away tomorrow for not having a TM30, do we apply online today or can pay a fine tomorrow?

First up how did you enter Thailand.
If visa exempt you will attend IT mall LakSi.
If with a visa eg SETV you will attend CW.
Most likely you will need to provide a TM30
Edit: you only received 30 from dates mentioned so you go to LakSi
Thank you very much.
I have a British passport and arrived via air.
I will go to IT Laski mall, but do we do the TM30 before or in the immigration office there?
Does my wife need to join me?
Thank you again.

Hi all,
I came back to Thailand 12th July for vacation/ visit family.
I forgot to inform my wife to do a TM30.
My visa expires 10th August and l want to extend for another 10 days.
Will there be a problem asking for extension in Chaeng Wattana tomorrow?
Does my wife need to go with me?
Many thanks for feedback.

I cannot recall the last time for the fuel filter, the air filter was changed along with the engine brake and oil 10k km ago.
I'll have them check the fuel filter. Thank you.

Over the last couple of days driving l have noticed the truck sort of very subltey lagging when doing a constant speed 80 or 00 kmh of around on a highway. Also a bit sluggish on acceleration.
The truck hasn't been used much over the last 6 months, starts and idles fine with no fluid on the driveway.
Any thoughts on the possible issues before going to the garage. I was thinking dirty injections.
Many thanks.
Border run to Vientiane possible?

Thank you, l had not considered Nakhon Phantom, it's not too much further in KM than Nong Khai.
