  1. Not really. I just finished paying a Phuket hospital 4,500 for a doctor to look at an ingrown toenail and show me how to apply a tape to pull the skin away from the toenail. This was a non-emergency dermatologist with me having made an appointment. I now expect a broken arm treated in Phuket should be around 1m baht, without pain medication.
  2. Apology not acceptable. Would you move on if someone kicked you in the back? I think we all (except you of course) share in the doctor’s disgust of a man who would touch a woman. He may have paid 2m baht, by way of small brown envelope, to someone to help him. But like others before him it was too little too late. Be sensible David, turn over your elephant park and pray to Buddha.
  3. Written in Thai by uneducated people who do not know how to write Thai very well. Then they use Google translate and it can’t really understand their gibberish so it produces what we get to read.
  4. Is this land of stupid reporting or what? Desperate attempt but didn’t knock on the door. This is written by idiots or the cheapest AI in the world.
  5. He deserved to be doused in yellow water. Uneducated foreigners who think they are special. Disgraceful.
  6. Foreigners learn from Thais that any direction on any surface is the way of Thailand. But you need Buddha
  7. Many of you are talking about the new tax laws, which have nothing to do with NIT. But I thought I would share some Thai tax laws with you, for those who are planning to not file their tax return next March or fudge the numbers on their Thai tax return. I am working with two of the largest tax accountants in Thailand (still undecided as to who will be my accountant) and they advise, file your tax return or possibly pay some large and painful penalties, as shown below. 1. Late Filing Penalty - 1,000 to 2,000 THB 2. Late Payment Penalty - penalty of 1.5% of unpaid taxes per month until paid - max 100%, possible for an additional penalty of up to 20% of the outstanding tax amount. 3. Failure to File Penalty - fine of up to 200% of the unpaid tax if it’s determined that the failure to file was intentional or involved fraud or evasion. 4. Additional Penalties - If they find that you have under-reported your income, they may impose penalties ranging from 100% to 200% of the unreported income. 5. Tax Evasion: Deliberate tax evasion or fraud can result in criminal charges, which may include imprisonment, fines, or both.
  8. That is the singer who may been drunk and killed some people. The police in question did what people worldwide do, “oh my god you’re famous please give me your autograph and I will clean up your mess”. Idolizers
  9. There is no enforcement in Thailand. That is why the Chinese and Russians love it here. From micro-managed in their home countries to non-managed here. Thai people appreciate it also, for example all the taxi drivers who don’t turn on their meters to tour bus operators who skirt safety checks with a small envelope and donation. That is the Land of whatever
  10. Might be an idea to read the article before forming an opinion. This only applies to COD orders and the buyer can receive the goods and then in the own speedy time open the package while videotaping the opening and then if not satisfied, contact the courier company or more likely the seller to arrange for a speedy pickup, which must be done within 5 days of the delivery.
  11. Thailand need only follow their dream nation - China. Punish corruption and implement safety. It does however require that police are paid a fair wage. Corruption is driven by inadequate economics
  12. Not true. Top down actual enforcement. All monitored with real penalties. Police officer without working camera or camera not on. Dock them 1-month pay. Confiscate all unlicensed vehicles, and vehicles where the driver has no license issued. All roadside stops must be videotaped and uploaded same day. All of this for a very little change in current budgets and this could all be reviewed by AI and perpetrators caught, but they must then be punished. That is the only problem in this country. You cannot punish anyone. You cannot say they did something wrong. Defamation. Government needs to bring Thailand forward 100 years, so they are equal to North American thinking from the 1950’s. Right now Thailand acts as if we are living in 1850’s.
  13. Is she daft? International tourists are more likely to be educated and therefore do not welcome a firmer and fatter baht.
  14. The government is responsible. Vehicle safety checks annually. Use technology, all inspections are videotaped and reviewed by AI. Use the available tech for what is was designed for.
  15. The owner is responsible and should suffer the same fate
  16. They catch one in 10. Totally fair. Settle or criminal courts. Up to the perpetrator.
  17. Soi Hong Nan as it is referred to by many, is a toilet and you see people cooking over top of a grey water drain and vent with the vent directly under the food being prepared. It should be closed. But I have to ask, why does anybody care about the image of one of the largest “reasonably safe” brothels in the world? I have been here since 1997 and I came for exactly that reason alone - not for cheap food or warm sunshine. Vancouver is and was too expensive for girls.
  18. Not too many people will buy this grade of marijuana. In Vancouver we started with medical cannabis. Prescriptions were plentiful and cheap.
  19. Red is the #1 color for Chinese. Immigration probably thinks a red notice is a kind of privilege for important VIPs.
  20. Small brain. This visa is not only for people who want to retire here and marry or date a Thai farmer’s daughter or son, as the case may be. Many people like the freedom to reside in a number of countries. For example many people apply for long term visas to Canada. But who wants to be a Canadian tax resident and pay 58% tax? Think outside your little (minute not the time the size minute) sphere of knowledge.
  21. No mention of car make model? Wouldn’t think auto lock is engaged until car is put in gear and moved
  22. Also, Thailand, by royal decree of his majesty the King, offers tax exemption to all long term visa holders. Something you don’t see anywhere else in the world. So for any foreigner who makes a decent income on their investments - there is no income tax.
  23. This new tax is on all tax residents of Thailand. This hurts the rich Thais with trillions of baht offshore that have been tax free, much more than you.
