300 b times 40 million tourists expected that's a lot of baht.
New BMWs, villas, and Rolexes being ordered while we still talk about it, and Somchai Doe (of 95% 'lower class') not getting one satang of it...

Still does but it's a departure tax. Might be wrong but as far as I know all airports have this on departure from the country.
Of course they do, but this proposal has nothing to do with higher airport-costs, or tourism-industry improvements, or insurance, but is (in the latest proposal) purely a money-grab, cause there are "too many tourists", despite TAT's very frequent announcements about plans to attract like 80 million international tourists, or more.

That's good and fair. And I will remind myself to cut one of my expenses by 300 baht to compensate, every time I travel to Thailand. 😆

His successor will need to pursue unfinished initiatives like (...) to promote Thailand as a Southeast Asia tourism hub.
And yet, wasn't the word only a few days ago that there are 'too many tourists, and the Tourism Minister should take action'? So, why is there still a need for promotion, or do certain parties in Thailand get a cut from the promotion budget?

It's simple, they just assumed that each tourist (all singles, obviously) spent 1,000 baht on accommodation per night, and 800 baht per day on food and beverages...

15+ hours return (for the driver); good luck finding a taxi at Suvarnabhumi for such a trip. Of course, if you offer enough cash, you might get lucky... Probably you'd have to offer at least eight or ten thousand baht.

I just learnt that 'Bora Bora' is a country. Wonder, whether, adding Tahiti and other islands, French Polynesia could have come close to Thailand's ranking...

Was this sponsored by the TAT like other recent 'news' reports about Thailand as a destination?

LOL. 'Interests' and searches mean nothing if they don't result in actual bookings... I often check out accommodations on Agoda, or tours on other websites, but only go through with the booking once in a while.

I'm sure he brought them in when travelling here by plane... 😝

And the TAT and government want 80 million foreign tourists, or roughly three times the number they got over the past year! Nuff said...
Perhaps they should invest into infrastructure (besides the airports) for once.

Happened to me at Don Muang coming back from a Phnom Penh holiday just before Covid early 2020. Got pulled over and sat next to an IO desk being asked questions for 30 minutes. I was worried I would not be allowed in even though I had a 6 month METV. The IO said I should get a more "appropriate" visa for my "longer" stays. Then Covid hit and I was out of Thailand for more than 2 years so I expect everything reset.
Yes, me too. Was pulled aside and questioned for up to half an hour at three immigration checkpoints in early 2020. Left Thailand later for about six months. After that no issues, and I got a long-term visa following that.

It's not about those people in the North East, but the few greedy upper-class billionaires who want to add 300 baht times X to their already outrageous fortune...

Have said this before and will say it again, at all the international airports they should just have a U-turn before passport control to take you back to your country on the same airplane you arrived in and buckets in the departure lounge that say "Please put in this bucket all the money you brought to spend on your holiday"
Pompolo for head of TAT!That's exactly what they want. No pesky tourists, or 'having to play the host'... No, all they want is grabbing as much money with a minimum of effort from their 'guests'. And more and more tourists learn it the hard way, visiting only once...

Not a day goes by without the idiots singling out foreigners for whatever reasons, or trying to fleece them. Just. Can't. Fix. Stupid.
I remember well, how Anutin called (Western) foreigners "dirty", and asked Thais to stay well away from them not so long ago... Add how dirty and polluted the country is, overpriced compared to neighbouring countries, and the changed attitude of Thai women. - Yes, I really want to be fleeced more for all this... Not! - This is not the 1980s where there were limited other destination choices in the region.

I agree with you and plenty on here missing the point with comments of " it's only 300 baht"
If one has been here long or often enough, one will know that Thai greed knows no limits. If successful, those 300-baht fees would quickly be doubled and tripled...

"Over tourism"? Are these people kidding?
One minute they're crying because they don't get enough tourists and giving freebies to countries like India and China and the next minute they're trying to do things to slow tourism down.
Make a decision guys!
Seems, they are believing their own propaganda and fantasy numbers... "We want 80 million tourists", and each one should pay 300 (or why not 3,000?) baht.

I think the intention is to manage the money to ensure it does end up in where you and I don't think it should be. To me, it is just them seeing an increase in tourists, and thinking how to squeeze more money from them, with nary a thought on how to use those funds to 'improve' tourism and infrastructure or anything beneficial, for that matter.
That's right. No way even 2% (6 baht) of such a 300-baht fee would be used for "improvements"...
