This is false information. I was almost denied twice in early 2020, and another time also thoroughly interviewed. During these three interrogations, I was neither asked to show the mentioned cash, nor whether I had a return-ticket. I was asked about accommodation during my stay, though; probably because the IOs were afraid that I would sleep under a bridge, or on the beach... 🤣

No, it's not racist, but instigating media hypes about illegal workers in Thailand, while, at the same time, whitewashing illegal Thai workers abroad as "little ghosts" is. - Illegal work by Thai "travellers" is a big problem in many Asian countries.

Certainly true, and this has little to do with Covid-19 as the author of the OP claims, but it's about reckless borrowing over decades, and irresponsible lending by Thai banks.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has unveiled his vision for turning Thailand into a sustainable hub for tourism, wellness and medical services, agriculture, food, aviation, logistics, future mobility, financial services and the digital economy.
He wants to turn Thailand into the hub of hubs? Hubba, hubba...

Another new word to add to the dictionary - Kazakhstani. Presumably this replaces the proper word Kazakh which those people had been using for centuries.
Next - Thailanders
Westernerstani not so popular these days; there are too many, they stay too long, and they come too often...

Let me guess; 33.28 baht per message?

There must be more to this story, somewhere, anywhere ?
Strangely, the, usually mentioned, length of overstay is missing... Either he just overstayed a day or two, or something else is missing.

Interesting. According to Google: "Very rare: Fewer than 20,000 U.S. cases per year", but more than 1% of the population in Thailand?

Must be desperate, despite the fact that the economy, officially, is growing fast, and almost everyone being employed...

Same story in Cambodia, they are asking 4,500 baht for one way from Phnom Penn to Siem Reap.
Their domestic low costs airlines such as Bassaka etc seem to have thrown the towel in.
That's a different story; how many airlines fly that domestic route nowadays? I would presume that there is way more competition Bangkok to Phuket than Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.

Bangkok-Phuket march 1st-return 8th on Kayak
ais asia or thai lion2,600-3,600 R/T!!!
Don't know about Thai Lion Air, but if Air Asia advertises such prices, the final price, possibly, is much higher, flights are not possible to book, or they cancel the flight on short notice...

Considering how "low" the official unemployment numbers are, one would think that Thailand has a huge demand for foreign labour. Perhaps those people from Myanmar could improve the tourism industry (hotels/hospitals/banking/sales/ costumer service, etc.) by providing staff that can actually speak English. (I've had my own experience going to a bank branch, where the only one who could understand and speak English was the security guard from Myanmar!) - Let the Thais do the construction work and fishing instead...

I don't think they have used actuaries in calculating and budgeting that amount. 1.5 baht per tourist? That 50m baht pot will last long.
Or 1 baht per tourist if they want 50 million... Leaving a 1-baht tip is an insult in Thailand, so maybe it's a Freudian sign...

If a tourist dies in an accident, their family can get up to 1 million baht (around $30,000 USD). For serious injuries, they can get up to 300,000 baht ($9,000 USD). The insurance also covers medical bills up to 500,000 baht ($15,000 USD).
I'd like to know where they get the exchange rate from; 33.33 baht for a dollar... - Where can I buy dollars at that rate?
Also, I don't buy this 'we take care of tourists' thing. No doubt, rather sooner than later they will use this scheme to justify an extra tourist tax.

Joined some awesome tours in Australia's Northern Territory and all the major cities in Oz, but also in New Zealand. Had a knowledgable tour guide for a great sightseeing tour in Hanoi.

Do you avoid expats?
Have you found them to be great friends
I talk to other expats, but mostly when I'm away on holiday. Very hard to make friends, as the pool of expats is quite small, but with a myriad of very different interests, lifestyles, and opinions. I usually avoid compatriotes. We have a saying back home: "Stay away from storm and wind, but especially from compatriots abroad!", which, from experience, I can confirm to be good advice, particularly in Thailand...

My wife and I will be travelling soon to Cape Town S Africa and my wife will no doubt be using her debit card.
Does she need to notify Bangkok bank of her intended dates of travel?I used my Thailand-issued Visa debit card internationally, e.g. Down Under without problems. The only place where it didn't work was joke-airline Air Asia's website. I would presume that Union Pay is the same.

I'm not sure if this is correct, or maybe I misunderstand.
The passport that has your extension is supposed also to have the original visa stamp, even if that one is 15 years dated.
At least that is what happened when I renewed my passport 7 years ago
Interesting. That would explain why another office cannot transfer the extension stamp. So, technically, I should only get an exit stamp into my new passport when leaving by air.

General rule of thumb is that stamps, visa information etc is transfered at immigration where they were issued.
Example my last passport renewal was some years back at CW.
The io at CW transferred non O details, etc.
Would not transfer my reentry permit. Reason....it was issued at DMK (airport).
"You need go there"
Not surprised by your post.
Well, okay. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Immigration office that originally issued the extension, said: "You don't live here anymore..." - Anyway, I'll just present both passports on my way out.
-
Update: tried to transfer extension to new passport at Chaengwattana, but was told: "Cannot". Reason is that it was issued in another province.
