General rule of thumb is that stamps, visa information etc is transfered at immigration where they were issued.

Example my last passport renewal was some years back at CW.

The io at CW transferred non O details, etc.

Would not transfer my reentry permit. Reason....it was issued at DMK (airport).

    "You need go there"

    Not surprised by your post.

Well, okay. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Immigration office that originally issued the extension, said: "You don't live here anymore..." - Anyway, I'll just present both passports on my way out.

Has anyone had success depositing a check in a Thai bank that is drawn on a US bank.  If so, what did you have to do?

I did it many years ago; it wasn't complicated. However, I did it at the local branch of HSBC, which closed down years ago. If I were you, I wouldn't go to a small branch, but, if possible, the main branch, or a branch regularly dealing with foreign customers.

you can just leave with both> u will be stamped OUT in new one
    no problem<
    So no  reentry permit ?

BEFORE you need deal with ur immigration office, u need have some stuff transferred at the immigration that  issued the extension only from old to new
BUT IF ur extension in old passport will be expired and no re entry when u return, you dont need do anything

Interesting. Yes, new passport, and I won't be able to use the extension again. So, I guess, I will just turn up at the airport with both passports, perhaps going a bit earlier, just in case.

Arriving in another SE Asian country, will there be any issues, if I only have the 'exit stamp' from Thailand in my (new) passport?

Once you have your new passport you need to go to your local immigration and transfer the stamps, it's supposed to be a free service.

Don't forget a re-entry permit to keep your current extension alive before you leave the country.

    Thank you.

My current extension will have expired by the time I return to Thailand.

As I've never changed Euros what's the procedure at exchange booths to check for forgeries? I personally wouldn't have a clue if someone gave me Euros if they were fake or not.

Many years ago I exchanged Dutch guilders at an exchange booth in Bangkok. Staff didn't know them, even though they were on the display, so they looked the currency up in a booklet.

On February 7th, 2024, Mr. Karom Phonphonklang, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, gave a statement for the Chinese New Year Celebration from February 8th to the 10, emphasizing monitoring the lighting of incense, candles, firecrackers, and burning of paper money.

Yes, this will solve the problem of air pollution... LOL - Seems, unlike others, the incense, candle and firecracker makers have not much of a lobby with government politicians. They must have forgotten to deliver brown envelopes...

I wonder how such decisions are made. Like: someone high up in the party has this idea. And then? Let's do it.

Are there any discussions or even an impact study what consequences there might be.

Or just: Ok, let's do it. We will see later what happened.

And later: Nobody could have foreseen that one...

My bet is that the economy (and people's incomes) aren't doing as well as is proclaimed every other day, so this is the simplest solution to keep the masses happy...

    just looked it up..

    they quoted me ~60 bucks

vs 90 bucks via air to Vientiane. 🙄

air would be over don muang.. don't know about problems there..

You'd be in transfer on a stopover, so no problem as long as you don't need to check in again at Don Muang.

I'd happily pay the 30 bucks more to avoid a 12-hour bus ride, unless, of course, you want to see the countryside from the bus window.

Recently, a friend of mine was about to apply for an agent assisted Non-ED extension and last minute immigration refused as they discovered he'd reach 50 in a few months and explained that they could/would not issue such extensions to anyone over 50 and advised he should get a Retirement extension.

Which is stupid, as many study the Thai language at a school in order to qualify for the ED visa. With a retirement extension, no need to spend money on Thai language courses, meaning loss of income for schools, and tax for Thailand... LOL
