  1. He probably expected to be pardoned within 72 hours.
  2. Taxi drivers seem to be recruited from the bottom of the barrel... I remember, 20 years ago, they were friendly, didn't refuse as many passengers, and could even hold a simple conversation in English! - Nowadays, many taxi drivers seem to come right from a farm, don't know Bangkok, or routes, and, despite GPS and smartphone, seem to have trouble finding destinations. They can't understand a word of English, don't lift a finger to help with luggage, and sit behind the wheel like zombies...
  3. Why tip if the driver doesn't help with the luggage? My experience is that taxi drivers usually want to 'take the highway' if the destination is not close, which often makes the distance longer (even though it circumvents jams). As for "location is difficult for a regular taxi to reach", what does that even mean; that drivers don't have knowledge how to get from A to B, which, in many countries, is required to get a taxi license? Not only do drivers ask the passengers for the way, but they also do not speak or understand English. Thank god there's Grab and Bolt these days...
  4. Nothing on my weather app, besides some 'rain' around 5 p.m. today.
  5. Thailand loves the Chinese, esp. Chinese tour groups, with which a handful of Thais can make big business... What's the news?
  6. Cast of "The Sopranos"?
  7. What the military government didn't do, the "democratic" one will...
  8. No need for that in Thailand. Elections are swayed by Thais any which way the top 50 or so families want.
  9. Yes, Thailand will 'close down' Facebook! LOL. Best they could do is block it in Thailand, but people will find ways around it, as they do in China...
  10. I was referring to all those accidents recently involving higher-priced vehicles driven by Chinese, which were at least 3 in recent times... I don't know who was at fault, as I wasn't there.
  11. Yes, and why all the accidents? Do the Chinese drive on the wrong side (like they do in NZ)?
  12. A bit confusing; 55 per cent regret Brexit, another 7 per cent think it was bad, but 'never mind', but only 46 per cent say there should be a new referendum in the foreseeable future... Do the remaining 16 per cent (62 - 46) just want to 'carry on', no matter what?
  13. On Asean Now I often get weird ads in French, even though I'm in Thailand, not French, and never ever browse French websites. And on YouTube, I, most of the time, get ads in Thai for products that have absolutely nothing to do with what I watch there, or with my browsing history, or my searches on Google. Strange is that, while almost all ads are in Thai, I also, occasionally, get ads to study Thai! - Obviously, I would never buy stocks in Google, as, despite all the tracking they do on me, they have absolutely no idea who I am... What a joke this company must be!
  14. Years ago when I lived in London, I wondered why so many Chinese ate at McDonald's. Can't have been the lack of Chinese restaurants... Also, my girlfriend told me that her Thai friend once travelled with a big suitcase full of Mama noodles to study abroad - in Italy!
  15. The reason someone would go for dental work in Thailand, is because it's supposedly 'cheap'. If one wants 'cheap', India, Bangladesh, or, perhaps, Turkey, might be other choices.
  16. Damn, there goes the chance of getting meaningful investment...
  17. I will never get those 30 seconds (for reading such "news") back...
  18. He's also the world's biggest eater of Som Tum, Phat Thai, and Thom Yum Goong...
  19. You're not the only one. Money seems to be (I'm wording it carefully) the main reason for a Thai woman in a relationship with a foreigner. I met, what I thought was the love of my life, but the relationship had numerous up and downs. I realised too late that the woman I loved did not care much about me, but rather my money only. Fortunately, I didn't marry her. - In a Thai-foreigner relationship I would not expect feelings of love (anymore), but more like a companionship where one partner is just there for financial gain.
  20. Yes, because they want to help Thailand. And they probably build it for free...
