  1. I've used my K-Bank debit card for online flight bookings in Thailand, AUS, and NZ. The only website where it never worked is AirAsia's.
  2. Wonder, how the restaurant owner knew about the customer's address.
  3. I presume a Thai took the pics, and Thais, well, prefer to talk about other people, not to them...
  4. Nothing for free in money-hungry Thailand. What they "give" you as a gift into your left pocket, they pick out of your right...
  5. Wonder, why the tour company let an inexperienced person do that then. That is unless he ignored their advice.
  6. A "lost year" for Thailand thanks to politics? Add it to the decades already lost...
  7. Thumbs up to her for having an independent mind. Being critical of your home country is nothing special in most countries.
  8. Just read in "P. Mail" that the "modest surge" in tourists lasted for only two days, i.e. 28th-29th.
  9. I like it. Call my ex-girlfriend, telling her about the lottery win, and that I want to 'share with her'. Going to meet her with maid in tow, giving her $1, but the French maid $300,000 (payable after her employment, so that she doesn't quit)...
  10. 200 dollars for a bottle of wine?? (Am I supposed to keep it in a safe?) Perhaps I'd hire a crew to shove and pull me up safely Mt. Everest (no helicopter, thanks), also cordon off the route for a day or two just to give me a headstart to the crowds...
  11. I like the occasional glass of red wine, but I would still keep away from what is on shelves in Thailand. (Either undrinkable, or ridiculously expensive.) Instead I'd probably pay 10$ a bottle more when in Oz, asking myself at the same time whether this is not too extravagant... I never cared about money. (As long as I could pay my bills.) - 1 million dollars extra? My lifestyle wouldn't change much, besides spending a bit more for travelling. And the rest would be for possible medical emergencies.
  12. Probably includes baby formula (shelves full for non-existing Chinese customers), cheese, and butter.
  13. The professionals go into politics, aiming for the big cash.
  14. Me too. Business class because of the scant legroom in Coach. But I wouldn't spend the money for First Class; what a waste...
  15. and then what? just keep it for security? Show off the balance (or part of it) at Immigration when extending a retirement visa, having the IOs line up and kowtow for a small tip... Then again, winning 1 million dollars, I'd probably head for greener pastures.
  16. 1 million? Yawn, at least make it interesting. How about a billion dollars as someone recently won in the U.S. Powerball...
  17. I think the Thais are used to that, as things here have never been different. Most leaders did enrich themselves while they were in power, had a firm grip of the country as (military) dictators, or both. And the few who didn't, did not last long in power. IMHO this won't change until the masses are both, better educated and thinking for themselves.
  18. Yes, some topics (debt, tourism, economic outlook, etc.) seem to be posted twice or thrice from different sources within days...
  19. Makes you wonder how 'safe' the commercial banks are...
  20. Good to know. I'd imagine that the difference in procedure is because of Vietnam's and Malaysia's different visa policies.
  21. Well, that may be true for individuals, but I read that the opposite is more likely, i.e. younger/future generations having a lower IQ due to different, less challenging and demanding lifestyles. Yes, they may be more acquainted with anything IT, and the latest gadgets. But how many of them will have read as many books in their youth as some of the older folks did, and how many were as active as kids, rather than just being glued to their smartphones all day?
  22. Good to know, thanks. So, if I were denied, instead of being detained, could I just ask Immigration to let me go back airside to make my own arrangements for a flight out?
