Honda ADV 160 (2025) – Stiff Suspension: Should I Upgrade?
pookett replied to vento's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Just to add to this topic. We picked one up and are very pleased thus far. The tyres were pumped up way too far as usual. Once corrected the ride is smooth enough. Re an earlier post of easily steering off line, correcting the tyre pressures eliminated this as well. The thing that did annoy was the available space between the tyre valve and the spoke-cross(front) or hub(rear). It's a bit of a struggle to squeeze the pump's tube head on, poor design there. -
Thanks for the thought. Everything except the depth would be ok. Even the 180 turn can be changed to 90 by using the old limiter collar.

I'm trying to find a replacement lock for a small safe. It's a cam lock with tubular key, 16mm mount with 20mm depth and a cranked lever, the lock passing through 90 degrees only. I have found many with a straight lever but with a different size fixing so I cannot swap the levers from old to new. Does anyone know a shop that would hold these in stock (presumably an old style) in central Phuket? TIA

Ahhh, you still have it up in Patts. Unfortunately no CJ down here (Phuket).

I haven't seen the Carabao Dunkel on the shelves anywhere for some time now. Have they been squeezed off the market for daring to make a decent beer? Back on the Laos Dark for now...

Do you wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle in Thailand?
pookett replied to MalcolmB's topic in General Topics
Helmet 100%, a decent open face one. I need my head intact! Guilty of not wearing any other real bike riding protection gear on my scoot. Big-bike trips I will don my full face lid, proper jacket, gloves and boots, trousers have some knee pads. -
Over 1,000 detained in Thai nominee crackdown on foreign businesses
pookett replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Very odd headline spot lighting 3 Brits instead of over 700 money grabbing Thais, fully complicit and possibly/probably offering the service in the first place. Let's not dwell on that one eh, damn falangs!- 66 replies

If a dish is way off normal flavour standards or simply not to my taste, I'll try and fix it with condiments or quietly ask if the kitchen could "adjust" it. On the odd occasion when the food is badly cooked or suspicious in freshness, I'll simply push it aside uneaten. The staff usually ask why and are quietly informed, usually volunteering to remove the dish from the bill. In good quality restaurants I will always reject over/under cooked food, as they are supposed to have much higher standards.

Foreign pickup driver flees after crashing into Thai woman in Phuket
pookett replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
When in Thailand, do as the Thais do.😉 This farang has learned by example. Still wrong and should not have left the scene, unless he has something else to hide of course! If not, roll up to the cop shop with a cheesy smile and a wai ( and a few baht ). -
Between the two the Scoopy will last longer. Both are decent enough but the Fino, as with the Filano, suffer from slightly feeble front suspension set up, meaning a hefty bump can result in a full rebuild. The Scoopy set up is far more forgiving. However, if you want an almost indestructible ride, get a Wave.

Thailand's Schengen-Style Visa Proposal Faces Hurdles
pookett replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Thailand’s well-developed tourism infrastructure" 🤣 It can't cope now! An Asean (Schengen) visa is a great idea but why does Thailand think they can control it as an obligatory conduit. I see the other members jumping at that idea....not. -
Changing New Passport Number At Bank
pookett replied to connda's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Just to add an exception to the rule. I went into my BKK branch to get a new debit card. As my new passport had recently materialised I took it and the old one. I handed over the old PP for the process. The young lady says "Oh, this passport is cancelled, did you know". I replied yes and I brought it because it is the one you have on record, I also have the new one to update your records. "No need, the old one is fine." At which point I took a phone call but on returning to the service desk forgot to insist on the update 🤦🏻♂️. -
Need to purchase new tabletop gas burner. Suggestions?
pookett replied to bamboozled's topic in General Topics
Here's a Rinnai 3 burner for the price of a decent meal for two at a proper restaurant... Rinnai 3 burners A good point on condo rules for gas, worth checking for general readers here. Fire regs and insurance limitations apply. I'm guessing the OP is in the clear as he's replacing one. -
Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
pookett replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well done Einstein! Of course they are increasing year on year SINCE the Covid low. If they were not there would be very severe problems. That the figures have not RECOVERED faster is the disappointment, there's a long way to go and Thailand, obviously, wants to get back to and beyond the 2019 high a.s.a.p. -
Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
pookett replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's a bit of a desperate move from Thailand as, despite the data TAT churn out, real tourism in Thailand is still in the doldrums. "They" are thrashing around trying to boost figures to the hay-day 40mil. pax a year, still blind to the facts that Thailand simply does not have the infrastructure, enforced standards & safety, sanitory mechanisms or even water supplies that are required to attract, support and expand repeat mass tourism. To the moaners on the "sucker" visas, TIT! Rules and regulations change at the drop of a hat without any concern on how they fit with other existing RnRs, should have seen that one coming. -
The killer of seven (or maybe more)…jing-joks
pookett replied to Gecko123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
They certainly do! We had a particular room with tons of jing-juks until Terrence the Tookay moved in. In a month or two all JKs were gone and Terrence had grown significantly. Unfortunately Terrence was a noisy S.O.B. so I had to evict him. ( captured and carted off to a distant field for release, maybe a small snake had a nice fat meal? Yes, Gordon the Golden tree snake, I'm looking at you! ) -

British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
pookett replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"The Department for Work and Pensions maintains that information about the financial implications of moving abroad is available on its website." ...as of 24 years ago???? Yeah right! Plus, ALLLLLL retiree age folk were all over the fledgling internet back then.🤦🏻♂️ Just pathetic Governmental twattery...If they stopped the undeserved handouts there would be plenty to sort this, fix the NHS and give money where it's truly needed/deserved e.g. ex-armed forces, genuinely needy British Citizens etc. -
