  1. Oh, I didn't need to do the tests or re-watch the video when I renewed my 5 year licences last time. I assumed the same this time. In this situation I'll need to rethink the plan. Obviously start with the online test and then get an appointment booked.
  2. Because my Oz licence expires on the same day and that is a 5 year licence but I have to visit Oz now at my age for an eyesight test to renew it. I have successfully hired a car in UK previously using my Thai license. I also use the Thai licence to ride a scooter in Vietnam. Therefore I find my Thai licences are valuable and relatively easy licence to renew.
  3. I go to Chiang Mai Ram Skin Clinic for annual check-ups now and Dr Amy burns a few spots with the liquid nitrogen. Previously, as in 7 years ago on my first visit she burnt 10 spots and I was going back every 3 months until she got them all (37 spots) over a year period. I then went to 6 monthly visits for a couple of years and now annually. Costs were 2,000 - 2,800 baht each visit.
  4. I now have a rental lease agreement for the whole month of August because I've paid upfront and asked for a lease/receipt. I'm happy to pay the (previously) 500 baht for a two day CofR turnaround at CM Immigration. I'll have a medical and photocopy all the documents as soon as I arrive. I'll also book an appointment at DLT online. I don't think I need to do the written test nor watch the video again as I've had my 'conversion' licence for 7 (2+5) years already ? As only one (of 3) of the 'Visa Agents' in CM replied, I think my best plan of action is to try myself at DLT and if they say "only 2 years available as you have a visa waiver" then I'll ask "is there somebody like an agent who can help me obtain 5 years?"
  5. Star Visa have replied that they can only assist with a 2 year renewal 😞
  6. Thanks for the replies. I won't apply for METV as it doesn't sound like it will help me anymore than a visa waiver. I will attempt to renew myself and if I'm told 2 years then I'll stop the process and contact an agent. I've never used an agent for anything but a quick search found two prominent ones 1. StarVisa 2. Chiang Mai Visa Stop 3. Also Chiang Mai Buddy as mentioned in the post above. Any preference?
  7. It's simple, it's because Thailand has banned vaping. And because bank accounts are being frozen if you can't show a non-immigrant visa. And because the THB is too strong. And far too many Indians. And tour boats sink, zip lines break...
  8. Hi all, Sorry for yet another Driving Licence post but after reading through many many posts, I still can't find my exact situation. Context: Australian Passport (new, since last driving licence issue) Currently hold valid 5 year driving licences (expire end July 2025) obtained whilst on ED Visa in 2020 Plan to arrive on 60 day Visa Waiver Do have a 1 month apartment booked with receipt in Chiang Mai Aim: Renew driving licences (car & m/c) for 5 years (plus bonus 360 odd days) Requirements (and questions): 1. Certificate of Residence (CofR): Can I arrive on a 60 day Visa Waiver and obtain a CofR at Chiang Mai Immigration office a few days after I land (to give the hotel time to register me) ? OR do I need to apply for a METV even though I plan on only staying 1 month (1st-31st August 2025) ? Also, what do I need to submit to process a CofR? Passport photocopy? Apartment Lease / Receipt ? Anything else? 2. Medical Certificate: Previously I just paid for one original certificate and took a photocopy (for the 2nd licence). Still viable? 3. Existing Driving Licence: Do I only require my Thai licences ? Do I need to photocopy them before going to DLT ? OR do I need my 'home' Oz licence to be valid and shown / photocopied ? 4. Appointment: Does Chiang Mai require a booked appointment via https://www.dlt.go.th ? 5. Photocopies: Passport Bio Page, Visa Waiver Stamp. Anything else? Medical Certificate photocopy for the 2nd licence application. CofR do I need to photocopy this for the 2nd licence application ? And of course is there anything else that I may have missed? Thanks in advance!
  9. I did about 3 years ago at Europcar but they also wanted to see a return flight ticket to Thailand. So it was rented under the guise of a Thai 'resident' ie somebody living in Thailand for many years with only a Thai drivers licence.
  10. We don't really want DTV people here anyway. Apart from paying for accommodation and eating, they won't be spending money in the country. I can't wait to see how Thailand handles its attempt at Taxation 😁
  11. They were being ripped off anyway! Usually 2 x 200 baht = 400 baht and yet this story makes the ASEAN headlines!
  12. That's what I did, I kept the box of 8m THB a secret. OMG I can't believe I just told everyone 🙄
  13. My friend said that he used to be his local meth dealer 😂
  14. Distracted by a fat brown envelope maybe?
  15. Most of the people I know in Pattaya don't know if they are coming or going anyway!
  16. Where is Quảng Ninh? Never heard of it and I'm sure there's is no airport or train nearby. As Vietnamese are banned from gambling, it would be for tourists and expats. It doesn't make business sense to me, so maybe it's a method to clean dirty money!
  17. A good start would be the ability to reissue TRC / Work Permit if lost, damaged or stolen. Because Vietnam require a complete new application in these situations. Currently taking about 3 months to get the above, not 36 days (unless they mean business days!)
  18. For the reasons to return to Thailand, is it possible to just list ALL the reasons why you wouldn't want to stay in UK? Stabbings, scams, climate, poor service quality, expensive, racist etc 😁
  19. It happened to me last year with booking.com too. I live in Chiang Mai and went to Pattaya for a week of 'sightseeing ' only to find the hotel existed but was shut. I got a refund after a couple of weeks but the property was still available to book on booking.com for weeks after the event. Whilst we were there, at the shut hotel, another couple came to check in too! They used Agoda.
  20. I used to waste so much time on Facebook but now find most wasted time is reading (and laughing or cringing) at these 'stories'
  21. There's no announcement of a Retirement Visa just Golden,Investor and Talent. The $ amounts will probably be set at a ridiculous threshold for the Golden Visa and people rich enough will probably choose a non-Asian country to reside anyway! Investor visas exist today in VN but the minimum amount has been progressively increasing to around $1m USD currently! Too risky in my view (if I even had the money). Talent visa meh!
  22. People still travel to BKK for non-emergencies eg teeth, tits; as it is cheaper with more experienced doctors
  23. They should stick with flying submarines instead!
  24. Quality news headlines! My mate had his bag snatched with his passport inside last night in Pattaya...that's even more interesting
  25. He was black and blue in the morning
