  1. She is mentally and physically exhausted from working 15 hours per day, 7 days a week and at the same time having teeth problems which only allow her to eat soup for the last 10 days. When I say her Thai is excellent, I may have exaggerated, because mine isn't. So anyone who can speak a whole sentence of Thai and read Thai seems to have a good command of the language as compared to me. ???? I have asked her about her employer and her agent, and she definitely says she is going through an agent. So the two don't seem to have a connection, and she pays the agent out of her own pocket, but again, our communication ability is limited, so I couldn't vouch for that 100%.
  2. I don't believe she has been in Thailand before. She just arrived recently. But she did send me the visa and wp, so I anonymized it and posted it below - maybe that can remove some confusion about this issue.
  3. Hm, thanks a lot for the information. All those requirements seem quite onerous. Now I understand the value added by the agent: (S)he probably connects a business that fulfills the above requirements with a business who doesn't but needs cheap labor. My acquaintance is working at a small restaurant with a staff of about 2 or 3, which just opened a few months ago, so I doubt the business can fulfill above requirements. So I guess she has to pay the 15.000 baht for the agent's services, even though really the business should help her in my opinion, since they are the ones that benefit most from the cheap labor.
  4. Thank you so much for your explanation. Exactly what documents does she need from her employer? Does she have to go to the Department of Employment first, or Immigration first - what's the sequence? Could you describe the process and the requirements a little bit more in detail, please.
  5. Hello, a girl from Laos working at a restaurant I ate at told me she has to work 2 jobs from 10am to 1am every day 7 days a week to pay for the extension of her work permit. She said it costs 15.000 THB. I asked her if she is using an agent and she said yes. Her English is not that good but her Thai is excellent. So I wonder: Why is she compelled to us an agent? Why can she not do it herself? Is it ignorance of the process or are there compelling reasons to use an agent? I asked her to show me her passport and she has a Non-Immigrant Visa in Category L-A issued in Nov 2022 which is stamped "used". She also has a work permit card expiring in February 2023. I wonder if she cannot save a lot of money and her health (because she seems totally exhausted from her work schedule and mentally discouraged) by going to immigration herself and extending the work permit without an agent - or are there certain circumstances which I am not aware of. Could you please tell me what she can do so that I could relay that information to her or explain the reasoning why she should use an agent? Thanks for your help.
  6. Even for ThaiVisa this a pretty creepy post-halloween thread.
  7. Ah, I think I understand now why you recommend to do two transactions a few days apart for 400k each 3 months into my 1st extension: Because for 3 months I need to show the full 800k, and after that I only need to show 400k in the account for the next 6 months. So this way I can show for the full 3 onths 800k and afterwards always can show I have the full 400k, even if they may find fault with the short transfer periods, they cannot complain that there was a very short point in time when the 400k wasn't there. Ok, that's a good idea to play it safe like that. Thank you everybody for your explanations.
  8. Or can anyone confirm that CM IO accepts copies of a pass book without an additional statement?
  9. You are saying the bike will be unregistered if 7 years of unpaid road tax have accumulated? So basically 7 years from now? And what about the rolled up certificate in your picture: Can I get this from the insurance company after paying the premium, or can I only get this after having paid the road tax AND the insurance premium?
  10. Hm, that is news to me. I don't think Chiang Mai Immigration will accept copies of pass books without a statement accompanying it.
  11. How long after insurance expiry will it be removed?
  12. Thank you for your replies. Yes. correct, I plan to keep 800k all year round in the bank. Now something isn't clear to me here: When I apply for my 2nd extension in more than a year, I will need to show that I adhered to the 800k for 3 months in the bank rule. So that would mean, I then need to still provide a 12 months statement from my Bangkok Bank account (to show that I have 800k after the 1st extension - so I don't get around this annoying 1 week wait to get 12 months statement from Bangkok Bank) plus a 12 months statement from my new bank, since you advised me to transfer 400k (why not the full 800k?) after 3 months in from my 1st extension.
  13. That's exactly the problem. I do not have a copy or the actual green book. So that would mean, I cannot get the sticker to pass a police check point, correct!?
  14. Hello, I have a Non-O based on retirement with 800k in bank. I wish to change banks away from Bangkok Bank, because their 1 week wait to get a 12 month statement is annoying for me. My Non-O was issued in Chiang Mai in September, and I plan to apply for my extension a few weeks early in November. What do I need to consider when changing banks now, or would there be a better reason to change banks and transfer the 800k after I got my first extension? Thanks for your help.
  15. Do I need to bring anything else except the fee and the rolled up proof of insurance?
  16. Hello, a friend left me a motorcycle while away on a trip and said I can use it, if I want. Now the absence has become more extended and the insurance ran out by the end of August. Since I would like to use the motorscooter once in a while, I wonder if I can go to an insurance company in Chiang Mai with the rolled up proof of insurance affixed to the license plate of the bike and just pay for an insurance renewal, which I think should be around 300 THB and get a new proof of insurance with the huge year printed on it, so that I will be fine again. Can I do it? Any pitfalls to watch out for?
  17. Yes - calls AND SMS http://www.dtac.co.th/en/info/dtac-call.html And you don't need to keep the SIM card in the phone this way.
  18. Since the whole TM6 thing when entering Thailand has been abandoned a few weeks ago, do we need to have new TM87 forms when applying for a Non-O, or is it acceptable to immigration to use the old forms and simply leave the section pertaining to TM6 empty?
  19. How will you get to the train station from BKK - metro or taxi? Have you checked the exact prices? How fast is the shipping? Would you do it the other way around too? BTW Excess baggage on Thai Airways BKK-CNX is 50 THB/kg Online and 60 THB/kg at the airport. https://www.thaiairways.com/en_TH/travel_information/baggage.page?section=3 https://www.thaiairways.com/en_TH/before_you_fly/additional_services/excess_baggage.page? So it seems you can do your 26 kg for 1300 THB if you prepurchase online at least 12 hours before the flight.
  20. @Dean1953 I don't really understand what you are trying to say.
  21. Would it be possible to send a 25 or 30 kg suitcase TO this post office and then pick it up before flying out?
  22. Correction: will apply for a non-O within a few days after arrival.
  23. I am going to Thailand in August and I have a return ticket for next year April. I am coming in as Visa exempt and will apply for a non-OA within a few days after arrival. Is my return ticket sufficient, or does it need to be a return ticket within 30 days after arrival?
  24. Then they probably also added credit to your balance. You can extend by topping up too. So you have a choice: topping up (which is beneficial when you actually use your credit) or the *113* method, which is beneficial to you when you don't use your card much.
