I am hoping to return to Thailand permanently by the end of this year and have a residence with my common law wife in Khon Kaen.
I have had 2 accounts with Siam Commercial Bank for several years, having lived in Thailand for 7 years before returning to England in 2012 to look after my father who has now passed away.
One of the accounts is a regular savings account i.e a current account and the other a Fixed Deposit Account.
When I sell my property in England which is currently going through, my plan was to send about 1 million baht to the Fixed Deposit Account by way of telegraphic transfer and leave it there for the required period in order to get my 1 year extension of stay.
However upon recently visiting a branch of SCB in Khon Kaen I told by one of their English speaking staff of my intention and she told me that it is not possible to transfer money into that account telegraphically and that the money will need to be sent to the savings account and then transferred over to the Fixed Deposit Account by doing a personal visit.
I find it difficult to believe that I can't do it by way of direct transfer but would appreciate hearing from anyone who has encountered this problem, or indeed managed to do a successful transfer in the manner I was proposing.
many thanks
Just transfer it into your savings account and then transfer it into that fixed account don't listen to most of these people that don't know what they're talking about and they love to say no

You been in a Western Country recently mate?
As an aside, everyone should be treated equally under the law, so if a foreigner commits an actual offence then they should be punished but they should also be treated fairly under the law and not subject to prejudice and presumptions of guilt. All of which is above Anutins head as he just likes to go on occasional parochial rants to distract from his own myriad failings 🙂
There is great tolerance for ethnic groups in Western countries. They get more benefits than. Western people. everybody's so scared to offend the immigrants and the men. and the minorities that its reverse racism these days. So yes, they do behave like animals and get away with it. Bring them. their <deleted> from their own countries and want to implement it to the West where they reside. Now make their ghettos and their villages. They call it culture and religion, but they just want to live somewhere nice but bring all the bad things with them. Look around. Open your eyes and see.

how about getting tough on everyone who breaks the law
this idiot can't seem to grasp that foreigners are what this country needs - now more so that ever
sack this belligerent # before he does more damage
I honestly can't figure out how they don't realise that like it or not, we (filthy foreigners) make up 30% of GDP, might be a bit less recently, what is wrong with this idiot, is he so rich he doesn't give a #, well that is probaby 100% correct
Well it's because the comparison with local people who don't do anything wrong or molest minus or steel or anything at all it's all done from these dirty foreigners

So I was browsing the Lazada 4.4 sale and noticed this offer, 75 inch, 16k8.
Everyone keeps on going on about inflation, but last time I looked a 75 inch TV was around 35,000bht.
Obviously it might be junk but reviews are good, 3 year guarantee, Android Tv, free delivery.
Offer only on mobile app, still priced at 20k+ on website.
What could possibly go wrong?
Good one and there should be more reporting like this you should be phuket's leading reporter I love it should have a website dedicated to shopping and ratings and reviews yes buy and let us know how it goes

1. Pay a decent salary
2. Supply all equipment required to do the job, free of charge. (I understand traffic cops have to buy and maintain their own motorbikes, I don't know if they have to buy their own uniforms)
3. No on the spot fines, all fines must be paid at the court.
4. All weapons to be supplied by the force and checked and maintained by an armourer. When a policeman is retired, sacked or suspended all weapons should be handed in and accounted for.
5. Proper investigation of corrupt practice by an independent authority
Policing can be a dangerous job police run towards trouble when prudent citizens run away. Police officers can feel alienated from the people that they protect and think they may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb so start taking bribes.
They pay for their own guns that's why you see some relics of course maintain to support condition

Surely you got it all wrong. They spend it on all worthwhile causes like hospitals and roads and taking care of the needy. None. of the money goes into pockets of anybody who does not need it.

I wish they did the same for the Thai people.. Than it is justified because everybody has to follow the laws.. But now it are only the foreigners are being checked.. How many Thais are driving drunk, with no helmets or drivers licenses or under influence of drugs or smoke e cigarettes.. It surely seems that the Thais are superior and can do as they please, while others have to follow the laws.. More Catholic than than the pope?
Then firearms. And molesting. underage relatives and so on and so on and so on. But. who pays? There has to be money involved to be of interest.

Looking for some advice please. We own a bungalow in a secure development in Thailand and last week somebody entered the site and has stolen the mains electric cable to our property. They disconnected it at the meter attached to a lamp post on the roadside outside my property and I’m guessing they got underneath the house and cut the cable where it runs up to the fusebox inside the house. The person who owns the development is trying to say that we have to pay for the cost of replacing the cable which I won’t be as I claimed that we pay a service charge which includes security of the development, which to be honest is almost non existent. Five properties on the same development were targeted, all of which were unoccupied at the time. If the owner of the site won’t budge I’ll just withhold next years service charge, that should cover the cost of a replacement cable, surely it can’t be that expensive? Anyone experienced anything like this? Cheers.
Yes 8 minutes was taken from the box to the house three detectors investigated the investigation is ongoing one year now then nothing has turned up of course

Looking at the video, while you cannot see the point of impact, it appears that the car just drifted off the road to the left and collided with Oat, killing him. Did the driver fall asleep? And then the vehicle veers off to the other (wrong) side of the road. At the very least, the driver should be charged with negligent driving causing death. It might not have been intentional.
It appears the foreigner was a 60-year old German and he fled from his home following the accident.
Police went to his home the next morning to investigate and breath-tested the driver then but by then it showed no alcohol....which is hardly unexpected as it was the next day.
No, depending on amount consumed but from what I know can most likely detect alcohol the next day...

Just my luck, I returned back from the DLT and the GF looks at my newly minted motorbike and auto licenses and tells me they the wrong room number 347 instead of 547 of the condo we stay at on the back of the license. Is this something I need to go back and correct it or something I shouldn't worry about.
That is a good question and here is my take on it first of all nobody cares let me explain the government makes the license right but despite this you still have to go to immigration for a residency certificate to do anything you can show your license to people but they don't care the address on the back it's pointless and ridiculous

let me give you little history lesson on background and family since you such a proud Australian.
Despite basic false history you were taught that Australia began with political refugees, it did not.
Australia began with peasant soldiers who were brought over to colonize the land. To keep peasants happy, hookers were also brough over.
So your true beginnings is a peasant father and an army hooker mother.
Proud Australian? lol.. your funny,,, give your lesson to those interested..

Is it not standard that one needs to keep a certain distance behind when following a car or motorcycle ahead so that one can stop in time to avoid a collision.
Nevertheless, an increasing number of aggressive foreign visitors in Thailand are having an impact and changing the culture in Thailand.
The way Thais will perceive foreigners is only going to get worse as the govt tries to increase the number of foreigners visiting Thailand to 150 million.
useless driving education does not help.. then you see nong lackbrain braking 2 meters in front of a fully laden cement truck and wondering why he got run over...

I question a lot of what they ask for, lol. But you know, i just smile and say ok. I've given up trying to understand the 'why'.
A lot of the time they don't know either.. it just comes out .... the irrelevant questions... perhaps its the thought process paths not coming up with anything logical so it just chooses a random irregularity... this happens in any topic..
indeed an interesting topic for the Dr's ..
