Show them your visa to prove it was issued long before the insurance requirements went into effect if try to make a problem.

They may not notice your visa since you are using a re-entry permit to enter the country.

That won't work becuase the police order clearly says entry will be dienied (no matter when the visa was granted). It also says, if the person is inside Thailand it is OK to not have a health insurance. IOs have become bold denying entry to TV/METV visa holders and now they are fishing for O-A visa holders. I also doubt the embassies will start requiring health insurance to issue visa. They may issue visa without insurance for sometimes in the near future.

How can they enforce something that was not in effect when the visa was issued. Are they going to deny a entry when using a visa that was issued 11 months ago?

There is no mention of the requirements being retroactive.

Sure they can deny entry. What are you going to do? As they deny entries to TV/METV holders based on not having money to live in Thailand, they can deny people based on not having money to live in Thailand (they cant buy insurance is implied).

I have an OA visa issued in london 29th August, I am due to enter this weekend , my wife with same visa due to enter 31 Oct can anyone tell me if they will refuse enter in the already issued visas as I don’t have the health insurance ?

My thinking is that in most cases they won't refuse entry but they won't give you one year permission to stay, instead they may give you 30-day visa exempt entry. In the worst case schenario, they may refuse you entry.

I find it odd that the order talks about time of entry rather than issuance if the visa. Point of issuance of the visa would be the logical (and indeed only feasible IMO) time for revirwing insurance documents.

The reason it says at the time of entry is to give power to IOs to deny entry to people they feel like irrespective of their visa type. Nothing can be done when an IO denies entry based on not having a health insurance. The police order is a simple ploy to empower IOS. Right now they cant deny entry to retirees like they do to TV, METV, SETV, EDs, etc. This will give them a weapon to deny entry randomly. Of course if one does not leave Thailand and spend their entire year in Thailand, they don't have to worry.

ability of IOs to read let alone comprehend  foreign policy documents. Let alone busy IOs at airports and border crossings with long lines of people to process.

For foreign policy you need to get a certificate that clearly shows in patient and out patient limits. I have a catastoric  insurance from United Health with a HSA account. I have been putting 3K every year and the HSA account has more than half a million BHT. Not sure If I can use money fom the HSA account to buy me a Thai insurance. I used my HSA master card in Bangkok Hospital and it was accepted without any  problems.

Exactly the problem. Though many inpatient only policies do cover outpatient costs (to limits far above 40K) in certain circumstances.

Mine for example covers, up to USD 1 million, outpatient cancer care and dialysis as well as outpatient care follow up after a hospitalization. And day surgeries.

How an Io would interpet that -- from fairly complicated policy documents in English - I can't imagine.

IOs will only verify insurance from an approved insurerer or a certificate from foreign insurer. Yes, there will be fraud in foreign insurance certifcation. When it becomes a huge issue, they will address it just like all other problems in this country.

When and how will the insurance be checked? The wording seems to imply it would be on each entry. I really can't picture how that would work.......

It clearly says check will be done at the entry point. Of course, if one does not leave Thailand and confine onself in the hellhole of Thailand for the entire year, he does not have to worry about anything.

At this time I would assume it is for those issued after the order goes into effect.

A bit hard to enforce it for a visa that was issued this month for example since the insurance was not required. Would immigration deny entry in that case.

I think immigration will have to clarify that.

As of today insurance is still not required for a OA according to the MFA or Consular Affairs website and two embassies I checked.

Misinformation. It is based on entry not when the visa was issued. One can buy insurance 6-months after the visa was issued. It is at the entry, the immigration will decide if they will let you enter or not depending on if you have a health insuirance or not. No insurance and no entry. I bet it applies radomly to any type of visa including retirement extension with renetry permit. Yes yes yes I know it is not mentioned in the police order. But immigration can deny anybody without a health insurance and nothing anbody can do about it.

Sure they are going to deny entry. They may randomly strart denying entry for people with extension. What r u going to do? Just like they deny Tourist visas, METV, Ed visas etc for the lack of func to remain in Thailand. Wait for report to pour in for retirees denyed entry for the lack of health insurance.

  10. That's a very stupid answer to a serious question. Who cares about what you think about immigration rules? Today, the official requirement is to report within 3 days after arrival from abroad at Jomtien Immigration. Then it's of course up to everyone if they will obey the rules or not.
So, if you don't report what happens? Are they going to ban me? Put me in jail? What will happen when I don't report?

  11. Hi can anyone just clarify something for me ..i arrive in thailand in a few weeks i have an apartment in jomtien ..do i have to report to imigration within 24 hours seeing that im not staying at a hotel ..even tho on the arrival and departure cards we fill in i put my address ..do i still have to go in person  thanks for any help
no need to report anything. I never report anything. Come and go. Of course I don't visit immigration office. My only encounter with immigration is at the airport. I refuse to submit myself to the humiliation and inconveniences of land border crossing as I am not a migrant worker.

  12. Hi,

I will move from a condo in Pattaya to an other condo in Pattaya.
The landlord can do online TM30.
Do I have to go to Jomtien immigration anyway and fill the TM28 form?
If that the case, what docs do I need? New online TM30 registration screenshot, new contract, anything else....?

    Thanks
I have moved my condo more than a dozen times in the last 15 years and no document needed except cash. Used even my credit cards for a couple of places. Don't understand why I need document. Yes most places want to check your passport and nothing else. Of course they want money . Have not found any free condo yet.

  13. I don't see any issue with your entry in Bangkok airport. All the issues I noticed are for people who are trying to live in Thailand (and most proably working remote). Reading all these reports I am guessing that IOs have become very adept at recognizing people who live here on tourist visas. Anoher plus point is you're coming with your wife and that elminates the reason for staying in Thailand for a single person on tourist visa who has succumbed to the  lure of Thailand and its brothel culture. Remember that close to 40 million people pass though Thailand's airport and they deny only a fraction (less than 1%) and IOs can smell the people as on as they present their passport.

do you mean that you are required to file a tax return - and pay tax on your income - if you are in one of those countries in addition to having to file and pay in your home country?

I don't know about European countries' rules but for the USA you first pay tax in your country of residnce (estmate will do) and then deduct those taxes from you US obligation. US citizens mus pay tax for world wide incomes irrespective of country of residence. That's one of the reason many wealthy Americans give up their passport and acquie foreign passports. Of course, it is out of the reach for most so called digital nomads desperately trying to live in Thailand on unhygenic street foods, somtam and 40-baht pork soup. and 6K one room apartment and posting videos of cheap living in YouTube hoping to strike it big.

If I fly into Bangkok hoping to get a tourist stamp on arrival will I definitely need to show an on going air ticket. Would the 20,000 baht suffice in lieu of a ticket. Endless questions these days with immigration they way it has become.

Immigration has not become anything and no new rules were implemented recently. The requirement for 10K for visa exempt entry is not a recent one. It is only the  people who are used to lax immigration rule have started complaining and it is amplified by people posting their own storey in this forum. I have been coming to Thailand for more than 15 years and never caried any cash until recently when I started to carry 20K in my bag.

  16. I'm surprised a 'wealthy young person' would even try to enter Thailand.
Plenty of nicer places where he would actually be welcome.

None of them ever mention why they are so desperate to come here.
10 years back sure, but now, totally beats me.
Ten years back the lure of Thailand was better and cheaper due to weak baht

  17. Good luck for your next time. You should have accepted the offer for 100 USD for a neighboring country flight. Much better than an expensive/long flight back to Canada.

Lessons learned: do not fly into Thailand from far away unless you have retirement/marriage/Elite visa etc.
Fly to Malaysia or another neighboring country and then into TH so your way back is shorter if something goes wrong.
I would have bargained for entry for $100 USD not to another country. Paying $100 gives more leverage to bargain hard for my benefits.

  18. I think every IO through out the world has the same power - to deny entry even with a visa.

If they believe Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff in embassies are issuing visas improperly, they should take it up with the MFA. It is just not reasonable that they override the decision of the embassy to issue the visa, and simply state that you are denied entry because you should not have been issued that visa. That is really precisely what they are doing.
