  1. I never said ‘staying in the EU’ I pointed out the damage being done by the totally unnecessary Tory decision to leave the Customs Union, which nobody voted for. If you are going to make a claim of attending 2 of the Best British Universities as part of your argument then you’ll accept the criticism that they didn’t introduce you to the importance of addressing the arguments made, not the arguments you wish were made.
  2. I suggest you read the article, then let me know if it’s’just the Guardian’.
  3. Your assertion of misogyny is in need of evidence that the criticisms of Truss are made on the basis of her gender and not on her abundant failings. Nobody is becoming ‘hysterical’ every time she makes a decision, though she has been known to spook the financial markets.
  4. And here’s what the UK press have to say: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2022/oct/20/utter-chaos-what-the-papers-say-as-suella-braverman-quits-and-liz-truss-faces-more-turmoil
  5. The Uk could have left the EU but remained in the Customs Inion (you recall the ‘Norwegian Option’). But that’s not what the ERG wanted, so the Tories opted for the hardest Brexit they could get. No body voted to be poorer, but poorer they are.
  6. The fact that ‘Schadenfreude’ is a German word makes it sweeter.
  7. I’m not at all interested in whataboutary, and pointing out the factual failings is not ‘Bashing’. Have you seen Home Secretary Braverman’s resignation letter? 43 days in office, gone already.
  8. Up next - Austerity 2, the sequel.
  9. You could indeed, the best place for which would be the ‘Thailand’ sub forum.
  10. The recession has started and inflation is up again. These I guess are the promised ‘sunny uplands’.
  11. Not that I would offer the slightest sympathy, but Truss is a fit for the ‘Glass Cliff’: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_cliff
  12. So you have a problem with the voting choices of other Americans.
  13. Link your reply please, so I can check if you actually replied to the question.
  14. I’d call that the kind of simplistic reductionism that is a foundation of racism. That aside, why do you ask?
  15. You should open a thread on the topic. This isn’t it.
  16. But you judge others on the basis of their non-Buddhist religion beliefs. Did the significance of that escape you?!
  17. I don’t agree with that particular list. Again, for the forth time: Do you agree there are statements and ‘go to arguments’ that are characteristic of racists? Or is it your contention that nobody can conclude another person is a racist on the basis of the statements and arguments they put forward?
  18. Oh, so now you want to apply the list you yourself have been arguing against. Try this for size (third time of asking):
  19. Nonsense. Black immigrants arriving in the UK were overwhelmingly coming from the Caribbean, famously well mannered, polite, Methodist and hardworking. You are using pejorative stereotyping to defend the overt racism of the 1950s. You could save yourself the embarrassment by simply stating ‘yes that was an example of racism at that time.
  20. Please, let’s have less of this feigned ignorance. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_far-right_groups_(1945–present)
  21. The guy who had charge of the National Guard certainly saw it coming, and did nothing about it.
  22. It appears she’s ducking out of this week’s PMQs.
  23. That’s a simplistic view. Very many men have sufficient personal wealth not to work. One of the outcomes of the pandemic was an increase in people considering alternative lifestyles, some folk decided they didn’t ever want to work in an office again, some folk decided they didn’t want to work full time, others decided they just didn’t want to work any more. But it’s not a new phenomenon, here’s evidence it was happening back in 2016 https://www.npr.org/2016/09/06/492849471/an-economic-mystery-why-are-men-leaving-the-workforce I doubt this is a surprise to many expats here in Thailand.
