Well, that was 8 years of government without any future visions for the country.

Better education, better prospects for young people, land reform, aging society and better care for the elderly, strengthening of democratic control institutions, fighting corruption, more efficient administrative processes, "fairer" judiciary, environmental protection, overfishing, better sewage and waste management, police reform, more critical discussions, more unity and compromises, better data protection and consumer rights, higher income for the masses, fairer distribution of income, more transparency in government contracts, less xenophobia,

government and private debt problems, ....... Just to name a few areas.

Unfortunately i don't see any significant improvements in these areas, quite the opposite.

Lets face it, the world hasn't been a basket of dreams since 9/11. I know this is a Thai forum but so many highlight Thai problems as being exclusive to just Thailand. Many western countries are struggling with cultural issues, identity and believe it or not poverty. This does not excuse any failures by whoever has been or will be in power in Thailand.

Unfortunately for Thailand, they are a key player when it comes to present day global faction positioning. They are torn between two major players in the world and It is therefore becoming increasingly difficult to keep both happy. Having the thorn that is Thaksin hanging around as well, releasing disinformation and creating civil unrest, is increasingly taking it's toll on the progression of Thai society. I think right now, stability, though admittedly with draconian measures, is the best the Thai's can hope for.

A small measure of peace and stability is far better than civil strife.

That is the way I see it anyway.

  2. Like most have commented, if there is no sign of anything illegal then I would stay away from the situation. At the end of the day no matter what good your intentions are, you are not the parent of the boy in question. As someone else suggested, if you have a friend who is Thai, tell them the situation and see what they think. They will know if it warrants further action but from what you have told us, I would think they would not want to get involved.

you have more faith in the rhetoric than I. all I can tell you is a doctor in the family explained how the hospital was selectively recording covid deaths and the reality didn't match up with the official dialogue. take that as you will, I don't feel a need to convince anyone, just to pass along relevant information for others.

Sure I can understand that but with so much disinformation, with questionable aims, on this forum right now, I think it is just best for everyone to post links of data to back up their comments.

I was at one in Bangkok near Pratunam

It is truly hilarious and coincidental that you used a picture of a 'mall corridor' in Pratunam. A place, as I mentioned, I know very well. These corridors have pretty much been like this for about two decades ever since MBK opened. Pratunam used to be the centre until MBK opened and then platinum mall took even more shops and businesses away. Usually those upper floors only have a few shops selling fancy dress costumes and university clothing.

5555 so funny you tried to pull this one in a place I know like the back of my hand and used to go to daily to pick up stock for my shops in MBK. Soi 19, great bamee-kiew, corner by Pratunam river taxi stop best khao mun gai, I lived/ owned a place in Soi 15 Pratunam Prestige condo for like 10years.

The decimation and sabotage of a once dynamic industry is nearly complete. They still cannot demonstrate enough courage and wisdom to scrap the pass system. It is a bit like being monitored by big brother. Not a feeling most tourists are comfortable with. Most will simply decide on another destination. Thailand has learned nothing from two years of the shutdown. It is almost as if the current crop of so called leaders are incapable of learning. They still do not seem to understand that Thailand needs tourism 100X more than tourists need Thailand.

The economy here is anemic, at best. Skyrocketing unemployment, homelessness and suicide seems to be Prayuth's version of bringing happiness to the people. The only reasonable conclusion to come to, is that all of this was deliberate, and was a way of cleaning up the place, getting rid of the nightlife, and attempting to get rid of the "industry". Not gonna happen, despite all the foolishness.

Total manipulation of stock images. As if there were never homeless people and abandoned buildings before in Thailand. Next you will be showing us the Ghost Tower of Saphan Thaksin!

I have not encountered a SINGLE THAI in the past two or three years that approves of this regime. I seriously wonder who you are speaking with. Government employees? The status quo right now is a dangerously backward movement of the nation.

Absolutely. Only the youth can bring change, which is drastically needed.

Thinking outside the box is my specialty. I am not on a retainer from the leadership here. Perhaps you should inquire about one? They need the PR now, more than ever.

How about you put your name and address behind some of these brave assertions of yours? 100% you won't because you are a massive charlatan, probably use a VPN to sign in.

how do you think Moody's got it's numbers? could it be from the Thai government?

Jesus, some people. think what you want from the propaganda. most here know to take some salt with it. Vax uptake was slow because the gov't decided not to join the world program, so they had to wait until the member countries got theirs.

If they thought the numbers were dodgy, they wouldn't publish them. Read further down the article and you will see the numbers were observed by international officials as well.

Why not wait for any court cases coming up and looking at the evidence?

With Thaksin there was/is plenty of evidence and he was already convicted a couple of times and many other court cases are still ongoing.

Where are the court cases against Prayut? I would love to hear about evidence against him. And I mean it. If there is evidence then show it and prosecute him.

wow, someone who actually knows what they are talking about. ????

As opposed to the millions he has made destitute and poorer, homeless and jobless due to his willful destruction of the Thai tourism economy.

That's a lie though isn't it? millions? and that hasn't happened to most countries around the world. The unemployment rate has risen a percent or two which with a workforce of 40million would be max 800 000 and even then that would not take into account how many started their own small family businesses like making food for delivery or becoming delivery men since eCommerce boomed with the stay at home stuff.

The misinformation which is thrown about this forum is unbelievable.

it's his own fault - contracting only 2mln of astra zeneca per month.

Even when the AZ offered them large increase his government still refused. They were only for $7.

Then ordering substandard and expensive Chineese vaxes, for $20 per shot. They needed booster within short time. And they are not recognised in many countries for entry. Sinovac has some 15% shares from thai monopolistic conglomerate, the CP.

When made a czar of covid just during the 3rd wave after Songkran 2021 he delayed contracting new vaxes (pfizer, moderna) until end of June - over 2 months delay.

He contacted also sputnik, but failed to contract it.

That's because he didn't want any new vax before locally made AZ to enter.

That's why vax rate is low and that's why covid is still rampant.

There were many more minor examples that his government doesn't care about people, but about envelopes and "face"

    https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/first-batch-us-donated-pfizer-vaccines-arrives-thailand-2021-07-30/

Where does it say 'When made a czar of covid just during the 3rd wave after Songkran 2021 he delayed contracting new vaxes (pfizer, moderna) until end of June - over 2 months delay.' or is that just your own 'theory'?

    Thanks

  12. I flew back home to get my jab and was allowed my first jab June 2021 and second jab September 2021. (Pfizer) UK

My daughter in Thailand got her 1st and 2nd jab within 6 weeks of eachother September and early November 2021 (Pfizer) Thailand

My wife got her first jab privately November 2021 (Moderna) Thailand

She then gave me her 2nd private jab in January for my 3rd booster whilst she went to Bang Sue for her 2nd jab free off the government. (Moderna) Thailand - I went with her, thousands of people getting Moderna or Astra shots.

Her mum got Astra twice September 2021 and then November 2021 and then Pfizer February 2022.

Seems like a strange contrast to many comments here. Hmmmmm

Very odd wording.  Sounds like it was still an accident, but one that was caused by negligence.

If it wasn't murder and she didn't fall accidentally, then someone else must have caused her to fall from the boat through their negligence.  This sounds quite tricky to prove.  If they were all drinking and she went to the end of the boat to relive herself, then someone swerved the boat and she fell out, they must have known that there was a risk to people falling out but ignored that risk.

Booze, darkness and childish behavior = this. Very sad.

People seem to have short memories.

Thailand kept the borders open to the Chinese where  COVID started when many other countries didn't and had the attitude of it won't affect us.

The country had a very slow vaccination rate.

The public had and still have in many ways a poor education on COVID with the believe in 'Hokus Pokus' that ' Pad Kapao, Smoking, Ginger' and many other nonsense prevents you catching it.

he country procured the vaccine very slowly and obviously when they did mostly the ineffective Chinese brand.

The country testing rate was and still is abysmal and is a testament to the handling of the situation.

The country had until recently draconian rules if you catch COVID.

So if the WHO are praising the country/Government they really should add dementia to the list of symptoms.

    1. Actually most countries kept their borders open to China and by that time, it didn't really matter as countries in Europe were just as infected. Looks like the UK made the same mistake. I don't think anyone really knew how serious it was going to be.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53654644

    2. Really...poor education? So why nearly 100% of the population would wear and still do wear masks? Thailand knows a thing or two about Viruses etc see HIV, Malaria, Dengue...plenty of experience

    3. Nobody could get all the vaccines they wanted, even India denied the UK the Astra's they promised them in return for being able to manufacture Astra in India. The privately ordered Pfizer jabs were delayed multiple times due to external issues and not Thailand's fault. The Chinese Vax's were all that was available at the time and quite rightly like any intelligent person they thought, better 50% protection of something than 100% of nothing. Obviously you with your medical degree knows better huh

    4. Please show me evidence that the testing rate was 'abysmal'.

    Thanks
