  1. So who is Dr Samire Asma and why should we believe the distinguished class of Dr's on ASEAN NOW with all their facts and figures displayed to substantiate all of their claims.

Dr Samira Asma is the Assistant Director-General for Data, Analytics and Delivery for Impact at the World Health Organization (WHO) where she leads WHO’s efforts to use timely, reliable and actionable data to drive progress towards the Triple Billion targets[1] and health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prior to joining WHO, Dr Asma served in leadership positions at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for over two decades where she established global programmes on tobacco control, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), environmental health and injuries through successful collaborations.

Dr Asma has contributed to more than 100 publications, books and policy papers on global health and public health surveillance and is internationally recognised as a scientific and policy expert on global tobacco control and NCDs.

International Labour Organization database, which I believe are the guidelines most countries go by when figuring out employment numbers.

I think my real point is that when compared to many many other countries, Thailand has always had a lower unemployment rate. Covid has definitely been a massive hit to jobs but thus far from looking at various data, it has sustained a low unemployment rate. 'Millions unemployed', as some suggest, is a total fabrication born of nothing other than some sort of innate desire for everything in Thailand to go belly up.

Thailand's labour force is around 40million. 1% unemployment is 400 000, 2% is 800 000 3% you do the maths, hardly millions is it.

I am showing you data; you guys are showing me hearsay and relative said this relative said that. Come on.

I highly doubt an international credit ratings agency like Moody's would accept and publish dodgy data, even if it did come from the Thai gov.

good luck trusting the numbers published by the gov't. Thailand has been recording covid-complicated deaths by the underlying condition (diabetes, emphysema etc), whereas most other countries record a covid-complicated death as covid death. this is according to my wife's niece who is a bangkok doctor and has vented her frustration at the process.

also, I think your unemployment numbers are equally untrustworthy, as I heard many times that the numbers are based on workers that pay into social security and don't take account of workers paid in cash or otherwise 'off the books'.

the TAT is most famous for manipulating the numbers apart from reality, but every department will do the same to make the status quo look good

It is published by Moody's analytics....look at the top corner of the screen. Jesus the people on this forum. Anyway, Thailand is renowned for always having had a very very low unemployment rate. Please show me graphs otherwise. Thailand has been covered by various media sources through the pandemic, praising how well they have done. Admittedly Q2 2021 onwards was tough but that is because Vax take up was slow due to delayed deliveries by sources OUTSIDE of Thailand.

Absolutely. No question that major changes are needed. What is your suggestion? Stick with the regressive and incapable status quo? I cannot remember the last time I spoke with a Thai, who approved of these fools.

Hmmmm again, you call them 'fools'. Seriously mate you do not have even the foggiest idea of what is going on this country or the larger ramifications of regime change would have to SE Asia and the world at large. I see you keep on having a go at Prayut but if you really actually knew anything about Thailand, which you do not, then you would know in reality the country is run by the privy council and Prayut is merely a figure head who, like many ex generals, politicians, businessmen and semi-royalty, will one day join the privy council. Lets just give you the benefit of the doubt and say you vaguely knew this, how dare you call these people fools, who are you? you are no one in Thailand compared to them my friend and you could not have ever been or will ever be part of a successful progression of a country to save your life. These men, and in some cases women, have successful transformed Thailand, avoiding such pitfalls as colonialism, communism, total authoritarianism and most recently the march of the dragon. They have transformed it into the most amazing country to travel, life in and for all of us to enjoy and love. Of course there are negatives but which country on this planet does not have any negatives. This is their country, they know what is best for the Thai people and they know the minds and ways of Thai people, NOT YOU!

I can remember the last time I spoke to a Thai, many Thai's in fact, and they all believe the best thing for Thailand is keeping the status quo because it has been so successful in avoiding said pitfalls in the past.

Seriously, encouraging the youth of this country to rise up against the status quo is like sending lambs to the slaughter and I very much doubt you will be there with them will you? Didn't think so.

Enough said to you, honestly I am probably wasting my time and I rarely come on this forum because it just seems to be full to the brim with people like you. I have just had enough of your ridiculous rhetoric. Read what I said and educate yourself, stop listening to idiots and reading junk mate, try and think outside of the box once in a while, try and understand the deeper fabric of Thai society. If you cannot or do not want to do this, then maybe you have alternative motives which require further investigation by the appropriate authorities.

Absolute rubbish. Those are official numbers. This administration has not exactly been famous for reporting the facts. There are millions unemployed right now. And countless who worked in the underground economy, who are not accounted for. Even in the smaller towns, I am seeing hundreds of closed shops. The new developments which these guys just keep building are nearly empty. Devoid of life. Have you been to any of the market areas lately? I was at one in Bangkok near Pratunam, and only 2% of the businesses have survived. It was a ghost town.

    Where have you been?

Firstly those stats are from Moody's, do not know if you have heard of them, pretty big international firm.

Secondly, that is a photo from an old mall where many floors and shops have been vacant ever since I had businesses in MBK (for over a decade).

Yeah I travel just a tad around Thailand, maybe check out my website. Lately I have been to, gosh so many places, From Bangkok to North and a few places in-between, Surin, Ubon, Koh Chang and I have seen none to the extent of what you suggest. Sure Thailand is not as busy as it has been but guess what Einstein, that is pretty similar around the world and has no bearing upon this government or any other government.

New developments that have just been built nearly empty you say...hmmmm my wife and I just bought a townhouse in Bangkok and guess what it completely sold out....go figure.

You are a total charlatan, stop spreading misinformation and lies. I have been watching you for many months now, constantly spewing out anti-government and anti-Thai rhetoric.

Thailand still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. The figures probably do not take into account the number of previous employees who started up eCommerce business during the pandemic.

Lets add some cumulative deaths per million for Thailand against some G20 countries just for good measure shall we 'Mike'

As this is a Thai forum, plus I don't own any property in Japan or call it home, I have nothing to comment on about Japan.

'As the title says. Stupidity, ignorance, lack of worldly understanding, blatant sabotage, organised disruption, strategic pilfering.'

So in any case you wouldn't accuse Japan of the same and you thoroughly believe that Thailand is being slow to open up because: 'Stupidity, ignorance, lack of worldly understanding, blatant sabotage, organised disruption, strategic pilfering.'

The fact that you so easily bypass the pretty common worldly stance of caution and instead engage in such strong alternative accusations, suggests to me you have some sort of innate rage for the current government and/or establishment. Probably a rage born out of rumors conjured by a criminal in Dubai to have this exact effect on the narrow minded and easily led. What you and most other foreigners (annoyingly) can't seem to possibly comprehend is this government is keeping Thailand safe now and for decades to come. For us all to enjoy, for ordered prosperity to continue and not for Thailand to slump to the depths of being run by some crooked ex cop. A guy who in the face of great uncertainly and anguish for the Thai people, chose to abuse the situation to further his own selfish revenge on an establishment who has grown and nurtured this country for centuries. Dare we even go into using young idealistic inexperienced minds to fight his battles whilst he sits atop his tower in the middle east.

Think a little outside the box and not what you read and hear would you/all, please.

I am sure rejection is very first reaction of simple minds.

For fundamentalist groups, sharia has only been a means to attain political goals. The primary goal is to thus employ sharia in order to achieve the state of their dreams.

The Muslim Brotherhood became active during the Hajj season and took it as an opportunity to convince Muslims of its project. Hassan al-Banna performed pilgrimage several times, went to Medina and met young people whom he managed to recruit for his project.

So you're blanketing every Thai Muslim going to Hajj with your nonsense and I am the one with an apparent, 'Small mind'. Jackass

Then they wouldn't have a life. All they do is pontificate about something they have no idea about and if you challenge them with rational fact based arguments they just laugh or cry emoji you. Quite sad the number of posts and time they spend on this forum per day. I suppose they are their own masters in the world of farang Thai political debate on aseannow; appearing knowledgeable to the unknowledgeable.

Quite pathetic really but each to his own I guess.

No definitely not; I mean they only staved off colonialism, cleverly avoided what could have been a nasty Japanese occupation, avoided communism, then went on to develop the most awesome country in SEA to live and visit. Yup, totally clueless are the privacy council and co.

Palang Pracharath MP for Nakhon Sawan province Nirote Sunthornlekha said yesterday (Thursday) that the prime minister admitted he was loaded with so much work that he occasionally makes mistakes, which have been pointed out by Danupha previously. According to Nirote, Gen. Prayut said he would reconsider his conduct.

Huh? First of all, when does he NOT make mistakes? His entire 8 years has been one mistake after another.

The biggest mistake he makes on a daily basis, is not resigning, and saving the nation further grief, backwards movement and economic destruction.

The man is utterly despised by all but his remaining 2%.

So you know and understand everything that goes on behind closed doors in this country do you?

Do you actually know a term called 'investigative journalism'. Why don't you go and see how much of the over 1 trillion $ borrowed for their spanking new high speed rail line has been paid back. Their military is also untested and nobody knows if these shiny toys actually work in a real battle situation.

I see it a little differently. If all entry is based on lets say 2 vax and 1 booster only, a lot of the Thais who can easily afford it will want to start travelling again and come back without risking time spent in any sort of quarantine, free or not. So, as well as your point, that would mean money going out, not coming in.

    Just sayin' it's a maybe.

Definitely a great point and I would totally concur with this assessment. I was thinking they do not want to loose all the extra revenue from the inflated single night hotels and PCR testes but then again surely they would make more having 5times that many additional tourists if there were little or no restrictions in places.

  15. Pretty <deleted> poor journalism. The reason why they do not want to open up is because then people will have more freedom to protest against the government. Also, If they completely open up and all hell breaks loose, who is going to get the blame? what will that then lead to? yup, more protesting and another fragile reason the three finger massive will have to accuse the government of being immoral or inhumane.
