Yeah and the President was trying to scold other countries for vaccine nationalism whilst the Saffas have actually had plenty of vaccines but no one taking them.

It filled out a Thailand pass application, it is still pending.

From this and a couple of other stories, It looks very much like they are convincing themselves that PCR test and go will be enough to halt any outbreak. Closing down again is just not an option.

Thais are flouting the rules by drinking, serving drinks, opening bars etc. This is NOT a divisive Thai/foreigner issue. It's the issue of people united against illogical laws promoted by an undemocratic government who are not financially supporting poverty-stricken people.
I can agree that Thais will also be flouting rules but this poverty stricken people is being hyped up by the opposition. I guarentee you most bars would have played with their taxes for years, everyone does in Thailand. The staff would have been paying very low taxes if any so they should have saved money for emergencied. There have been government handouts and generally thais will get by with family support. All this 'poverty-stricken' stuff is hyped up by the opposition. Seriously 55 it isnt clear enough for you.

They should maintain the current 'test and go' with PCR and delay opening bars until more is known about omicron and just how many foreigners are arriving with it. Bloody selfish of some bars and foreigners flouting the rules.

If anything they will change the 1 day for double jabbed to 7days and an additional PCR test. I cannot see Thailand closing borders or going back to 14day quarantine for all arrivals.
The early signs are that this strain does not seem to be anymore potent than Delta, but may spread more easily. I hope we are heading out of flu territory and into the common cold.

A monumental challenge and one that would take decades and cost, possibly, billions. What's next, central gas! besides I like them.

People are people no matter where in the world you live. If you are a friendly and nice person you won't have any problems being accepted by the community at large.
The government however, is a different matter. But, they may treat Thai people just as badly as farangs, if not worse in some situations.
Don't think a single bad experience with some a.hokes at immigration reflects the attitude of the general Thai population.
They do, it is not a farang/ racist thing. All Thai's feel the same about public sector staff.

Ministerial staff are renowned throughout Thailand as being idiots, a general opinion of Thai's and not my personal opinion. My partner has always and continues to work in the private sector and she just laughs at how unprofessional and lazy the public sector can be. She always said if she behaved the way they sometimes do, she would have been unemployed for going on a decade now.
Mind you I think this is the same in most countries and is not a personal trait of Thailand. You have to also understand that many who are working in ministries are there because they have connections. They are the government so in work and life in general, they feel like they are untouchable and sadly most of the time this is true. Private sector workers may make more money and have better benefits but public sector usually have more connections. There is also a tonne of ingrained gossip and boot licking in public office which probably adds to that weird environment.
Luckily in my local office, I have a nice lady who looks after my immi requirements and in general, everyone in the office is really nice and does their job properly. Sadly if you want good service you have to lick some boots, I tend to just flirt with them and they actually seem to love it.

None of these overpriced thai insurances cover forced HRC hotel quarantine right?
I can only speak for AXA who have confirmed to me that they would not cover the additional nights in a hotel but would cover the additional PCR tests. I really do not see or believe that the Thai insurance policies are overpriced. My AXA for 90days cost me about 200US$. Similar insurance policies I found locally were 250US$ up. Remember, you only need 50US$ cover. Obviously if you are looking for a more complex insurance with a higher coverage amount, this is another matter. For your basic covid coverage needed for the Thailand Pass, Thai insurers seem to be the cheapest.
NB. Remember you should be getting a policy which covers asymptomatic.

What is the cost of the PCR test?
Anywhere between 60US$ and 150US$. It depends on how quickly you want it. I would advice you to find a walk-in service and not a postal service as you may not get the results in time. With a walk-in service they have the sample straight away.

How does that protect you, when the person next to you on the flight or taxi ride to hotel tests positive, and you are whisked away for your overpriced, 2 week, unnecessary private hospital stay ?
That your insurance may, or may not cover the expense of.
As I posted before. AXA insurance will cover any medical bill incurred if you are sent to hospital quarantine due to proximity. They will also pay for the extra PCR tests you will have to take. They will not cover you for any additional stay in an AQ hotel though. Please see conformation I got from them the other day.
I have also had confirmation from them that you are covered for asymptomatic covid+

Good advice but not going to help much if the persons beside you have not been so dilligent and tests positive and your locked up for close contact monitoring
Try and upgrade to business at the airport. Right now airlines might accept as little as 300-500US$ for a one-way upgrade. If you do not want to spend the money, try and ask the airline to seat you as far away from others as possible. Get written assurances that you will be the only person in the transport provided by your hotel. I know my response is not possible for everyone but I am merely offering solutions to problems.

I had done my Non-Immi and had obviously been able and indeed do have Thais (Partner and daughter) supportive ID's. I had just finished doing my parents and was surprised that they asked for this as well. I think it is just one form for all types of Visa so I would just upload the copy of your own passport. Same for the proof of residency as well.
So passport, photo of you, photo of you with your passport, flights, hotel, passport pages last 12months and bank statement showing at least about 700$ per person for single entry and 7000$ per person for multiple entry or something like that.
I hope this helps.

I would advice anyone traveling to Thailand, to self-isolate for at least 7 full days before the date of your travel and only go for walks in the park and to get your test. The day before your flight and the day of your flight you could probably relax a bit because if you got covid on either of those days, it probably is not going to show up when you are tested in Thailand.
I would also advise you to take plenty of lateral flow tests so you can test yourself should they say you came back positive. If you had self-isolated for those 7 days, you would have quite a strong argument to claim that any positive was false and you want another PCR test done by another hospital.
Please remember you have rights and no one is going to the Bangkok Hilton for expressing your rights in a calm and dignified manner.
Chok dee ????
Disclaimer: I understand for most people this is not possible due to jobs and such (Unable to plan past your nose). I apologise for any hurt or inconvenience my outlandish and hurtful advice as done to you.

Sea level rise on the coast of NZ where I live is so insignificant that I have noticed zero change in my lifetime. Perhaps some are suggesting that sea level is higher in some parts of the planet ( other than tidal variation ) than others, LOL.
Isn't New Zealand rising because it is a Volcanic area or on the edge of a plate (I am not an expert), much like Hawaii. I think places like New Zealand and Hawaii will actually get bigger.
