About 700K baht/year, would be a fair bit less if I was not supporting a Thai family.
I play golf three times a week, live comfortably, eat mainly Thai food or cook for myself.
I am baffled how anyone could spend 2 million baht a year, unless they were either barfining every day, or getting drunk on Glenfiddich every day.

I thought the really emotional bit in Schindler was when the little girl in the red dress was running around, not the ending.
When Liam Neeson loses the plot realising he could have saved more people, how could that not be sad?
Apparently the girl in red was Spielberg's decision, the only color in the film apart from the Shabbat candles. She symbolises the death of innocence, and also may refer to the red flags used by the Jews in pleading for help from the Allies.

Ah yes... the swimming pool is closed. Not like I ever used it. But nice pool...
I hate it when they close the pool, because with the chlorine they are probably the safest place on the planet to be. Yes, I know, it's the partygoers that gather around them.

Here eleven years now, no problems with Thais to speak of.
Most of my problems have been with Caucasians.

Schindler's List has to be the tops. Field of Dreams, Starman. To Sir with Love?
Wake in Fright is not emotional, more acutely uncomfortable for many Australians.

More <deleted> from the spin doctors. If vaccines are coming, why can't I register at a private hospital? I dress neatly, use underarm deodorant and mouthwash.

Thank you. I visited Overbrook and Sriribun private hospitals in Chiang Rai to enquire about registration, both said the government hospital is the only place I can register.
Yeah right. I'm going to walk into a hospital that has 200 COVID patients as of a couple of days ago, and sit waiting my turn with 100 people. Wouldn't it be simpler if I just jumped into a petri dish?

The only testing I am seeing is temperature testing, which has its limits. When the gate guard at a golf club faithfully records my forehead temperature as 32.1 degrees C, she should be calling an ambulance to rush me to hospital, where I can be treated for hypothermia.
My GF's village south of Chiang Rai is in lockdown, along with a dozen others on the route to Phan. I get the same temperature check, I don't see any PCR or COVID antibody testing kits there. The guards at the checkpoint are just villagers, no training in how to use them anyway.
It depends on who you listen to, a few days ago the Thai government was posting 53 COVID patients at the government hospital in Chiang Rai. An elderly local Thai guy told me there were over 200, who do I believe?
Unless you have creditable links to the number of PCR/antibody tests being made, you are assuming too.

OK, that was my point. Your post made a comment on first time players performing badly. Very few people do well the first time they learn new motor skills and have not developed the engrams.
I agree that you (and I ) would not look good in short skirts. However, you may not be aware that there are male baton artists, and there are martial art skills that are very similar.
You lost me on golf being metaphor for life. I'm guessing that an enthusiast for any sport, or other endeavor for that matter, would make the same claim. My only experience with golf is being hit by a golf ball when walking on a sidewalk next to a gold course. After that I stayed away from them.
Golf is a metaphor for life because it teaches patience in adversity, and adaptability in changing conditions. It involves handling pressure, and conquering fears. Losing one's temper in golf is usually fruitless.
Sports like tennis may have similar challenges, except it's an opponent and the ball is moving.
In golf, there's only a small ball sitting in whatever lie you have put it in.
Golf is also a test of character, as all its rules are based on the premise of personal honesty. Trump cheats at golf, so it's not hard to guess how he will behave in real life.
I've been hit by a golf ball too, I agree it's not a pleasant experience.

I use Codiphen occasionally when I want a good night's sleep. I get very vivid and detailed dreams when I do.
My main concern is waking up from sleep to a painful leg cramp, although regular massage keeps those at bay.

A friend told me some of the bar girls in Pattaya have a supply, for certain exhibitions.

The Ancient Greeks said hubris is always followed by nemesis. Too bad the military government never got a classical education.
The hubris in allowing people to travel during Songkhran, instead of banning inter-provincial travel as in 2020, is what is causing the current spike.

If you are under the illusion that you as a foreigner are somehow accepted as part of their culture, then you are simply fooling yourself. Thais can be polite, but don't think that means you are accepted as part of their community or part of their culture. You are not. I even spent a full Rain Retreat as a Buddhist monk is a region where I was the only foreigner, and trust me, even there the "respect" was at best paper thin. Not all Thais, but quite a significant number were...unaccepting, and that nonacceptance had everything to do with me being kon chart dang - an outsider from a different country - i.e., Not A Thai.
I've found most Thais are polite to me, perhaps that's because I am polite to them. I've learned enough Thai to get by with daily conversation and needs.
I really don't care if Thais accept me or don't accept me, I have my own daily life routines. I do wonder about non-Thais who want to become part of a society where face is all-important, and believes implicitly in ghosts.
I am a stranger in a strange land, I don't worry about it.

The mainstream media are doing a great job "injecting" fear into all the sheeple. Why would anyone get injected by an untested fluid (research the ingredients) for a virus 99.95% curable in the under 80 year olds. You have an immune system people. Always ask questions, trust nobody. ????
30% of COVID - infected people in Australia are experiencing lung damage that takes months of rehabilitation.
I don't trust your information 99.95% is curable. Immune systems only work against threats they have experienced before, ergo vaccines.
I'm asking you a question. Where is a link to an authoritative source that supports the figure you have posted?

As I said subsequently, this is not my call, I'm merely describing the role of the Embassies as they are performed currently and have been so for at least two decades or more. The problem is, so few people understand the role and expect so much more.
If taxpayers knew the level of waste that goes on in Foreign Affairs ( or whatever it is called now ) they'd be screaming bloody murder. Cushiest government employment there is.
Is it too much to ask, in the middle of a pandemic, for embassies to get off their butts and assist their citizens?

How many people excel at a sport (using the term loosely for golf) the first time they try it?
Did you ever try baton twirling?
Why not? Not interested and think it silly? You owe it to yourself to try; you could be a natural but odds are you would look abjectly incompetent.
Personally I've never attempted either 'sport'.
Why would I try baton twirling? I thought that was done by girls with nice legs and very short skirts, the sight of me attempting that would frighten small children and grown adults alike.
Particularly if I wore the uniform.
I certainly did not excel when I started golf, took me 18 months to get to single figures. Slow learner. Never thought of it as silly at any stage.
People who think golf is silly don't understand the combination of athleticism, skill and mental application required to become a champion. They also don't understand golf is the only form of exercise recommended by doctors for cardiac patients, or that it is a sport that can be played by all ages. The number of 70 yo golfers would be far greater than tennis or badminton players.
Golf is a metaphor for life, that's why it's the best game ever invented.

It's not their job to look after the health of their citizens overseas, they're not missionaries.
Perhaps you could explain what Australians are supposed to do, when they are unable to travel back there due to quarantine quotas, and in fact face jail terms if they try to do it from India.
I've seen the taxpayer-funded holiday accommodation of the Australian ambassador outside Jakarta, not a mansion, a bloody palace. The functions of diplomatic staff seems to be holding parties for other consulates and embassies. And begrudgingly dole out visas.
I'm registering for vaccination at a local private hospital. Not expecting assistance from the consulate, IME they're as useful as tits on a bull.

The Western media is going on the facts it can get hold of, such as the 50% efficacy of Sinovac. R&C disinformation includes the story of 11 or 20 nuns dying after being vaccinated for COVID using AZ, Pfizer..... insert whatever is wanted.
Many people in the West don't realize Facebook and Twitter have been weaponized by totalitarian states. That's not to say Fox News has not done its own share of weaponizing.

The US is having issues getting sufficient people to take the vaccine… issues that seem to be about more than politics (for once), and other countries are reporting similar results. Wife just had second jab today at a place set up for 2,000 people per day that can only get 500 to come in.
The Russians and Chinese are mounting huge disinformation campaigns to cast doubt on the safety and efficacy of Western vaccines, it's just another salvo in the "grey war" being conducted in cyberspace.
It's unfortunate there is no vaccine or therapy for ignorance, and also unfortunate COVID is not selective for it.

IMO they would be questioning our sanity on other grounds, long before they got to golf. They'd probably start with churches, mosques and synagogues.

With the speed of its vaccination rollout, America is rapidly morphing from a pariah nation to one that will be open for unrestricted business, trade and tourism in a very short time.
Thailand take note. You won't be open for tourism until you do the same.
