  1. The new slang in the UK and Europe right now, is to "Thai" someone--meaning to cheat or lie to someone; usually the phrase is expressed by the victim, as in, "Don't Thai ME, you scumbag!"

Apparently, the Pattaya and Patong predators on tourists are making headway in creating a major international image of Thailand.

    Well, I haven't heard it yet, ' change.......rolleyes.gif.pagespeed.ce.hZ59UWKk-s.gif

  2. My friend jokingly says , " You can get the monkeys out of the jungle , but you can't get the jungle out of the monkeys ".

    Who are the monkeys?

the monkeys used to be a pop group in the late 60s,,

I believe Toscano was implying that Thais were monkeys in the jungle and he is a racist bigot. He wrote, "You can get the monkeys out of the jungle , but you can't get the jungle out of the monkeys." I don't think that by any stretch of the imagination means a rock group.

No, that was not what Toscano was implying, it usually takes the the refrain of, 'you can take the girl out of the bar, but you can't take the bar out of the girl'. change the people, people, just change the people you mix with.

  3. My friend jokingly says , " You can get the monkeys out of the jungle , but you can't get the jungle out of the monkeys ".

Your friend is an extremely witty wordsmith and should be applauded for his humor.

Yes, originality is certainly not a strong point, but my point of 'if you can't change the people, then change the people', certainly springs to mind.

  4. My Vietnamese friends think (know?) the Thais are obsessed with money - especially the women

When I was a young man, and I carried my pack, and I lived the free life of a rover, (there's a songs lyrics there somewhere I must write it down) I spent a lot of time in the pub and low and behold there was a lot of drunk people around me. When I stopped using pubs, there wasn't so many drunk people around me, funny that.

If you can't change the people, change the people!

  5. I do know where I live. I live in Chonburi Province and Nawanghin sub district. I knew it was Eastern Thailand considering I posted on the Eastern local forum.

I worked for some time in Bowin and Laem Chabang and live here. I drove every day to work (about 1hr). Unfortunately now sent to sunny Angola month on month off.

I really did not ask for a geography lesson. That wasnt my post. My post may have been wrong. Appologies. Its just from my own experience.

Thanks for the positive posts. The negatives I couldnt care less. Ive got a big Leo and some fine food.

Sent from my GT-I9300T using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Why was your post wrong? There are no wrong questions only stupid answers, there are more responses about opticians, glasses and Ubon than informative ones about the east.

  6. In the UK any male age 46 with no family or children, that wasn't openly gay, and had a history of living in Thailand would already have been registered and monitored.

    Proof ... rolleyes.gif

cheesy.gifcheesy.gif Come on David, this is the general Forum, maybe when there is a blue moon over Douglas and the river runs up Spancil Hill

  7. Some guys come here with relative wealth and marry poor country girls. The they have the preposterous notion that all her family should suddenly adopt the culture of the guy's home country culture. Sorry, but a new Toyota Hilux and brick house isn't enough to transform these hillbillies.

These peasants want kids as security in their life.

Sadly, these conditions attract all kids of sexual and social misfits from richer countries. The binman from Brisbane and the taxi driver from Texas suddenly have the resources to live their fantasies in Pattaya, then Nakhon Nowhere.

  8. I am not sure JT, perhaps people gravitate to their own sense of stupidness, but without realising that business and morality and plain common sense should prevail. I went out and washed the elderly man's hands in front of the western bullies, just glad I didn't take a hiding for it, still glad I did it though.

  9. Two observations of last year:

Silom Rd-Suriwong Road- maybe about 6pm- long train of vehicles all having great fun, start shooting at me, I hold up my suit and they still continue to shoot, quite miraculously none of them hit wink.png

Pattaya- Beach Rd a day later ( from memory- can be disputed ) a Westerner fellow with a bazooka blasts an elderly Thai guy, the Thai guy questions the actions, the Westerner guy squares up, as the Thai guy walks away, the Westerner guy blasts him again.

Welcome to a festival you do not understand.

  10. Are there areas cordoned off for swimming on Jomtien Beach?

If you see people acting supposedly recklessly, are you drawn toward them, or do find somewhere else?

It is always someone else's fault, take responsibility for your child, in time because you are of limited intelligence, they will take care of you.

  11. Yet another Thai bashing thread.

As if the same doesn't happen in holiday resorts around the world.

OP is this your first beach holiday?

    Chill pill.

As it happens in Thailand the poster is stating a fact on a public Forum , Not Thai bashing as you say.

Again, may I challenge, who are the idiots, the boaters or the swimmers?

  12. I don't think it can be classed as a Thai bashing thread yet, maybe an attempt to create one, but give it time, I am sure you will be proven right.

Hopefully it will be defended, then just wait for the 'Thai Apologists', shout to ring out like a bunch of demented slip fielders in the hope of a nick from a beleaguered batsman. laugh.png

  13. Although the Catholic church may state 14, it is still bound by the rule of law of whichever country, which in the UK and Ireland is 16.

The Catholic Church cannot change its written tenets which are ancient, unlike for instance UK law which has changed over millennia, from 10 up to a couple of hundred years ago 13 it is now 16.

I believe the Catholic Church is a reflection of it's members views for example abortion may be legal but not for a Catholic. My point was about the marriage age as proscribed by the church. My personal view is the marriage age should be 72 for men but I do accept I'm in a minority.

You believe the Catholic Church is a reflection of its members? It is a Faith and its tenets are ancient, fortunately not all members still follow its rules line by line. Abortion is a very personal thing and can be very emotive, I refuse to go into because of that.

The use of contraception is also not allowed, but I can assure you, it is neither followed by the girls or the boys.

  15. Who are you calling stupid? The Boaters or the tourists who let their children swim in the water knowing there are boats coming in to pick up the same tourists who are letting their children play in the water where the boats are coming in to pick up more tourists.

    Same same, but different

  16. I believe less than 20% of Thais finish high school.

95% of Thais are "dirt poor", that is how the Thai rulers like it.

Should we really be trying to force the failures in our society onto other societies?

No we shouldn't, but I would like to see a link for your other statements

    OK ... I know what you mean ... facepalm.gif

We live outside the typical 'tourist' areas of Bangkok ... but the BTS is creeping out our way and yes, a definite increase ... but only where the Westerner feels comfortable.

... so, in the TESCO - YES ... in the local markets - NO

Sundance & Butch by the look of it

  18. Sorry mate, but I think your use of 'unholy' is totally inappropriate. Unless of course it's a subtle attempt on your part to turn this thread into a certain-religion bashing thread. And I don't mean the IRA version of Catholicism that you are obviously referring to when you relate to your experiences at Harrods.

What an extraordinary comment, an 'IRA version of Catholicism'. the rest of this post deleted as you wouldn't understand it.
