Leaving aside what I think of the Thai government's actions, there might be a chance that AstraZeneca can fill the gap from production sites elsewhere, due to a number of Western countries discontinuing the use of this vaccine.
Agreed - the first lot shipped from Italy I think.
UK switching to Pfizer for 18-40 age group. So maybe AZ can be released by Boris if he wants to leverage overseas trade deals like the Chinese are said to be doing.

It may come as a surprise but the vaccine will do little to reduce the "thousands of it own people are dying like flies", primarily RTA.
RTAs followed by the Flu & RSV infections that cause bronchiolitis.
-
Need more vaccine type options - should have mRNA on hand already.
Start to construct more production plants in Thailand (using fully vaccinated Thai labour IMHO) or partner with South Korea to produce for ASEAN.
-
Variant D is the game changer.
Variants will dictate the form of vaccination policies globally.

Looks like they will be importing the vaccine themselves, possibly coming in by a French Attaché with a courier crate. I would think that in order to ensure it is done as greed upon they would then need to send a representative to each of the hospitals partnered up with and with the vaccine in hand on the day of the vaccination jab to ensure the French Nationals get the J&J and not sinovac....just my view

I feel an email to Boris (BJ to his pals at Eton) is coming on copied to the Sun Newspaper and Aberdeen's Press & Journal.

I don't have a Thai ID card although I have lived and worked here for 20 years.
I tried at my local govt. drop-in clinic but was told my ID ( UK Passport ) does not have enough digits i.e. 13 ( as on the Govt form ) so they were unable to register me.
I have yet to try the online Govt form.New Gov form for foreigners should be okay.............................what happens with the data to assign appointment dates is not so clear.

I have a gut feeling Thai officialdom does not trust passport numbers alone so if you have an official Thai ID such as a Thai driving licence on which your passport number is detailed it means Thai Gov has already acknowledged & recognised your passport ID and address in Thailand.
I say this because when I registered as high risk for covid vaccination with a hospital in Chiang Mai I was asked if I had a Thai driving licence which was provided along with my UK passport. (Wait duration for 1st jab was quoted as 6 weeks - due 8th July).

3'400 THB for 2 shots, plus 2 x health provider fee, 2 x nurse fee, 2 x hospital fee, 2 x certificate fee, 1 x travel pass fee, 1 x vaccination pass fee, 2 x administration fee.... great deal. pay now 3'400 and later another 3'400.
"PHA chief Dr Chalerm Hanphanich said that the price of 1,700 baht for each of two jabs will include the vaccine, service fee and insurance. "
I read that as 3400 for two jabs all in.

500,000 would not last 2 days.

At least they do stop, unlike here. And don't forget the Chinese are used to stopping on the right to look at their phones.
I thought that Chinese motorcar drivers were banned in border provinces - maybe that was in Laos though.

The extension costs 1,900 baht and is valid for 60 days from the day a person's current permit to stay ends or from the date of application.
"from the date of application" must mean if existing end date of stay has been exceeded.

Mass tourism will not be coming back to Thailand this year................China will not take the risk.
Phuket will be a test case of sorts - just like allowing Songkran holidays was a try & see what happens scenario (however many did not travel like in other years).

Better get a move on then. That’s about 750,000 jabs a day starting 1st June.
Absolutely no chance.
UK is only averaging around 500,000 a day and that’s with a lot of practice and organisation.
Agreed.
I don't think the Thai Gov leaders look at what other countries are doing in detail - certainly the UK & US leaders appear not to have in the early days.

You will have to search that for yourself, but - trust me - it is being given to the 60+ group.
There ya go, easy to Google:-
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2112127/sinovac-gets-nod-for-over-60s
Thanks for the link.
Copied txt from the post "The approval came despite the World Health Organization reporting on Wednesday that an independent assessment came away with only a "low level of confidence" in the quality of evidence that the risk of serious adverse effects was low for adults above 60. The same study did, however, back Sinovac claims that two doses of the vaccine are effective in safely preventing transmission in other age groups."

I've played Bear Creek in Dallas-Fort Worth. Nice course, but it was a bit unsettling having a plane roar overhead about every 2 minutes. Had me wondering what would happen if a golf ball got sucked into a jet engine.
Did you read about a Chinese passenger in main land China tossing a coin for good luck into the jet engine on her way to the stairs to board? She was arrested and the plane was delayed for hours.

Opinion: A royal intervention in the healthcare arena is a rebuke against Prayuth
The announcement in the Royal Gazette that the Chulabhorn Royal Academy can ignore and bypass the Prayuth government’s policy to centralize the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccines is not only an embarrassment to the government, but also tantamount to a pseudo power-grab, at least within the healthcare realm.
Specifically, the decree grants autonomous power to the Institute in negotiating and importing Covid-19 vaccines with the manufacturers both in Thailand and abroad. This was a right that was reserved for only the Thai government.
The announcement also said all medical equipment, drugs and vaccines imported by the academy would be considered its property for the purpose of medicine and public health and will not be liable to any kind of legal execution.

Chulabhorn Royal Academy given sweeping healthcare powers in late night announcement
Hopefully someone in Thailand is considering opening a second vaccine production facility to serve the nation & the ASEAN region as new viruses are bound to follow.
