Loads of people have 2 passports, why not.
Yes it is convenience. Are you upset because you cant have 2?

My situation:
EU (German) passport.
I reside in South Korea, haven't been to Germany since I was a kid.
My (German) father lives in Patong, Phuket on a retirement visa.
I usually visit him for a few weeks every 3 months or so, coming in on a 30-day exemption stamp.
I arrived in Phuket on 27 Feb and received a stamp valid till 27 March.
After the situation in Korea got worse and worse, and several flights I booked got cancelled, I went to Phuket Town immi on 23 March and received an extension until 26 April. I do not know if this extension was a "Covid" extension or just a normally processed one. They did not ask me for a letter from the German embassy/consulate, which suited me just fine because the German embassy/consulate as well as most EU member states have decided not to issue them. Attached are pics of my 30 day exemption and extension.
I am in Patong, which is strictly locked down. So I am unable to leave to even go to the airport, which will shut down anyway on 10 April (tomorrow) till 30 April. I had a flight to DMK booked today and an onwards flight back to Korea tomorrow so that plan has now faltered.
My next confirmed booking is 1 May HKT-DMK, then a flight to Korea on 3 May.
My questions:
1. As I am "legal" for now until Apr 26th thanks to the extension, will I be covered under this "amnesty" until the 30th, and - still be included if the govt decides to extend the amnesty into May?
2. If the amnesty ends on 26 Apr and I try to get on a plane on 1 May/3 May, will I be fined and/or get one of those dreaded "overstayed" stamps? I absolutely do not care about the money but since visit my dad here quite often and also own a condo, I do not want to risk any situation that might look bad on my record, Covid or not.
Sorry for the long winded post, but I think it's better to be specific in order to get a knowledgeable/quality relpy~^^
Thanks guys,
Worried in Patong
You are fine until the 30th.
Id wait to see nearer to the end of april what is going to happen. They probably will extend the amnesity again until the end of may.

When I renewed my UK passport via agent last year, I asked them to send the old one to be returned to me and they did so. When the new passport was available at Trendy, I then had to send the old one back to the agent so that they could collect the new one.
Yeah, a bit of a ball ache if you need the old passport for something, having to send it back and forth. Suppose its better than travelling to bangkok though.

Probably those sent away and told yesterday to return tomorrow. I expect people will still be going to IOs. Officers need to be going down the lines, looking at passports and sending home those who needed extensions after March 26th.
And giving out letters stating the new amnesty. Saying that though, how many of these tourists cant read thai or even english.
Think it needs to be translated into multiple different languages and stuck to the walls outside immigration.

And add a little dent to there wealth.
No big impact for them really.
Feel sorry for all the people who were struggling before this even happened.
Must be in desperation mode now.

In fact it applies to your case too (ALL VISA TYPES INCLUDING NON IMM EXTENSIONS) as was said all along ????
If you not happy with a free automatic extension feel free to visit immi & extend manually as you wish (provided offices are still kept open) or wait as proposed to extend again after emergency degree ended!Immigration offices will remain open.

My reading of it, is that people on Annual Extensions (work/marriage/retirement) still need to process their new extension at Immigration. However, if it expires during the "amnesty" period, they will not be fined for overstaying if they go when the "amnesty" is over. Obviously their new Extension will be backdated, so they won't get any extra months.
Of course, once the "amnesty" is over, Immigration will be a nightmare again, so it would make sense to go now, as all the tourists, 90 day reporters etc will not be there!
Hundreds of people still showed up at immigration this morning 5.30am. Alot of people dont know about this amnesty. Id give it a few days.

As long as she didn't give up her citizenship then you are fully entitled. You need her birth and death certificate. Address of where she lived. Contact the Irish embassy. I got mine last year. Took about 3 months.
Will have to check, cheers.

Even if the extension ends after March 26th? I see the unclear word 'Visa' is utilized and I inerpret it to mean Permission of Stay, and there is no clarification wrt what that Permission is based on, a Tourist Waiver, a Tourist Visa, a Non-Imm-O Entry, or any prior Extension?
Usually best to wait for clarification on these announcements, the devil in the details, the details not supplied!
It does say all visa's.

with automatic renewal if extended beyond 30th April and if not extended then those trapped here because of travel restrictions will be expected to go home
I would fully expect the auto extension to continue to the 30th May and possibly beyond then people will also need time to arrange flights home etc - all those stranded here are not going to be able to fly on the same day or even the same week
Yep, no way is this going to end by the 30th of april.

why are you sending it back to the UK.
I am mistaken, the agent i use keeps hold of the passport and sends it all back to me when the new passport arrives.
Think i need a beer.????

Funny the office in Soi 5 Pattaya were still issuing fines for overstay yesterday. My wife was one of many having to pay for overstay.
Getting every last baht they can before this amnesty was signed. Robbing b*****

My brother did it a few years ago. If you have the documents it's not hard. Getting the documents may not be easy. The Irish Consulate is apparently willing to take into consideration various intricacies of Irish family life. For example, my mother's birth certificate has her name as Mary, but her family never called her Mary, but right from birth called her Eileen instead. She naturalized as a US citizen with the name Eileen and that's the mother's name on my brother's own birth certificate. So, Mary was born in Ireland, but Eileen gave birth to the American applicant for Irish citizenship. It would seem to me to be an imperfect record of the transmission of citizenship, but the Consulate accepted it.
My grandmother passed away a few years ago, so id have to see if my grandad has all the documents still. He is 90 years old, so his memory isnt great.
Plus with this covid crisis i will have to wait any way.
At least they seem a bit lenient with what you have said.

Straight forward enough, always worth the effort a 2nd passport..
Thats what im thinking, my uk passport gets full within a year with all my non o visas and extensions. Hate sending it off back to the uk and having to wait for its return. Especially if something like this happened while it was in the uk.
