  1. A rigged meter is at driver control and not normally used and very few vehicles will even have such a system - only if they suspect the passenger is not aware of correct price would they even trying using it. Driver can easily return meter to normal operation - normally by a hidden switch but I have also seen a program function of meter itself being used in one case. I have used taxi several times a week for the last 20 years and have not had such usage more than a handful of times although accept that such activity may be a bit higher in tourist areas where passenger is not expected to know better. A good indication is occasional quick increase close together for simple shock absorber microswitch system. But even in worst case this has only added about 20% to final bill so not worth fighting over considering the very low taxi fares and that tips are not normally expected.

A meter can be rigged to start higher, shorter distance and more for time. While meter is on it cannot be changed without turning it off and reseting it.
  2. I always try to get a cab on the departure level nowadays.

Too many nasty experiences with those on the arrival level. Too many rigged Meters, too many crooks...... I must have been riding Taxis in BKK more than a Thousand times in my 8 years here, and they only bad experiences I made were ENTIRELY when taking a Cab from the "official" booth at the arrival level...... There must be an organization who offers ALL registered Airport-Cabs to manipulate their Meters. My last bad experience with a ridiculously rigged Merter was just 2 months ago and ended in a VERY unpleasant ride and a not-so-nice argueing and discussing through the entire journey (Luckily my Thai is quite okay so I can give a "CONTRA" and thats what I did, so the driver miraculously managed to "slow down" the meter to regular level again after he found out I won't fall for his scam / pay triple the regular rate

If you knew anything about meters you wouldn't post such rubbish. Can't slow down a rigged meter.
  3. I would recommend HD Bangkok, my friend bought a new Fat Bob off them last year and he is very happy with the service provided. The bike is in CM but they regularly travel up here with factory trained technicians to do the warranty work and servicing. As a bonus they have a pretty good sale on presently with discounted 2012 models.

Hey justcruisin, what does your mate think to the fat bob? And do you have more info on the sale prices of 2012 models? Cheers

Sent from my GT-P1000T using Thaivisa Connect App

Just go to website for the deals.
  4. I bought my bike used from a guy in Korat. I'm still running on Korat plates here in Pattaya, but I've changed the green book in to my name and transfered the bikes "home" province to Chonburi.

I have been stopped by the police but its never been a problem, I just show them copies of the documents transfereing the bike to me and I'm on my way. The cops are fully aware of the problem, so you should be fine smile.png

    Chok dee krab!

Just did the HOG transfer from another province to Phitsanulok and was told 2 weeks for new plates with special No.

You have been told a lie or a porky hog!

No plates until next year. Just got plates for a bike that I bought in Surat Thanee. Only took 9 months.

Bought in Surat changed to CM. Custom Plates or any number it was the same

Anyway What Harley are we talking about? It matters only how much you want to pay for custom plates maybe you will have them in 2 weeks.

  5. Please don't resort to violence against these dogs - and certainly don't consider "killing" them (and I say this for YOUR sake also !).

Try, instead, filling some large used Coke bottles (clear-plastic) with clear water and hang these at 1 m spacing's on the street-side of your front gate/fence. Make sure they're at about 'eye-level' for your average dog and see what happens . . . . .

Dogs perceive these things as "evil-eyes"- and will stay away from your front.

This works well. Can even sit the bottles on the ground.

  8. One of the problems with trasferring money to Thailand is that each branch does not have it's own Swift code, so all funds are sent to the head office who then manually transfer the funds to the district office who then in turn tranfer it to the branch that the acount is held at. Totally retarded and innefecent and the reason why transfers take 5 to 7 days.

Wrong, the main branch put it in your acct. all computerized. Transfers less than 24hrs.
  9. There are a few farangs in MS mostly working for the NGO's. For cheap hotel/gh go to farang rest. valled Bai Fern. Beside them is a small hotel around 350bht. Good food at rest. as well. Lots of other hotels on outskirts but too far to walk around town.
