Last Chance, Get out to Vote: Fascism vs Freedom
LosLobo replied to Yagoda's topic in Political Soapbox
Ah, the classic Princess Bride line—nicely done, indeed! And you’re absolutely right. "Eschew" does require a direct object; it’s all about avoiding or steering clear of something specific, and in this case, it’s as nonsensical as most of his posts. So yes, it’s wise to eschew tossing around big words without knowing their meaning. In this case, maybe they should eschew trying to sound intellectual—which, as we both know, is beyond their ken. -
Not quite, Frank. For a president, tax returns aren’t exactly 'normally confidential'—transparency’s expected. The returns revealed potential fraud—plain and simple. Any business inflating assets for loans would face consequences. This isn’t a ‘gotcha’—it’s called the law, and even your messiah isn’t above it.
-
After the returns were taken, Frank, they fueled multiple investigations. Here’s a snapshot: NY Criminal Case: Examining the Trump Organization’s financial practices for possible fraud. NY Civil Suit: AG Letitia James is suing over inflated asset values for loans and insurance. IRS Audits: Questions arose about why his audits didn’t catch these discrepancies. January 6 Committee: Financial disclosures fed into inquiries about funding sources and conflicts. In short, the returns helped prove your messiah a crook. Accountability has a way of catching up.
-
What became of it, Frank? What do you think? Maybe not; I’ve already seen your thoughts here. Nevertheless, in closing, I hope you get through tomorrow okay; this may be of some comfort: FOUR STAGES OF LOSS Denial: Refusing to accept the reality of the loss. Anger: Feeling frustration and helplessness, often directed toward others or oneself. Bargaining: Trying to negotiate or make deals to reverse the loss or lessen the pain. Acceptance: Coming to terms with the reality of the loss and finding a way to move forward.

Maybe ask Frank.

Frank, I’d suggest you post a link, but I know that’s beyond your ken. And I’d recommend Google as a friend, but I know you don’t have any. So, as your “friend for day one,” here’s one for you: Trump didn’t 'give' his tax returns. The Supreme Court ordered the IRS to hand them over. Endurance (2024) is a remarkably well-produced documentary that most, especially seafarers and history buffs should enjoy. It's the story of Ernest Shackleton’s doomed 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica. The original 1919 silent footage has been remastered, with voices brought to life by AI. The documentary also covers the 2022 quest to locate Shackleton's lost ship, the Endurance. An interesting detail: the expedition first reached South Georgia Island, the gateway to Antarctica, exactly 110 years ago today.

I suggest what you think you know and what are actual facts may be mutually exclusive. But feel free to post your evidence.

I have no friends. Do you have a link ?

I thought Frank lived in China, another bastion of free speech—maybe he's just on loan from the FSB.

Maybe you know more about geography than the very stable genius: Nambia – Trump referred to "Nambia" instead of Namibia during a speech. Balkans vs. Baltics – Confused the Baltic countries with the Balkans while speaking to their leaders. Colorado Border Wall – Claimed he was building a border wall in Colorado, which doesn’t share a border with Mexico. Hungary and Russia – Incorrectly stated that Hungary shares a border with Russia. India and China – Claimed India does not share a border with China, which is obviously false. Belgium as a City – Referred to Belgium as if it were just a city. Kansas City Chiefs – Congratulated the Kansas City Chiefs for their Super Bowl win while associating them with Kansas instead of Missouri. Thighland – Called Thailand "Thighland" during a speech. Syria-Iraq Confusion – Claimed a military strike happened in Iraq when it was actually in Syria. Nepal and Bhutan – Mispronounced Nepal as "Nipple" and Bhutan as "Button." Sioux City – Thanked Sioux Falls while in Sioux City, Iowa. Spain Confusion – Mistakenly referred to Spain as if it were a city in the UK. Greece and Turkey – Claimed Greece and Turkey were not neighbors, which is incorrect. Puerto Rico – Suggested that Puerto Rico was part of the mainland U.S. No wonder he is the laughing stock of most world leaders, including Putin, Xi, and Kim Jong Un.

Surely, if you have a modicum of logic, you'd recognize ad hominem at its finest! Would you like me to explain what that means, or are you already familiar with the concept of attacking the person instead of addressing the argument?

I’m glad the leftists have taught you a few things. Education, along with critical thinking, logic, and reasoning, really are marvelous discussion tools.

When I first saw Trump in that garbage truck, I figured city sanitation finally drew the line. After clogging the sewers with his soiled diapers for years, they made him haul the mess away himself.

For those who forgot Trump's broken promises during his presidency: Coronavirus would “go away without a vaccine.” He won’t have time to play golf if elected. Repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Cut taxes for the middle class and make the rich pay more. Corporations would invest tax cuts in American workers. Boost economic growth by 4% annually. No cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. Be “the voice” of American workers. $4,000 pay raise for average American families. Anyone who wants a COVID test can get one. Hydroxychloroquine protects against coronavirus. Eliminate the federal deficit. Hire “only the best people.” Lower prescription drug prices. Revive the coal industry. Help American workers during the pandemic. Drain the swamp. Protect Americans with pre-existing conditions. Mexico will pay for the border wall. Bring peace to the Middle East. Lock up Hillary Clinton. Use business experience to reform government. End DACA. Six weeks of paid maternity leave. End Kim Jong Un’s nuclear program. Distance from personal businesses. Keep jobs in America. End the opioid crisis. Release his tax returns. Renegotiate the Iran nuclear deal. Enact term limits for Congress. China would pay tariffs. Cut the cost of college tuition. Protect American steel jobs. Tax cuts would spur growth and pay for themselves. Negotiate a new environmental deal. Sue women accusing him of sexual misconduct. Bring all troops back from Afghanistan. Put America first in foreign policy. Be the voice of the common people. Trump’s 40 Biggest Broken Promises - The American Prospect

A stolen 2020 Election!
-
Pick an appropriate response from the Trump supporters' playbook: I didn’t see it. He didn’t mean it. You’ve taken it out of context. You obviously hate him. You are a lying SOB. By the way, did Biden steal the 2020 election from Trump? And will Trump concede if he loses next week?

No source as usual

I agree. A jury of Trump’s peers found him liable for sexual assault, making him a certified sex offender. With over 20 women, his ex-wife, and even a teen accusing him of sexual assault—many of these claims being legal cases—it’s a bit baffling to dismiss the pattern. You must be living in a vacuum.

Ah, the classic “who controls” distraction—always a go-to when facts become inconvenient. Questioning Authority: Skepticism is healthy, but let’s not confuse it with blanket distrust. Science is a process, not a puppet show, and peer-reviewed studies exist independently of “media control.” Misrepresentation of Safety: Dismissing Covid vaccines as unsafe ignores mountains of data from global health organizations. Just because you believe something doesn’t make others “deluded”—they might just be informed by evidence you choose to overlook. Challenging Consensus: The zoonotic origin theory is still under investigation. Just because lab-leak theories are getting air time doesn’t invalidate initial findings. And sure, the view on saturated fats has evolved, but that’s science adapting, not a conspiracy. Looking Past Legacy Media: Seeking information outside the mainstream isn’t inherently bad, but it demands discernment. Not all alternative sources are created equal, and simply dismissing consensus science doesn’t count as critical thinking. So, while you’re busy dismissing well-supported evidence, remember: the real delusion might be thinking that skepticism alone counts as informed reasoning.

So, your political science degree qualifies you to ignore the science and follow someone whose main credential in this area is a law degree? Solid critical thinking—right up there with trusting a plumber to do brain surgery. Your post reads like a checklist of logical fallacies: cherry-picking, red herrings, irrelevant authority, overgeneralization, confirmation bias, and even a touch of ad hominem. That's not critical thinking; it's just selectively contrarian noise. Are you following Trump “straight from the horse’s mouth” on every wild claim, too?
-
RFK Jr. is a known purveyor of conspiracy theories and vaccine misinformation, and you choose to believe him? Seems critical thinking isn’t your strong suit. So, are you ready to take everything “straight from the horse’s mouth” from Trump too? Did Trump win in 2020? Will he accept the 2024 results if he loses?
