  1. yes a real 4 wheel job 500k up i see john deere although I suspect they are something else with a JD badge. I also see small New Holland stuff and yanmar iseki. The kubota advantage to me is the possibility of patent parts/second hand parts. I guess there are fitters around who have the skills to repair.
  2. I am told what there is actually built is open . I despair at the driving.
  3. Can it really be true ? I love isaan and Korat. The downside is getting there. Train is slow and driving is just horrible. I drive up route 2 and feel I need valium afterwards. Aggressive does not really describe driving standards. Is the motorway just a racetrack best left alone or will mean those of us who prefer a leisurely drive be able to use the regular road underneath and enjoy more relaxed experience. Then there is still the climb up past the cement works .
  4. I am thinking of buying the long term g/f family an agricultural tractor for a small farm . Her parents are long gone. Call it a sort of sinsot. Anyone got any thoughts on makes. The orange ones look the most used. I used to work on a horiticultural unit in the uk and remember using Kubotas. Little experience on other small tractor manufacturers. The local dealers had some second hand items. I am guessing these could be repo s . is there such a thing as farm auctions in Isaan. I am sure there must be bailiff sales etc.
  5. condensed milk flavoured 3 in 1 coffee used to be nice also the tea you see in the south made with condensed milk is good for me especially when its poured over crushed ice.
  6. Ah yes New rai lines !!!! I work in london UK. Look what happens when a new rail service is discussed not even built . The real issue is splitting up a farm rather buying land. Having said that is is not far from route 2 and a few miles from the route of the new rail link. BTW I was in Saraburi recently . I know folk have mixed feelings about the " Silk Road" But the construction is impressive
  7. There is an old saying " son is a son until he finds a wife a daughter is for life"
  8. I would shop around . You can get them done in europe for far less or at least the same this is in the uk Cataract Surgery Costs in The UK | Optegra Trust me i am looking at treatment and much less in central europe. Fancy a holiday somewhere china or india maybe malaysia. BTW it is normal to have one done and then go back for the other after healing. How about getting an independent assessment at a medical school. Is she showing symptoms that are causing problems Where are you ? Get out to the provinces if you are in BKK or Pattaya. KK has a good medical school
  9. I find it quite shocking just how little educated thais actually earn . School teachers, public servants and alike. Mr Farang arrives in village for retirement then builds a house . Farang dies 10 years later say late sixties. Mrs Thai gets some of farang occupational pension and his savings and maybe assetts in the west. Other women must look at this and think did I pick the right husband. But look at this as an example. Two thai children grow up. One goes abroad to work maybe marry foreigner. The other stays behind looks after parents and farm. Does the one who left owe anything to the one who stayed ?
  10. jts-khorat , Yes indeed thanks for that . I think she assumes that she can do the land split without formality. I am suspicious that there maybe no will. Anyway the hunt for a qualified lawyer continues.
  11. The uk based thai lady friend has a problem back at the family farm in isaan. She and 2 other sisters regard the family farm as jointly owned. Sister one in LOS has her name on the house book , sister two has a daughter. Daughter has had considerable amount of money spent on her education and even had a brand new car bought for her or least a very large deposit. Daughter is attractive with no kids or any problems. The daughters education was paid for by wealthy foreign employers . The idea was that daughter would get a decent job and help take care of her mother in her later years. Despite this daughter has not managed to get a decent job and seems to think the foreign money from uk based sister 3 will carry on for ever. To add to it she has moved back to the family home and found a useless boyfriend actually a local school teacher. Both are in debt with little sign of ever paying off debts. They do little to pay the bills. Both seem to enjoy driving decent cars and posh phones etc. Boyfriend is effectively moving in and getting his feet under table. Sister 3 in the UK is angry and wants to split up the land and looking for a decent surveyor. I have been trying to find a decent lawyer. Ideally an english speaking lawyer. Not so much to start court proceedings but a least give advice on potential outcomes. A few firms have been suggested but when i asked said legal folk if they are bona fida lawyers conversations seem to stop. Some firms are not actually thai owned . So I am looking for a qualified registered lawyer ideally english speaking and based in isaan korat or KK maybe. I asked a couple of individuals about charging but they did not want to answer that question. Any thoughts.
  12. I wondered about that. Apparently someone will collect the passport from where it is delivered and bring it back to the UK. Anyway she is off to Central as I type.
  13. the gf is with her adult son near Pattaya and has left it to the last minute to get her thai pass port extended. Not sure why she is bothering. She lives in uk and has a uk passport. where does she go as in where is the nearest office ???
  14. thanks for that. What are the classes of insurance ?
  15. There was someone in a shop in korat who almost refused to sell the latex pipe printer. Ironically Cannon have a factory south of korat where they make printers and copiers. I wonder if the shop owner knows something about printers. ??? even more bizaare is that I know a lady who works in said factory and cannot buy the factory product
  16. there is a you tube review of the canon bulk tank printer and referred to the waste part as a printer potty and complained about resetting it after it got loaded and needed emptying
  17. Most of us I guess have seen them with bottles of ink fixed to the sides and thin latex pipes . Anyone any experience.
  18. I remember years ago in bkk for the first time and entering that huge IT place near Pratunam . Amongst the the endless stall holders selling motherboards were folks selling reasonably priced software. I was in Korat and old it building looks like it is on its last legs. Do any of these places still exist. I am looking for a copy of Office. Yes I have seen the deals on ebay. I object to paying for a 365 subs considering how little I use it. any thoughts
  19. yes indeed i remember something similar on one the islands. The aircon and the shower connected.
  20. I forgot add WHY do they have this annoying habit of putting bathroom sinks outside the bath room
