Phuket immigration rules are not CW rules. Most immigration offices don't want the TM28, just the TM30.

That's right Max. The sense I have is exactly this. They want you logged into the TM30. However a guy wants to get this done. I suggest you get your landlord or your significant other to sign up on the TM30 website (link below) and log you in every time you travel and don't stay in a hotel. After the sign in process, you can begin even doing the TM30 yourself if you get the log in information from the person that signs up on the site. I just have my wife do it. You cannot get a receipt when you log in each time, so complete a screen shot of each entry. When you go to your local immigration office, for any 90 day reporting (they will likely not ask about TM30) or when it comes time to renew your extension, they should have a record of your log ins on the computer. If not, you will have your screen shots as evidence. The TM28 is supposed to be for when you need to make a permanent address change. But as is clearly pointed out by the immigration news report from Phuket I posted, many are pointing to the TM28 needing to filled out, only if for some reason a TM30 was unable to be completed.

I had the son in law do it for my wife 4 weeks ago and not even had an acknowledgement that it has been received and she has already done a TM30 at our local IO office and will probably have to keep doing it that way every 90 days after i go out/back in .

Here is the issue folks... As many of you are aware, the Thai government is cracking down in all areas of immigration. They are dragging out old laws on the books and trying to enforce them now. It's clumsy, and it's going to be clumsy. Everyone reading this needs to get up to speed on this. In regards to the TM30/TM28 issue, they (the various immigration officials and different locations throughout Thailand) have made it clear that you cannot avoid this reporting requirement. I have made some basic recommendations, as just a regular expat like the rest of you, based upon my own attempt to pay attention and personally navigate. The bottom line is... you will need to have completed either the TM30 (yes your landlord or your wife must do it) or the TM28 to show that you are in compliance. The are many reports that the TM6 is going bye, bye and the TM30/28 and TM47 (90 day reporting) are going to be reportable through a smart phone app. Let us all support this app, if successful this will be the best thing since sliced bread. Right!

    I totally agree... ????????????

Those drowning in your noon time beer, we're not here to save you. Don't drag the rest of us in. It is amusing, however to watch you negative Charlies gasp for air while I sip my tea. My best attempt at sarcasm fella's. Feel free to judge... did I mention the amusement.

Evidently, I didn't need to do a thing in this case (a short holiday away from home) except to ask my apartment owner to do her part (TM30 online). But since I'm renewing my visa extension next week, I'm glad to have the TM30 screenshot from my apartment owner to show if needed.

Right. This is how I understand it. As long as the TM30 is filled out... we don't have to do anything except comply with TM28 should we change our address.

Nonsense. 90 day report has nothing to do with tm30. Full stop.

    OP deals with CW.

Can you advise personally your recent experience there re 90 day report or attending for annual extension.

I can and tm30 not even mentioned. Along with many recent reports.

The OP, inquired about next extension due at CW.

When did you do your most recent there?

No. I cannot advise any personal experiences... I have only read others reports on this. And... I don't have those links handy. You're just going to have to trust that I am not lying to you.

  6. I would suggest reading the entire article here is a relevant excerpt. There are many reports of TM30/28 evidence being asked for at 90 day reporting and at extension renewal time. I don't agree with the "Do nothing" advice. Have your Thai wife sign up on the TM30 website (see link below) and just have her put you in the system at least for your arrival. This will be recorded at your local IO.

“No, we don’t hold foreigners responsible for filing the TM30. Foreigners just need to make sure that they fill in a TM28. The TM30 is the landlord’s job,” Phuket Immigration Deputy Chief Col Nareuwat Putthawiro said plainly on Wednesday (Aug 28). The TM30 is the form for landlords to report to Immigration within 24 hours of the arrival of any foreign tenants, as required under Section 38 of the Thailand Immigration Act of 1979. The TM28 form is for foreigners to report themselves to Immigration after staying away from their registered address for more than 24 hours, as required under Section 37 (c) of the same act. “The TM30 is the house owner’s responsibility, whether the home owner is a Thai or a foreigner,” Col Nareuwat said. If a landlord refuses to – or is unable to – comply by filing a TM30 to report the foreigner as staying, or returning to stay, at the foreigner’s registered address, that is not the foreigner’s responsibliity, Col Nareuwat explained. “All the foreigner has to do is submit a TM28. That’s all the foreigner is responsible for. If the foreigner is applying for an extension to stay, they need not worry about whether or not their landlord has reported them through a TM30 – it will not affect the foreigner’s application,” he added.

We are witnessing the death-throes of these societies, the last ditch effort to keep the party going a few more years.

Agreed. My prediction is Trump gets it for another four years... then the whole country is going to fall apart after his final four years. They won't be able to prop up the economy any further... and when it crashes again like in 2008, it's going to gouge deep.

  8. It's different for everyone. Your particulars are required to answer your question.

You have to weigh what your amounts will be at 62, 67 and 70. Factors such as other income sources and tax implications play a big factor. here are two great links to calculators that give you a look at different scenarios to see how you should proceed. The first requires you to sign up for an online account where you will be able to view your amounts, secondly a calculator for the previously mentioned scenarios.

be careful what you do, I had 2 friends who had invested in government bonds because the interest rate was good but were then warned on extension renewals that it wouldn't be allowed again.

The one constant in Thailand is every bank, every immigration office seemingly makes its own interpretations... It is always best to go to the bank and just ask... do they have any investment options that will qualify for immigration. In turn, go to your immigration office and ask what exactly is required to show proof of income.

  10. It is highly unlikely that your father will qualify for an insurance policy for the OA retirement VISA (see link below). Two options. As DrJack54 suggests you have the non-immigrant O option. Have your father obtain the 90 day VISA Non-Immigrant O then convert to a one year on arrival Thailand. Or as you point out, go the Elite route. 500,000 baht for 5 years. Of course neither of these give a solution for health coverage while in Thailand. He may be able to qualify for a medical travel insurance to cover him when in Thailand.

So I've begun looking at Elite visa AND/OR Pacific Cross insurance. At this stage I could go either way, and sticking with the 65K monthly if not Elite.

I am only 51 years old on a "Thai Marriage" Visa. If your not interested in that for reasons of keeping a lower monthly or lower bank amount, I would say stick with your current 65K per month bank statement Non-Immigrant O. Keep your cash liquid, or invested elsewhere in my opinion. I consider the Thai Elite as a last minute go to in the event all the VISAs (in the future) require insurance and then I cannot qualify and I am invested fully in Thailand, girl, house, retired life etc. Keep your pacific cross at a high deductible essentially a "catastrophic" policy so that you are paying a lower premium... since you remain healthy. Pay out of pocket for the simple doc visits.
