Huh??? Where did I quote they're the "worst"? I said they are one of the biggest human rights offenders. Twisting my words, must be a trump supporter.

Forced disappearances, airstrikes in Yeman, no freedom of expression, death penalty, death penalty by stoning, flogging, serious lack of woman's rights, harsh laws against the LBGT community, Sharia law and so on.

You must be American then. The UAE is not Saudi Arabia. Go learn some world geography and educate yourself.

The only one with limited knowledge seems to be you

No, you are. I didn't say perfect. I said not the worst. Political freedoms and Religous freedoms are different, The UAE has restrictions on both these. I am not saying I agree with it. I am saying I understand it. For the most part, there are very few problems within the UAE. If you look to the country North of the UAE there lies most of the Middle East issues.

I have a lot of money on deposit with various UK banks and building societies. All the interest is paid tax-free and I never have any tax to pay on it.

Given that interest rates are much higher onshore, and given that the deposit insurance is much stronger onshore, I see little point in having any significant money offshore. I do have a couple of offshore accounts but I use them to receive some small UK payments that would be taxable if they were paid onshore.

I also have a UK credit card which I would be very unwilling to do without. Debit cards are not the same at all.

Well said. OP keep the UK accounts. If you want an offshore account then there are many options. Personally, I like HSBC Expat. I have a reason for having this account as I work in the Middle East.

They can’t even get the 90 Day Reporting to work efficiently online, that involves maybe a handful of Expats, what chance is there of setting up a system to deal with millions of tourists ?

Nothing to do with that. One payment. One standard policy document. One set of T&C's on what is covered. Easy. Pay online beforehand or get in the queue on arrival. Lots of countries a lot less efficient than Thailand do this.

Yes, because the EPL is a right on organisation and would never ever consider allowing an unfit person own a football club. UAE are one of the world's biggest human rights offenders, and over in Paris, not EPL I know, there's the lovely fellas from Qatar.

What a load of crap. How is the UAE one of the worst human rights offenders? I admit they are far from perfect but "worst" is not correct. You are obviously very limited in your knowledge of the world.

So you discount US favoured countries such as Saudi and Israel. What a lot of US mythos you sprout.

Where there are wars and rumours of wars, you will find the US and the US arms industry.

It is a sad thing when you truly believe your own county's propaganda.

I am not American. Also, the Middle East is in a conflict in many different areas. It's not the same as in Thailand. Saudis are no angels but if you are picking between them and the other fanatics in the region then its no contest.

Many people will pay for it.

Can you provide a link to the French billionaire..and his connections to the Vatican?

..and give any reasons as to why the French gov't and people will not assist in paying for it?

There is no link to the Vatican. I was saying that instead of a request to go fund me the Vatican could meet the cost easily.

  9. I know with a little experience (Brit) I have had that the Embassy can pay and someone stands as a guarantor in the UK. Effectively a loan. They also take your passport off you until the bill is paid. Not sure if this is still the case though.

I am not a big fan of the Telegraph but a well put and quite an apt comment in this article and can be used frequently in my opinion on the TVF.
