  1. I'd guess the problem is that there's a significant overlap between those who are too "disorganized" to take a pill a day and those who don't have a condom ready when they need it. So that group ends up having no protection whatsoever, although several good options exist.
  2. Great news for all those who've been waiting for this for a long time.
  3. That kind of foreign interference should be illegal everywhere. It's deplorable that an American oligarch can sponsor political campaigns in the UK.
  4. They've had these checks in place for a long time. What's new is that the checks can now be performed before the traveler rocks up at the immigration counter, using the passenger data that the airline provides. That speeds up the process at inbound immigration, and you might even get a special welcome at the gate.
  5. Maybe they tell themselves otherwise because it's working for them. My grandmothers both lived well into their 90s and enjoyed the occasional tipple. What would have been the point in going tee-total? Reaching age 100? I'm all for drinking in moderation.
  6. That will have people panicking again...
  7. That's a very bad decision.
  8. Yes of course, they use positive language and the stated goal is to use the DTV as one way to promote Thai soft power. That is an interesting idea in principle, but history tells us that visas that are easy to get are also easily abused by too many, which will then result in a reaction by the Thai authorities (crackdowns by immigration, tightening of rules by the MFA). I don't think the DTV will be an exception. How the MFA will then make it harder to get a DTV, for example by removing the "soft options" (I think this term used by @DrJack54 is catchy to describe them) altogether or by adding requirements, remains to be seen, but I think it's likely that we will see some changes. Just look at how easy language school Non-Ed visas could be obtained first and how much of a pain it became later.
  9. I haven't seen any reports of that nature and there certainly isn't any official rule in place. If you meet the requirements and have the documentation to show that you're still working, I'd say go for it, you should be fine.
  10. Zero. Anything else would be insane for a woman who's already given birth.
  11. Is that Zuck sucking up to the new leadership? Sure looks this way.
  12. He's a good guy. But it's a shame that he didn't know when to call it quits, which will taint his legacy.
  13. It does count. You're still entering Vietnam, just under a special visa exempt scheme for Phu Quoc. You will get Vietnamese entry and exit stamps, and as far as Thai immigration is concerned, it's just a regular international trip.
  14. Okay, since we're posting personal feelings now... mine is that the main reason to roll out the ETA is to collect the often delayed tourist fee to enter Thailand. Then in typical Thai fashion, they planned to use the existing eVisa site for this purpose, but forgot to consider two things: Firstly, eVisas aren't available everywhere yet. Secondly, does the eVisa system scale to the much higher number of visa exempt entries without problems? That's why it's getting delayed.
  15. Indeed. What a mess!
  16. Seems to be fairly standard, appearances are more important than anything else. The results speak for themselves.
  17. As the DTV isn't a non-immigrant visa, or equivalent, I'm not very hopeful that the banks will adjust their policies to accommodate DTV visa holders. Using an agent to help with opening a bank account might well be your best bet, especially if you need it done soon.
  18. Yes, I remember that as well. What's never clear to me is why exactly they are being arrested, as normal procedure for people who surrender at airport immigration with "just" an overstay is imposing a fine and a ban right there at the airport and letting them leave. Maybe he refused to pay, or couldn't, as the article also mentions that he insulted officials.
  19. As there's no official rule as to the number of visits per year, any IOs making up their own rules can count the visits any way that suits them. You gave me a good chuckle with the tidbit about taking your cat along. I thought I've heard it all. It's an interesting point though; if you were denied entry, you would have to hope that they properly take care of your cat while you're in detention waiting for your flight back. That would be extra stressful to say the least.
  20. An entry from a VoA can neither be extended nor can it be changed to a non-immigrant visa entry.
  21. What will stop Trump from reacting to that move by imposing tariffs on Thai exports as well? Nothing
  22. That doesn't even exist at border crossings with Cambodia anymore. Nowadays you have to walk up to Cambodia's IOs yourself to get stamped in and out, because they take your picture and fingerprints.
  23. I see, that can be tricky. I'll have a look what they accept.
  24. Can foreigners who reside in Thailand open a new IBKR account with their Thai address? Or did all those of you who use IBKR in Thailand open an account with them when you still lived elsewhere?
