Here in Thailand: Are you Old Money? Or Nouveau Riche?
swissie replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Truly rich Farangs I have not met in Thailand. Not old money, not nuveau riche. They don't retire in Thailand. But I met a lot of Farangs that worked hard all their lives. Having accumulated some "wealth". But most of them relying on some sort of pensions, coming from the home country. Most get by nicely in Thailand. I have not yet met a Farang that made his fortune in Thailand. Of course, due to favorable exchange rates and generally lower cost of living, Farangs may easily feel "rich". Inevitably some arrive with a million and leave with a thousand. Those cases are almost always "woman related" in one way or the other. Such situations are usually explained as "a series of bad decisions", or even better "acts of God". Fortunately rather the exception than the rule. I'd say that most Farangs are doing OK, without "old money" or being "nuveau riche". PS: The authors posts are full of twists and turns. It's his trade mark. But bringing refrigerators and airlines into a context within the headline of "Old Money and Nuveau Riche", the direct linkage is hard to establish. Unless the message is: With "old money", I was able to buy a refrigerator in Asia, some 500 years ago. Embedded in many twists and turns, I suppose, this was the message of this post. - Well understood, I woulden't want to go without the daily postings of the OP. It is recommended that old folks shoud do crossword puzzles to stay mentally fit. Not me! I try to figure out, what the OP is trying to tell me today instead. All is well. -
Delightful. More positive posts here. But.........

Finally, I came to the conclusion, that I would only go with a Health Insurance Company that is legally based in Europe. "AA World" based in India? Might as well be based in Panama or Timbuktu. -

1 million US$ coverage for less than 500$ month, even in an age bracket over 85 years? Who would insure a person at this age to begin with? I am shaking in my boots. If that were the case, every private health insurer would have gone bankrupt by now. How much is 1 Million US$ in Thai baht? It would cover 77 haeart bypass surgeries in a Thai Hospital. Something like that can't be. You know it. You may want to read the "fine-print" once more. You mentioned AA. I was insured by AA while staying in Thailand. I will try again. Back then I found them expensive. All in THB, not US$. But, according to your recommendation I will suck up to AA once more. If your quotes shoud be correct, I may re-locate to Thailand. Squandering my unexpected savings (a windfall profit) on womwn of ill repute. Or giving elderly women 20 Bht, them sweepintg the sidewalks of beach road occasionally. Around 6 AM. Me awaiting the sunrise while reading yesterdays newspaper. Tempting outlook, me thinks. -
Sometimes we should try to limit our brains capacity to "think too much". There is a reason why Psychiatrists in the US are commonly known as "shrinks". If old Sigmund Freud would be living in our time, he would have come to the conclusion that: "Happyness is not a warm gun mama". Much rather: "As long as you can pay for a decent BJ after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner, this is the utmost form of happyness you should aspire to". The rest is twisting your brain. He would also have arrived at the conclusion that "love" is nothing else than hormones going wild and electro magnetic storms racing within our brains, giving the strict command: REPRODUCE NOW! Even he would find something like his "Oedipus-Complex" rather amusing today. Among other things.

YOU are exaggerating I find. It's just that I think that too many Farangs, upon re-locating to Thailand packed some "rose coloured glasses", when they should have packed a magnifying glass instead. That way, much grief could have been avoided. -

Of course, I meant "price quote" not quota. Other than that, the Enigma is solved. With a coverage of only 1 Million, you are underinsured. Any serious hospitlalisation will cost way more these days. Today, coverage should be 5 million. Given that, one quickly gets near a monthly premium of $ 500. -

Hardly. Insurane companies featuring such (low) quatas have their domicile in Panama. Hard to file any claims agaist a P.O. BOX in Panama. Wake up Sheryl. Unless you want to give me a similar quote originating from a established European Insurer. I would jump at it. Surely, your effots will be in vain. -

Finally it's a lottery. The point is: Farangs remaining in their home country receive "free healthcare", one way or the other. Mostly ceasing when laeaving "home country". After that, it's only $ 500/month Private Health Insurance in Thailand. Thai State run hospitals, although "cheap" is not a place where a Farang wuold like to end up. I have been there. Forget it! -
Increasingly more positive posts here. Much to my delight. But.... All Farangs must be "rich" as they can pay for a 500$ Private Health Insurance/month, even more once past 70, or self insure (the limit is the sky). My conclusion is therefore that all Farangs must be "rich". Unfortunately I do not qualify, otherwise I would still be in Thailand, paying my $ 500 monthly just for health coverage. During my stay in Thailand (5 years) I have seen the other side of the coin. On 3 occasions, the Farangs ended up in hospital. Their cash reserves dwindling fast. Even faster dwindled the support of their "Thai-Families". An extremely sobering experiance for me. A Thailand "game changer" for me, under the motto "something like that will never happen to me". Clearly, such devastating "occurrences" seldom find their way into "Thai Social Media". For the very simple reason that the Farang is dead and can't post anymore, much to the delight of the predatory Thai Family. Remarkable: An European Insurance guy in Pattaya once told me " Most Farangs here think they will die of a merciful quick death, completely disregarding the fact that most people die in hospital". End of quote. Certainly not wanting to spoil anyones party. So, stay healthy and/or stay rich. Amen.

With my health restored, I can think of another trip to Thailand (mostly Pattaya). Haven't been there for 7 years. So I am not "up to date". Before, I always stayed on Soi Post Office/Soi Yamato. Loved to be near the sea, loved the friendly Guest Houses and loved the uncomplicated way to make friends with ladies on Beach Road. "Not that great anymore" I was told. Suggesting all kinds of other places. Soi Buakao for example. Note: I never got involved in the "Bar-Fine-Business", nor in "Tinder-Aquaintances". Not willing to change this concept. Afraid, by relocating away from Beach Road, I will be entangeled in the "Bar-Fine/Tinder" hokus-pokus that I don't want to be part of. Any updates? Remember, I haven't been in Pattaya for the last 7 years.

All very well analysed and written. For "the west" 2 problems only: 1) Putin losing the war and willing to push "the red button". 2) The live goal of Xi is to "bring home" Taiwan during his lifetime. At 70 he will be forced to act rather sooner than later. Everything else are internal Chinese affairs. Other than that, we sould be carefull how the West deals with China. Never forgetting that 90% of the "rare earths" are found in China.

After retirement, what? - for a Thai national
swissie replied to ravip's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Come on. I know the exchange rates. The question was more adressed to Farangs complaining about their meagre pension benefits in comparison of Thai old age benefits. I have no idea how an old person can live on BHT 600/month. Thankfully we were born into a so called "nanny state". Otherwise most of Farangs could not live in Thailand in their "golden years". Long live a well organised "nanny state". -

FACTS ANYONE? Every Thai over 60 can get a a monthly pension of THB 600. Until now. The current government has just decided that only "poor people" will get the BHT 600 in the future. Them having to prove that they are "poor". As an immediate reaction to this outrage, several organisations are counter-acting this outrage and demanding that the minimum rent should be raised to 3000BHT/month. May they succeed. How much is 600 BHT in your "western currency"? -
I have done what you are contemplating to do. Result: Ejaculate consists of 2 drops. Rest goes into the blatter. The blatter not familiar with this strange fluid reacts by fighting this "intruder". 1 day after ejaculation, urinating comes with a burning sensation. And yes, with those 2 exiting drops remaining, you will be basically infertile. AFAIK only done with old males. To suggest this procedure to younger males (still in their reproductive phase) is outrageous.

One can expand on this: "The curse of old age is, that the memories of your youth are still with you".
-
Truly, at old age, I make fewer mistakes than when I was young. Looking back, the mistakes I made during my youth border on lunacy. I am so much wiser now. I wish to have the wisdom of today back when I was young (at a time when certain life-decicisions were of crucial importance), as oppoosed of today where the remaining decisions are of minor importance. There is something wrong with this concept. We need wisdom when we are young, having the life in front of us, instead of having accumulated wisdom in old age, serving little practical use anymore. The gods must hate us as an easy answer. Not necessarily. They may have no TV and streaming sevices, so, their only form of endless amusement is watching the young earthlings fall on their snout over and over again. The only true "knee-slapper" for entertainment purposes for the gods. So it comes, that I have little inclination to talk about this unfortunate reverse concept with the gods at some point in the future. I much rather keep answering the questions of Pattaya Girls. Like "where do you come from" etc etc. This is where I can apply my accumulated wisdom best. May it last a while longer.

Once upon a time there was a poster here that won the prize of "poster of the year". Well deserved. His posts right to the point, witty and charming. I call him the "pink panther" with a liking to big american cars. After having won the prize of all prizes, he went into hybernation. To the delight of some posters here, his recent re-incarnation here has not gone unnoticed. Especially religious folks must be thrilled, as it proves that re-incarnation can still happen. Alas, his comments of today differ somewhat of his comments of yesteryear, while "keeping his eyes on the price" back then. Today his comments are a bit "spicy" it seems. Verbal confrontation mainly on his agenda these days. Not likely, he spent his absence in a buddhist temple, more likely he offered his writing skills to a London Tabloid paper. Accumulating some agressive "spice" to his todays writing style. Reply welcome. But I will also go into hybernation for a couple of days. I will be hunting Bengal Tigers in the Swiss Alps.
