In need of a bit of advice.
I am in Thailand on a retirement extension and use the 800k method. I never let my "visa" account drop below 800k so money is not the problem.I renewed my extension in September of last year and my 90 day report is due on 20th of march. Will the new rules be applied in March so that i will have to get a letter from my bank showing 400k ?, or will the new rule not apply till later?
Thanks in advance

Oh please spare me the self indulgent "everything is about me" whine.
You weren't speaking of some individual person or some individual's circumstances. You claimed all retires and farang married to Thais would be milked for all they could get and, given all the brouhaha from all those unable to manage Baht 65,000 a month or to put Baht 800,000 in a bank, there are a lot of retirees here who can barely make it from month to month let alone take on major medical expenses.
You're clearly trying to play the Great White Hope versus "the Thais" who are out to fleece the poor (literally) farang.
Not worthy of a reply

Thailand isn't quite the nanny state to which you're accustomed.
No, as opposed to responsible retirees who have more than enough money in Thailand to take care of ANY medical treatment necessary and therefore view health insurance as a waste of money.
Find out a person's circumstances before you refer to them as a freeloader

On Bht 8000 a month you must be living rather frugally, I assume you pay no rent, very little electricity, do not have internet or health insurance.
I think frugally is a bit of an understatement

Firstly let me say i really feel for you guys relying on monthly income for extension renewals since the embassies stopped verifying these, i hope it works out for everyone, you don't need hassle like that when you're retired.
My question is, does anyone know or has anyone heard anything about Thai authorities insisting on compulsory health insurance when renewing retirement extensions in the future? Obviously i read about the requirements for O - A visas, but to me it just seems a natural progression that the Thais would then start milking the retirees and those on marriage extensions for all they can get.
Thanks in advance

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.
Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?
I started claiming my UK state pension last October. I made the application over the phone and when it came to where i would like the money paid into i was told it could be paid into any account worldwide.
I opted for monthly payments into my UK account simply because of the awful exchange rate at the moment. At a later date i will change the recipient bank to Kasikorn, this change cannot be done online, only by phone

Last week i got my new British passport. Took old and new passports to IO at Jomtien, along with the letter given to me by HMPO in Bangkok. Needed to get a few photocopies done at immigration, then submitted everything and had to go back the next day to collect my passports. Didn't take long at all and free of charge

Might be a warning for UK folk with "no deal exit" coming soon. Pound won't be climbing any time soon.
Exactly the opposite

I've had a pink I.D. card for 3 years.
Apart from showing it instead of a passport at hotel checkin and paying Thai price at national parks, attractions etc. it's not much good for anything else

Follow the advice from ubonjoe, it's spot on. I renewed my UK passport last month. Downloaded and completed the payment form, £118.51 including courier fee

Even with a valid will payment must wait for legal process. More headaches for those who are supposed to not have to face such difficulties; and their survivors.
On the topic of what happens to the 800k lying in a Thai bank account when you pass away.
A German friend of mine passed away last July. He was hospitalised, and when it became obvious to him that he wasn't going to live till his next extension of stay date, he told his Thai wife to take 50,000 out of the ATM per day till the account was empty which she did. Shouldn't have to do things like that but it's better than your money ending up in the bank's or government's pocket.

They will give you a letter from the embassy requesting your stamps be transferred when you pickup your new passport.
Thanks ubonjoe, much appreciated

In need of a bit advice.
I am a Brit on 3rd year of retirement extension in Thailand. 4 weeks ago i applied to renew my British passport at H.M.P.O. in Bangkok so i am expecting them to contact me anytime now to say the new passport is ready to collect.
My query is this, do i need a form from H.M.P.O. in order to have the stamps transferred from the old passport to new passport? or is it a simple case of going to immigration with both passports and asking them to transfer everything. Someone recently told me that i need a form but they couldn't remember which form.
Thanks in advance

I need some advice from you immigration gurus out there.
I have been retired in Thailand for 2 years on a married visa as my wife is Thai. Due to all the hassle involved last year in renewing the married visa i have decided to apply for a retirement visa this year when it is due at the beginning of October.
My question is this, because it will be a my 1st application for a retirement visa, is it 2 months that the 800k has to have been in my account?, or is it 3 months because i have already been here for 2 years on a different visa. The amount isn't a problem, just means i might have to shuffle some money.
Thanks in advance
Retirement extension for an Australian couple
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
I have Australian friends here in Thailand, they are a married couple and have been retired here for 4 years
Recently when speaking to the man, he mentioned having to keep 1.6 million in the bank for extension renewals.
Is it not possible that he applies for the extension and she accompanies as a dependent on the same extension therefore freeing up 800,000?
I mentioned this to him, although he hasn't asked that question at immigration he seems to think that they couldn't because they're Australian, that doesn't make sense to me.
Anyone have the answer?
Thanks in advance
