The average Thai rarely does things to irk me if they are not driving a automobile.   It is the officialdom, the entitled and the ultra nationalist Thais that are intolerable.  They are just hopeless

I can agree with that sentiment. Average Thais are, on balance, pleasant. And I much prefer them to the "upper-class" Thais. Insufferable is the perfect way to describe them. I'm highly allergic to them, but, sadly, I'm forced to deal with them in my work.

I deal with upper classes from dozens of countries in my work, often having to live in foreign countries for lengthy periods. Upper-class Thais are among the most ignorant people I deal with. They are like I imagine wealthy North Koreans might be. Truly bizarre people.

  2. Fault does not rest primarily with the media. No Thai wants to admit it plainly, but the problem is far deeper. The entire of the society is primitive in its thinking. Much of this, in my opinion, is by design. Without a relatively uninformed populace, much of Thai-ness would disappear.

What a complete waste of a good education is all that comes to mind.   She as no love for participatory government or is even aware of due process.  It is obvious her parents gave her everything she wanted while she was growing up with the exception of good manners and good sense.  No wonder why I hate Thai beer.

Indeed. I've been saying since I arrived the problem with locals is not in their ability to learn, it is rather in their disinterest in learning the right things when those things disagree with their cultural leanings.

What it amounts to is that talking to many Thais with world-class education, who have traveled the world, is little different from taking to Thais with none. Their cultural predispositions, and how steadfastly they hold to them, make them perfectly predictable and boring.

It wouldn't be the first tourist attraction with a morbid theme... There are plenty of examples worldwide..

But they weren't selling tickets for the other places, whilst the dramas were still unfolding !!!

No offense intended to our friends, but this is what you get when a nation's national character is heavily influenced by Chinese culture. Ruthless mercantilism.

It's called adventure training, and he's done it before. The caves were not closed for rainy season when they went in.

You must admit that taking them there without the parents' or Park Management's knowledge was a lapse in judgement?

I don't care if they'd done it 500 times without problem. This logic of "it has not been a problem for me yet" is a central problem if Thai character. There is no way he should have taken them down there without people on notice in case something went wrong.

One would expect a guardian to be able to exercise better logic with or without signs.

A country which looks after it's own ppl. which is more than I can say for countries like the EU.

A country that looks after its ethnically Chinese ppl, yes. If you haven't noticed, the brown ones aren't doing nearly as well and even have allowed the Chinese Thais to convince them that they are inferior for being native Thai.

In Thailand you need a long last name and light skin to be really happy.
