  1. Yeah right, I see so many smug farang sitting in bars congratulating themselves on a whole hour saved cos they paid an agent 10+k baht to...erm save them an hour.
  2. So you just travel in a straight line then?
  3. WTF has this to do with US air bases? Since you mention it though, can you give evidence of expats attempting to "live off Thailand"? It must be difficult to see from the dizzy heights of your moral ground. I know many expats who can't quite attain the 4/800k in bank yet still live good lives whilst supporting their families and Thai businesses locally. Yeah right, Thailand should bar entry to all farang who can't afford to live in soulless gated communities or sterile, secure, expensive condos. Jeez!
  4. "right wing liberals" "legitimately abused thai women"! What are you on?
  5. When I read the subject of this post I just knew that the milk of human kindness would be in full flow for this unfortunate fellow. Oh hang on....it seems to have run dry.
  6. Jeez. How many times must it be said. Thaksin was already a very rich, successful businessman before entering politics. As for Yingluk she was brought down by the Rice Pledge Scheme. She benefitted not 1baht but investigators found that middle managers were gorging on the government's generous subsidies. Funnily, nothing came of the investigation and with no shame Suthep gathered his armed thugs and went around collecting money for the poor farmers at the bottom of the pile. At one point it was said that he'd collected 4 million baht but months later not one farmer had received anything.
  7. I've so far not seen any details of Thaksin's "crimes" on this thread so maybe someone can put flesh on the bones of the auction of Bangkok land which Mrs Thaksin bid for and won (her bid was 2nd highest). Mr Thaksin's "crime" was that he was party to this by signing the land documents. Thai law required at the time that a wife needed her husband's signature on such documents. Come back Thaksin. You'll have the haters in the Bangkok elite whipped up into a frenzy but the vast majority of Thais want you back.
  8. Like the "serious political turmoil" that we suffered in 2014 at the hands of Suthep and his armed yellow shirt thugs?
  9. When I saw the subject I knew who would reply with their accustomed venom and I wasn't disappointed. For what it's worth; Thaksin was already a very wealthy businessman before entering politics so didn't need to rob the Thai people.
  10. Well done Christian, you've taken a bit of pressure off us Brits. We've taken a bit of a kicking this past week or so.
  11. Let's just with the theft of their democracy .
  12. Many Thais would love to move "Backward" to a party of Thaksin compared to what they've suffered over the past 9 years.
  13. I read the article to the end. Nothing to see here. Just some bloke stating the bleeding obvious.
  14. Som Tam's dependence on Fish sauce and sugar make it a no no for me. Notwithstanding the danger in adding sugar to any dish. (Look at the village clinics diabetes days). Liver cancer has been noted as a risk in eating this salad but there's another risk of cancer in the other Issan staple i.e. Snakehead fish and sticky rice where the family sit around, grab rice and then scrape the scales and exposed flesh with the sticky rice. Within the scales of these (not properly cooked) fish live the fluke worm which can attach to the kidneys leading to cancer.
  15. The graffiti clearly says "russia is a terrorist state".
  16. Hospital admissions of Thais suffering from paranoia, irrational behaviour etc attributed to the use of weed have rocketed by 500% since decriminalisation of weed. Source: A N. about a month ago.
  17. If I never go to that "paradise" again it'll be too soon.
  18. Good point but just because he has no valid passport doesn't mean he hasn't British citizenship.
  19. Yeah right. A 20 year gap between visits makes him a regular eh! It's reasonable to expect improvements to have been made in that time but sadly not. It's 15 years since I was in rip off central Pukhet and if I never go back to that thief infested hole it will be too soon.
  20. Short story: A few years back gf and I were riding my Honda 115cc from Hua Hin to Cha Am, not much traffic. All of a sudden a stream of bikers coming from Cha Am came to a U-turn gap wanting to return in the direction of Cha Am. Instead of waiting for gaps in traffic (of which there were many) the brave leader drove into the middle of the 3 lanes and held up his hands to stop the oncoming cars and trucks. Gf and I stopped to watch the spectacle. A trickle of bikers got into the 3rd lane but the Thai traffic wasn't gonna stop for them and drove around them. The lead biker was frantically waving his arms about and a line of bikers went down like dominoes in the confusion. I should add that no biker was hurt in this display of arrogance and entitlement on their part. As for the old guys who go round the narrow sois of Bintabaht on there Farty Davisons; yes guys people are looking at you but not in admiration.
  21. Spot on Oz. I love it when the Gammon get angry cos they (gammons) can't get a rise out of people who are tolerant, against racism, misogyny and homophobia. Woke n proud!
