Factories normally have their own canteens, post offices, GP offices, etc. Probably they would turn some unused area into sleeping area, but all the rest is already there.

The CEO of the worlds top canned tuna maker Thai Union operating out of  Samut Dakhon had this to say 1 month ago, after 69 out of more than 23,000 of his workers tested positive.

Those without symptoms would quarantine at home or at designated locations.

He has not ruled out Factory Closures if the situation worsens.

But, but, of course we always build factories with tens of acres of unused space to house our workers in times of need. Nuff said

I never smoked in my life. But I had and have friends who smoke. And I go to bars were officially smoking is banned but nobody cares. And I am just fine. Let smokers smoke. Have a little tolerance.

It makes sense that people don't smoke in offices or i.e. a bank. But people who smoke their whole life should be able to go on the balcony or in front of the door or wherever and have a cigarette (of cigar, or pipe).

If smoking is soooo bad then make it a crime to sell cigarettes. And maybe also make it a crime to sell alcohol.

And maybe to be sure don't allow any car with more that 50HP or a top speed over 100km/h.

I am sure there are many other rules and laws which would be for the "benefit" of the people.
    Yeah, sure.

Enjoy life - and let the smokers enjoy their life.

Most of us have some habits which others don't like. Should all be illegal? Over to you.

If you answer Yes to the last question -

Welcome to the ultimate Nanny State Australia; for everyone's enjoyment.

Tourism down 99.5%  but revenue only 99%.

So all tourists are going to spend twice what they have before............ duh.... or is it the rip off quarantine costs???????????????????????????????????

    I don't think so.

Expecting 50000 Tourists spending $142 Million in the 4th quarter amounts to $2840 per Tourist spent on average. With regard to the current conditions in place (2 week quarantine, minimum stay 30 days), this paltry sum hardly pays for Phuket's cheapest quarantine option.

  4. The report goes much further then simply compiling official numbers of active cases and death per capita. On these numbers alone, New Zealand would probably be in the top spot, showing zero active cases for many days and zero patients in hospital, successfully having eradicated the virus.

But many countries who have flattened the curve are now confronted with a severely damaged economy, millions unemployed and rising social unrest.

This report focuses increasingly on the competence of Governments, their financial strength and the efficiency of Government structures to strike the right balance between the measures to minimise infections without destroying the economy and millions of workplaces.

Important parameters are the size of economic support made available for workers and businesses to alleviate hardship, the economic sustainability of all the rules and measures to contain the spread, the quarantine timeline and the efficiency of government structures to act swiftly and with one voice.

While Thailand excelled in controlling the Pandemic, it can be argued wether or not at present the Government strikes the right balance in terms of the economic sustainability of their actions.

Furthermore, the Government is either unable or unwilling to financially support their people and (small) businesses in a meaningful way to lessen the misery and limit further damage to the economy.

It can also be argued if measures were introduced / withdrawn on a consistent and timely basis, a task not made easier with provincial powers allowed to make their own rules.

Finally, the report is being compiled for people living and working in a particular country, and it goes without saying that their priorities are different from Tourists visiting or retired expats.

And it is only required when you apply for a 1-year extension based on your original O-A Visa for reason of RETIREMENT.  When you apply for reason of marriage or dependant child, it is not required.

Also, as this topic is on the Phuket Forum, it is worthwhile to mention that since March Phuket IO does not enforce the thai IO-approved health-insurance requirement anymore.  This has been confirmed by 3 reports of Non Imm O-A Visa holders applying for the 1-year extension of stay for reason of retirement.  Phuket IO (and it seems also PhangNga IO) will evaluate their current 'non enforcement' practice in October, but till then the requirement will not be enforced.

Hopefully they will continue with that non-enforcement practice also after October, and it would be grand if also other IOs would follow the Phuket example.

I did my 1 year extension for the purpose of retirement 10 days ago and have not been asked for proof of Health Insurance.

I have been issued an O-A VISA some years ago.

Thailand does not have enough quarantine beds for repatriated nationals to spend 14 days in so why should the Thai government ad to that burden just so old matey can get his end wet and give the kids a cuddle.

Let me rephrase - the Thai Government does not want to spend money on quarantine facilities. They prefer spending the money here.

    https://www.thaipbsworld.com/category/news/business/

In further developments the Government signed a deal with various Hotels to to use their idling facilities as quarantine facilities. The arising cost are to be paid by the users of those facilities. And still no change in the policy of excluding all foreigners - incl. people married to Thais and have children!

Allowing non Thai nationals to enter increases the risk of the WuFlu spreading, sucks to be them but it is what it is and I appreciate Thailand's (and the other countries with similar/same policies) hard stance on this.

Non-Thais would go through the exact same procedure as Thai Nationals (government mandated quarantine).

So why do they carry a higher risk of spreading Covid-19?????

Please try to explain without resorting to the proverbial thai logic.

  8. I had a look at around more than houses in 2016 for rent through agents, cheapest offer on the market 18000. Without exception, all of them were either not maintained and in various stages of dilapidaton and/or void of any outdoor space. In addition I followed various leads from locals, trying to negotiate with owners.

The results were similar - either cheap (15000+ Baht) places, obviously not lived in judging by the number of broken appliances and mould on walls or well presented 2 bedroom properties with modern appliances in good working order with a pricetag of 30000+ Baht.

Finally after 2 months a friend told me of a house being vacated in 2 weeks and better act fast to get it.

Quick inspection ticked all the right boxes and 2 days later I was able to sign the contract. And since I paid a year in advance, no security deposit was required. Rent fully furnished remained at 11000 Baht to the present day and broken fixtures are promptly attended to by the owners, who are Muslims.

You need to read up more.  Zithromax is not being used to combat the virus it is being used as a second line defense against possible occurring bacterial infections causing pneumonia.

You're absolutely correct and that is the reason why I arranged to get the Pneumovax@23 shot against bacterial pneumonia.

Maybe read the OP's post again - he states being infected with SARS-CoV2 and Zithromax alone cleared Covid-19 from his System in 3 days.

The OP says it's "hydroxychlorophine" which I believe is a mispelling - it's actually hydroxychloroquine, or just plain ol' chloroquine which is commony prescribed for malaria and lupus. Yes, it is being trialled in the US and some other countries in tandem with azithromycin (Zithromax), and it was proven successful in China, but both drugs together or on their own are capable of causing you a heart attack because they interfere with the QT rhythm interval in your heart. In Thailand hydroxy is only available when prescibed by a doctor. See here at the CDC website for details of the trials: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/therapeutic-options.html

You can buy Zithromax OTC here, and I can tell you from experience that it DOES work, or at least it did for me when I got a pretty serious dose of COVID-19 a couple of months ago and self-medicated; but don't take it if you have any type of heart or blood pressure condition. This virus was so bad I told my wife on Day 8 that I was dying, but on Day 11, just three days after starting the Zithromax, I woke up as if nothing had ever happened, though I do have lung damage and the dry cough persists even now.

Her indoors got a much milder dose, but I had nearly every sympton you hear of, probably the worst being the waterfall of fluid out of the back of my nose which, if it flows to your lungs will give you the killer pneumonia. It was all I could do to keep swallowing it instead, because the sore throat that comes with this is like nothing you've ever experienced, and I went three days without sleep, too scared to lie down in case I forgot to swallow it. And that was with a fatigue unlike anything you've had, and a 400lb weight sitting on my chest so that I could only sip air. Don't believe that it's like the 'flu - it make you the sickest you've ever been, and that's from a bloke who survived pancreatic cancer. This is way worse, but you CAN survive it. Stay well, one and all.

Dr. Frobisher - are you implying that Zithromax was successful in eliminating SARS-CoV2 from your body?

I thought it was common knowledge that Antibiotics like Zithromax are completely ineffective in the treatment of diseases caused by Viruses.

Your experience of rapid improvement seems to indicate that you suffered from a respiratory illness of bacterial origin and not from Covid-19.

Last month, I went to Penang and applied for a Non O. I brought all the documentation that is listed on their website(Penang Royal Thai Consulate). Doors open 9am. Dropped it off at the clerk's window and picked up the new visa the next day at 2pm. No questions were asked. Easy in, easy out. Just make sure you have everything that is asked for. No proof needed of funds coming from abroad. Only your bank statement, stamped by the bank, showing you've had at least 800K for more than 2 months.

Did they ask for some sort of "proof", that you are retired?

If yes, what documents did you provide?

  12. One significant aspect influencing the exchange rate almost never finds a mention - speculation.

Considering the fact that total currency volume trade exceeds 5 Trillion Dollars per day, it goes without saying that the vast majority of those trades are not based on genuine international trade in goods and services.

It is estimated that at least 80% can be attributed to speculation.

The Baht specific trade volume is averaging 1.6 Billion $ per day or $584B per year, an amount which exceeds the entire GDP of Thailand.

Thailand's low inflation, favorable terms of trade, low public debt and "relative" political stability are partly responsible for the relentless rise of the baht.

The Governor of the Bank of Thailand has undoubtedly a difficult task to reign in the Baht particularly to discourage the speculators on the demand side which are largely responsible for driving the value over and above what could be attributed to favorable fundamentals. They base their decisions on future developments and like every other investor hate uncertainties.

The Governor's tools at his disposal are admittedly limited and discussed at nauseum in the media.

But IMHO he is at the very least naive and incompetent in one area - dealing with the public in press comferences and releasing statements. With statements like - quote "We cannot reduce the key interest rates any further because they are already at a historic low" and continuous talk for months on end of fearing to be placed on list of currency manipulators  as well as "that he is ready to implement further measures" without acting in any meaningful way (cry wolf syndrom?) he plays straight into the hands of speculators who are gleaming at the prospect of nothing happening and gives them additional certainty in their decision making process.

A poker player who signals to his opponents what card he holds, will never be successful at the game.

This Governor reminds me of such a player.
