Any one doing the OMAD diet ( One Meal a Day )
WaveHunter replied to MrScratch's topic in I'm Too Fat Forum
Trying to have an intelligent discussion on a science-based topic on this forum is pointless when people like you are only here to bait one into pointless arguments with complete nonsense that adds nothing useful to the thread. If you have something credible to say, fine, but I don't even understand what point you're trying to make. I mean, what does this even mean??? "... your experience is not a truth, and most likely you glamour it maube a tiny bit to, for an instance you know say you spread it out on many hours?..." Though I haven't a clue what point you are trying to make, it's more than obvious it is only intended to throw the discussion off-topic. Why people seem to get pleasure from disrupting serious discussion with such nonsense is beyond me! Your nitpicky comments about TRT and trying to somehow negatively connect that to eating one-meal-a-day is so uneducated, it's not even worthy of a reply. I mean, if you are going to discuss Testosterone and SRGB proteins, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! Your comments on this sound like you hastily read bits and pieces from a wiki that you haven't even taken the time to understand, so it sounds more like gibberish than anything that is truly science-based. Bottom line, if you intend to attack a point of view, at least research it enough so that you understand it. Otherwise you are just talking through your hat! -
Any one doing the OMAD diet ( One Meal a Day )
WaveHunter replied to MrScratch's topic in I'm Too Fat Forum
It is sustainable. I've been eating one meal a day for decades with no drawbacks to it whatsoever, and I happen to follow a very active lifestyle. Who says there has to be a rigid 60 minute window? That's nonsense. There is absolutely no scientific reason to have a rigid eating window at all. All that matters is that the body has time throughout the day to deplete glycogen levels so that fat metabolism can kick in. From a purely biochemical perspective, the whole idea about eating only once a day is that it allows the body to deplete glycogen levels enough throughout the day so that the body can efficiently shift over to burning fat as fuel. That's really all there is to it. Our bodies are meant to efficiently use BOTH stored fat and glycogen as a ready fuel source but if you are always in a fed-state, that does not happen because, like almost anything that is not exercised regularly, fat metabolism becomes compromised if glycogen levels always remain high. Your one meal of the day can be spread out over hours and you can eat until satiety is reached as long as the foods you eat do not promote false satiety signals (like highly processed foods will do). People should explore "one-meal-a-day " nutrition from a nutritional science (i.e.: biochemical) standpoint instead of through fad diet gurus that promote rigid protocols and dogma that really have no scientific basis. One-meal-a-day makes a lot of sense since that is the way the body was really meant to function best when you look purely at the biochemistry side of things. -
My reply was not for you but for people who don't mind the second or two it takes to do things the right way so that they get highly targeted search results. It DOES make a significant difference in filtering out search results that are not actually a part of the Lazada site, and there are tons of them since "lazada" is an often used keyword or tag.
-
LOL...many Lazada merchants are so sleazy, posting ridiculous prices just to see if they can land some sucker. ALmost every search will have hundreds of merchant listings for the exact same item and most of the listing having zero sales and zero feedback. I would not be surprised if some of those overpriced listings don't even have inventory in stock, and they just plan on dropshipping it if they land a sale! What I hate about Lazada is that they have few filters to sort the good merchants from the not-so-good merchants. The simplest and best filter would be like AliExpress uses, where you can sort search results by the number of sales, so the listings on Page one of the results shows the listing with the most number of sales. It stands to reason that the merchant with the most sales for a similar product is the one you will want to go with.
-
I also do that frequently. Lazada has one of the worst search engines of any online sales platforms I ever saw, even when you input the search in Thai! It's almost like it brings up everything EXCEPT what you are looking for LOL! The search results through Google are always more targeted than what you get on Lazada. BTW, I do the same when I want to search this forum since the search engine here leaves a lot to be desired. One of the most perfect search engines in the world is eBay. You almost always get search results that are EXACTLY what you are looking for and nothing else. I wonder why other platforms can't just learn from eBay and use the same coding. Even Amazon is pretty bad. So is YouTube, even though it is supposed to be the largest search engine in the world next to Google.

I had issues with language translation settings on Lazada and Chrome a few years ago and someone on this forum gave me a solution but now the issue has returned and I can't fix it! Help LOL!!! With the former solution in place (My OS and Chromes set to only show English translations, and clicking on the "English" button on Lazada) gave me almost all listings in English) I recall that the solution was NOT to list Thai in language preferences in my operating system or on Google Preferences otherwise they would accpet Thai as NOT requiring translation...but now that no longer seems to work! Now though, most listings are back to being entirely in Thai. Anyone have a fix for this???

VAT Tax question
WaveHunter replied to WaveHunter's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
So, what you are saying is that any advertised price on a big-ticket item like a computer will already have the VAT figured in to the listed price I see on Lazada (for instance) and I would not be charged 7% VAT in addition to the listed price? I can't ever recall seeing it added onto the list price upon purchase but never really thought about it before now. -
Just a real basic question. Is VAT assessed only on imported purchases in Thailand or does it apply to all purchases, including those made within Thailand? Are there ANY taxes that are payable for high-value purchases of consumer goods for personal use made within Thailand (similar to sales taxes that must be paid in the USA)?

A lot of you that are exploring popular weight loss diets with silly names like Mediterranean Diet, Keto Diet, OMAD, DASH Diet, Paleo Diet, Atkins Diet, MIND Diet, Dubrow Diet, etc... would do much better to just toss those type of diets in the trash bin and start thinking about how your body really works. These all are FAD DIETS popularized by YouTube gurus and others with a financial incentive in promoting them. As soon as one becomes dated, another is there to replace it. Such fad diets have been around for over one hundred years now, and if any of them truly worked, we would not be facing the obesity epidemic we face today. Diets like these are really just marketing and promotional hype and are no more effective than disproven calorie-restriction diets IF you don't really understand the underlying metabolic processes involved in becoming obese. Shedding excess body fat is not rocket science and does not require following some rigidly defined protocol to do so. Once you understand the underlying science of obesity, you will realize that the goal should NOT be to lose weight, but rather, to get your metabolic system back to working the way it was intended to work. Very simply, It means that you stop grazing on food all day long, consuming breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with all the snacks in between. The human body was NOT intended to be in a "fully fed state" constantly throughout the day! When glycogen stores are full, insulin is also high enough to prevent efficient access to stored body fat. The process of converting stored body fat (triglycerides) into simple fatty acids that the body can use as fuel is seriously hampered whenever insulin is high. This is just a basic biochemical fact that's been very well understood by scientist for a while now so it is not open to debate. IT IS A FACT! Yet, despite that knowledge, people still believe that obesity is simply the result to an over abundance of calories being consumed. It is NOT too many calories that causes obesity; it is the simple fact that stored glycogen is never allowed to be depleted enough throughout a day to allow the body to shift over to a fat metabolism, and that is caused by too much carbohydrate consumption. It is carbohydrates that are the root cause, simply because insulin responds more to carbohydrate consumption that it does to fats which cause a negligible response to insulin, or even proteins (which have some effect on insulin, but only when over-consumed to the point that they are converted to glycogen through "gluconeogenesis". This biochemical process is also very well understood by scientists and is therefore not open to debate. It is also a scientific FACT! So, always being in a fed state leads to continually high insulin levels throughout the day, which in turn leads to diminished ability of the body to use stored body fat as fuel, and that eventually causes obesity!. That's a pretty easy concept to wrap your head around, and it's all based on two very easy to understand biochemical realities! Making lifestyle adjustments that allow your body to become depleted of glycogen throughout the day is difficult for a period of time if you have been acclimated to grazing on food throughout the day for a long time, but the body quickly adjusts to the change in just a matter of days or perhaps weeks, and once it does, it becomes highly efficient at shifting from a carb-based metabolism to a fat-based one when glycogen levels become low. Once acclimated, it does this seamlessly without hunger pangs, lethargy, or any of the other things that people fear will happen if you are not constantly in a fed state. The net result of letting your body work the way it is supposed to...your body sheds those excess pounds of fat all on its' own, and remains that way NATURALLY...without the need for silly diet plans which never work in the long term, in the first place! Just think about it! -
I am interested to know what high-end, premium mouse pads are used by serious gamers, and others requiring precision mouse control like graphic design professionals, CAD/CAM designers, and those who work with intricate spreadsheet applications. I am talking about "premium" mouse pads that are typically priced from$50 USD up to over $100 USD. What are the best, and the worst you have tried, and why do you rate them as you do? For me, I have tried dozens and found none that really satisfy me in the long run. I prefer hard pads with exceptionally low static friction but reasonable dynamic (kinetic) friction for control and stopping power. Some of the best I have tried are the Artisan cloth series (from Japan), the glass Skypad, and the Ceramic CeraKote mouse pad. None of them are without some serious flaws, but they are the best I know of. MY TOP 3: ARTISAN: is nice but since it is cloth-based, consistency changes over time and they become unusable fairly quickly when they become dirty SKYPAD: is also nice but being made of glass it is thick and heavy, and prone to scratching, and also highly susceptible to collecting foreign debris on the surface which ruins glide characteristics and must be cleaned over and over during use. CERAKOTE: Better than Skypad but still with the same issues plus it is noisier. Also, being a coated pad, I suspect the coating will be subject to wear over time.. NOTE: I know a lot of people will want to chime in and say they don't use a mouse pad at all, or they just use a cheap one, but there are legitimate reasons that people use the high-end ones, so please don't hijack this thread with a lot of off-topics comments. Please just keep your replies to high-end mouse pads. Thanks

Any one doing the OMAD diet ( One Meal a Day )
WaveHunter replied to MrScratch's topic in I'm Too Fat Forum
That's pretty funny calling my way of eating extreme when you base all of your nutritional beliefs in a man known for advocating extreme diets that have NO science-based foundation to them AT ALL! I know very well who Dr. McDougall is. He makes an obscene amount of money from fad diet books, over-priced, resort style 10 day fat loss clinics, and as the owner of a very profitable food company that all of his books funnel gullible and misinformed people to! He is not in any way a legitimate researcher and has no ties to any sort of academic research. All of his so-called research consists of anecdotal observational studies, carefully cherry-picked to support his narrative. He has been widely criticized by the legitimate research community for making unsubstantiated health claims. When I was exploring veganism, I read one of his books called "The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss" and IMO it was an incredibly restrictive protocol that was completely out of touch with nutritional reality! In another of his books I read called "The McDougall Program: 12 Days to Dynamic Health", it contained no science-based information whatsoever and was nothing but anecdotal accounts and very dubious statements that were and are not supported in any way by science. Everything he advocates is merely a quick-fix solution, rather than advocating a serious approach to good health. Just look at all of the titles of his books, like "12 Days to Dynamic Health", or "Dr. McDougall's Digestive Tune-Up", or "The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss". Do those titles sound like the result of serous scientific research or are they the typical titles that self-serving health gurus use to sell millions of books? That's who you place your trust in but you refuse to explore legitimate science? That's what lazy people do when they want a quick magic fix based on wishful thinking and are unwilling to do the hard work of learning the real underlying science. I am well-versed in the underlying metabolic science related to nutrition on the biochemical level. I may not have advanced degrees in biochemistry but I love learning about science and have diligently studied it since my college days, and my nutritional protocols are based on actual science, not some guy trying to get rich from selling fad diet books. The way I approach nutrition is not in any way extreme. It is entirely based on biochemical science and It aligns perfectly with the way the body was intended to be fueled. That's all that good nutrition is really about...fueling the body in the most efficient way possible. Contrary to what you try to imply, I eat a fair amount of carbohydrates, along with fats and protein but my body is keto-adapted so it can readily switch from carbs to stored fat for fuel, the way the human body was intended to be. As a result, MY BODY decides what I should eat, not me, and not what some dopey health guru tells me to eat, when I should eat it, or how much I should eat. I have been an athlete all of my life, and now that I am in my 50's I am still competitive with people a lot younger than me, so I know first-hand that what I practice works, and BTW, it is all backed up with quarterly blood panels that never deviate from the norm. Since you obviously are very close-minded and not at all objective, preferring to place your trust in gurus like Dr. McDougall instead of actual science based information, I think we are done here. Good Luck to you. -
Not true at all! Of course there is a published tax rate. Have you never heard of HS codes? International trade could not exists without them. I just do not know which code pertains to 3.5" internal hard drives. To avoid all of thIs nonsense I guess I should have just posted: DOES ANYBODY KNOW THE HS CODE (Harmonized System classification) FOR 3.5 INCH INTERNAL HARD DRIVES, AND WHAT THE PUBLISHED TAX RATE IS FOR THAILAND? I have looked at the code table for Thailand and it is indecipherable to a lay person so I'm looking for someone who understands import/export HS codes.

Are there any gamers in the Pattaya area that are really familiar with high-end mouse pads used in professional gaming like the Japanese Artisan brand, the glass SkyPad, or the CeraPad? I am not a gamer at all, but I have been searching for the "holy grail" of mouse pads for use in photo retouching applications. I have bought dozens of different ones and NONE of them have satisfied my needs. So, I designed my own and it has worked out really well! I'm thinking of marketing it to gamers since that seems to be the most likely market for hi-end mouse pads these days. The problem is...I am not a gamer and have no idea how they will react to it. I want to find gamers who have worked with different high end mouses mouse pads that can give me feedback on the one I have designed. This post is not a sneaky attempt to sell you one! I only have the prototype that I have been using for the last year. I just need some experienced and unbiased gamers to try it out and tell me what they think. ALl I can say is that it is remarkably different from anything being sold today!
-
It always amuses me on this forum that it take at least a dozen replies that are more or less nonsense before you get a simple one-liner that has the answer. I only want to know what the official written tax rate is, not all the possible things that might happen to affect that rate. Do I expect to be treated fairly by Customs? No! I just want to know what the published rate is...that's all. Very simple question, really.
-
You're right but I just figured that somebody must know the official tax rate. Truth is, I just don't trust Customs to be fair at all. I have been burned by them numerous times, and each time it seemed fairly obvious to me there was some corruption involved. I mean, Customs officials are no different than policemen here in the Magic Kingdom who pull you over on a motorbike for something silly. It's just a way for them to add to their retirement account I suppose.

Thanks for the reply but it's not helpful at all. I am certain that there is a written official policy on what is and is not taxable and I just want to know what it is. I don't read Thai and most of that data is not available in English. As for cloud options, I already explored them and they are not viable from the source location or I would have taken that course of action. I know that many people assume cloud transfers will work for any size of datasets, but actually try to accomplish that when the data sets are in the terabytes sizes and you'll find it is not as easy as you might assume. If anybody has ACTUALLY succeeded in somehow transferring 4tB sized drives via a cloud service, I'm all ears ????. Send me a link to such a service.

It would be a lot better if you would quote science based sources that support your assumptions instead of just making baseless comments like "Thai people are slim because they eat rice". No offence intended but that's just nonsense. I see many Thai people who are not slim at all, and many (including children) that are obese. It is a fallacy to attribute slimness with eating rice. Most rice that is consumed in Thailand is nothing more than highly refined carbohydrates (i.e.: sugar). To say that people are slim because they eat primarily sugar is pure nonsense! ANd besides, "slimness" is not even a gauge of good health. Lean body mass more accurately defines "healthy", and that comes from getting enough protein, not carbohydrates. You are GROSSLY confusing me with OMAD fanatics who don't really understand metabolic science at all and just blindly follow the latest popular health gurus on YouTube. I eat whatever I "feel" like eating. By that, I mean I eat when, and whatever my body prompts me to eat....and nothing more. The human body is a remarkable machine and IF it has not been polluted with highly processed foods containing huge amounts of carbohydrates that alter the hormonal balance of metabolism, it will naturally prompt you to eat the foods it needs, not the food your brain tells you it wants. It will prompt you with natural satiety signals when you've had enough. However, when you artificially raise resting insulin levels through excessive carbs from the moment you awake to when you sleep, that mechanism no longer works. That's really all there is to the way I eat, and FYI sometimes those foods can be quite rich in carbohydrates...but it is my body that decides when to eat those kind of foods, not my brain. It is not at all a matter of being carb-phobic, it is simply a matter of being carb-aware. -

You are pretty much hitting the nail on the head in this one sentence. In spite of dramatic advances in the metabolic sciences over the last decade, powerful food companies that manufacture processed foods like General Foods, Frito-Lay, and all the rest spend millions of dollars on public relations, advertising, and political lobbying to hide the truth about their products, and their financially driven motives for producing the type of foods they promote as healthy and wholesome but in fact have resulted in obesity and metabolic diseases at what ar now epidemic levels in Western countries, and it now spreading worldwide. One only haas to look at Thailand with the proliferation of Western fast foods like KFC (a favorite among young Thai children), 7-11, and all the rest. Just look around at how many Thai children are now overweight, and it's obvious something is not right. The concept of a "balanced meal" is completely bogus and always has been. I've seen old ads frmthe 1960's for Wonder bread, and how it "Helps build strong bodies 12 ways" These were the claims: Builds muscle Bones and teeth Increases body cells Improves blood Creates better appetite Helps children grow bigger and stronger Increases brain cells Adds more red cells Provides vitamin B Potassium Helps build tissue Supplies more energy Just how does a food that contains nothing but carbohydrates build muscle, increase brain cells, or any of the other claims here. What a joke, and yet millions of Americans believed it, just like they fervently believed in the "food pyramid" for healthy nutrition, which was completely wrong! Nothing has really changed in the last 50 years in terms of the deceptive practices of the processed food companies. Profits are all that matter. The definition of a "balanced" meal should be defined by peer reviewed science, not by advertising hucksters, and others with vested interests like health gurus who are trying to sell their latest books and diet plans. -

You just keep missing my point my friend. Firstly, I am not carb-phobic, I am carb-aware. Dietary fats regardless of their origin have a negligible effect on insulin levels but carbohydrates have a massive effect on them. In the presence of hightended insulin, the body's ability to break down stored triglycerides into fatty acids that the body can use as fuel is seriously jeopardized. The net result is the accumulation of more and more stored body fat, and eventually obesity. As a result of that there is increased likelihood of metabolically-related diseases as one ages. In short, it is excessive carbs that are the culprit, not dietary fats. Just become knowledgeable of the actual biochemical science instead of talking off the top of your head.
