  1. Yes indeed, but in reverse, having recently flown into DMK from Cambodia, I took a connecting train from Don Mung Station through to Chiang Mai for just 231 baht!! I was amazed, but it was an ordinary train which eventually arrived 14 hours later!
  2. Yes indeed, as I witnessed during my 20 years living as a country bumpkin up north. Huge infrastructure projects brought economic successes and a better quality of life. Bangkok - go sink in the mire!!
  3. I now live in happy retirement in visa hassle free Siem Reap. There are no tall hotel/condo buildings - by law nothing must exceed 5 floors/storeys the maximum height of Angkor Wat. One looks up to Buddha, not down onto Buddha!
  4. IMO, just ban marijuana again and stop all this nonsense about what you can or cannot do!
  5. Has "Banksy" been visiting Thailand??
  6. Constructed by workers on marijuana???
  7. Beaten yet again!! First rice, then English language and now on the International Stage - 5555555!!
  8. Yes it does seem strange BUT across the border from Mai Sai, is the Burmese town Tachilek. Here there are many hotel/casino businesses with Thai involvement that are still open for Thai people only with border passes (not foreigners), offering short stay "package breaks" mainly for gambling. Need I say more. On occasions, I used to help man the Tourist Police Office at the border when a Volunteer and pre-pandemic regularly crossed into Burma for shopping (only!!).
  9. Thank you for your comments which I can vouch for living in retirement in Siem Reap. What is now very noticeable are the many foreign tourists again flocking to see Angkor Wat and its associated Archaeological Park, among many other tourist attractions. I do not know what Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville are like these day other than NO Chinese tourists, only resident Chinese ex-pats or those Chinese from a neighbouring country who can travel. As for prices, for example a 24 small bottle pack of Beer Chang in MAKRO currently on special offer: CHANG CLASSIC BEER BOTTLE 330ML*24 Code 330603 89,400 ៛ $22.90 -4% $21.80 (91 US cents per bottle - 32 baht)
  10. During my 20 years of retirement in Thailand, I regularly used this balm to relieve the irritation from many types of insect bites - mosquitoes, biting flies, spiders, red ants etc. I always carried a small container in my pocket (and still do here in Cambodia). The white Tiger Balm does not stain clothing like the yellow can do.
  11. Yes indeed, the quickest and most convenient but if you do not drive there is a "Green Bus" service from Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station (3) to Chiang Khan but this would mean an overnight stay in either Laos or Chiang Khan.
  12. Well I never - must keep the "freebies" continuing!!!!
  13. Like the three ladies in the photo????
  14. For reference:- "Looking for a cocktail that is extra “spooky”? Try this yummy Drunk Ghost! Sweet and bubbly, this cocktail is festive and delicious. It is made with Coconut rum, vanilla vodka, coconut cream, and lemon-lime soda, and is the perfect drink for Halloween! https://www.shakedrinkrepeat.com/drunk-ghost/
  15. Well I never! Cambodia beating Thailand again. First rice and now English language.
  16. With respect no, that is the west side. From the roundabout head back east into town along the upgraded Route 6 and cross the river. Continue on Route 6 for 5 kms or so towards Phnom Penh. It becomes an ordinary 2 way road and you will soon see MAKRO on the right hand side. Take care, it can be very busy at this location on the main road.
  17. Go for it - I did with no complications.
  18. Interesting, I had no complications after my third dose - in fact I recently received my fifth dose with no complications. Throughout the past 3 years I have never been tested for Covid-19 as I have not experienced any symptoms other than a mild cold.
  19. East of Siem Reap City on National Route 6 heading to Phnom Penh.
  20. Here in Siem Reap, my local hypermarket only sells Cambodian rice (as expected) - no Thai rice. However, our MAKRO sells both Cambodian and Thai rice. I only purchase Cambodian rice to support our Khmer farmers. The Thai protectionists can get stuf.............!!
  21. Perhaps to fund the ethnic minority militias that are fighting for freedom against the current Burmese Junta's genocidal terrorist Tamadaw??
