  1. Interesting thought! https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/thai-army-invites-in-kids-for-gun-play
  2. With respect, I beg to differ. Just a few days ago: "President Vladimir Putin on Monday (26 September) granted Russian citizenship to former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden" https://www.euractiv.com/section/global-europe/news/putin-grants-edward-snowden-russian-citizenship/ Maybe he will be called up to fight in Ukraine????
  3. For reference: ZTE Corporation is a Chinese partially state-owned technology company that specializes in telecommunication ........ ............ The company has faced criticism in the United States, India, and Sweden over ties to the Chinese government that could enable surveillance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZTE
  4. And very much so! All the comments from us ex-pats, whether in favor of, or disliking are irrelevant. For me, having lived up north for twenty years as a country bumpkin, my support is for:-
  5. Yes indeed, and many Thai "hi-so's" became very poor. https://www.123rf.com/photo_50486462_old-buildings-in-center-of-bangkok-thailand-result-from-asian-financial-crisis-in-1997.html
  6. The good days when we ex-pat country bumpkins up north got 89 baht for 1 GBP!
  7. Are tickets on sale yet???????????
  8. monitored across the country by the new drones????
  9. So, Senior General Maha Thray Sithu Min Aung Hlaing "up yours" - the one that got away!!
  10. Your choice, but certainly not mine - a dreadful noisy and polluted city IMO! I was always happy to get on a plane, train or bus and travel back up north to join my fellow country bumpkins (my choice)
  11. Yes indeed, but only for foreigners. Cambodian people are not allowed to gamble in such casinos. Very popular with the Thais, Vietnamese, resident/visiting Chinese, Japanese, Koreans etc. etc. especially now that the country is fully open after the pandemic. In Cambodia, gambling is allowed only for foreigners, and at licensed casinos.Sep 13, 2022 (Wikipedia)
  12. Yes indeed. If you now click "like" on social media posts from so called terrorist organizations, you face 10 years in prison!! Myanmar's ruling junta on Tuesday (Sep 20) warned the public against showing moral support for a "terrorist" resistance movement, threatening jail terms of up to 10 years just for liking or sharing its content on social media https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/myanmar-military-junta-jail-likes-shares-opponents-social-media-2951276 IMO the only genocidal terrorist organization in Burma is the Junta's Tatmadaw (Burmese military)!!!
  13. There is currently a massive nationwide campaign to identify and close down illegal gambling in Cambodia whether on-line or in actual premises (bars, restaurants and illegal casinos). Many of the so-called croupiers are being released from forced labor/captivity and being repatriated to their own countries. For reference 19 September 2022: "Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered a crackdown on illegal gambling and related crime" https://construction-property.com/pm-orders-crackdown-on-illegal-gambling-related-crimes-pushing-authorities-to-take-prompt-actions/
  14. Always reactive rather than pro-active!!
  15. For reference - the latest published in International media (22 September 2022) "Thailand’s acting prime minister, who earlier this week called for measures to halt the baht’s slide, said the government won’t meddle with the central bank and how it handles the currency. The Finance Minister told to “only talk” to the Bank of Thailand about the baht’s recent slump. That’s a walk back from remarks on Tuesday when he said he wants the baht back at 35 to a dollar. " https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/thailand-swears-central-bank-autonomy-as-baht-extends-slump-1.1822092 Loss of face for Prawit???????
  16. Oh really!!! How about the surveillance of political rallies for the up-coming General Election???
  17. Did he have a crypt to creep into??
  18. Yes, both the Government and "local" lotteries. When I lived in Thailand, I was a regular punter on both lotteries and I won more on the local village lottery than on the Government one. All my winnings on the Government lottery were paid out by my local gold shop with a commission of 20 baht on 2,000 baht wins. The agent who processed my local "mafia" lottery (numbers based on the relevant Government ones) used to bring my winnings in cash to my house, in one instance 30,000 baht in 100, 50 and 20 baht notes in a plastic bag!)
  19. Flooding such farmland in Central Thailand could cause undue hardship and distress to many people and villages, just so the elite in Bangkok do not get their feet wet!!
  20. No mention of pipework spoiling the "beautiful scenery" like kites do!!!
  21. Typical Thai selfish attitude, similar to parking in disabled bays at supermarkets! In this instance I would personally spray all the offending vehicles with blue paint!
